is all of the above an option? actually get some cosmetics done on the 69. I want all the paint on the rear of the car to match .... FINALLY. I need to clean out some debris in the carb to solve my random idle issue. Then, start tearing apart the 70 as it begins the Pure Stock transformation. Car is tenatively slated to go into the body shop in the spring. 2008 at the earliest is the timeframe on this one being done I think.

Never Going to Get It All Done

I should be finished with the new barn soon. Siding is going on this week and then just the interior to finish. When it is done I promised a couple fellow Pontiac racers I would take on their to do list. I will sort out the SC/360 and dyno it as I think Larry plans to race it next fall. It was far from prime time this year.

For myself I need to give Dan a hand sooner or later (more like never) on the T/A and dyno the RA IV as Scott laid paint on it already. Tomorrow Dan and I are dynoing the Boss 302. That car is just about finished being painted, with a little luck it will be the Martin racer for me.

If those get done I have a few AMC projects (SC/Rambler painted and slowly going together and we have Rich's barn find AMX apart) to finish with Rich. And a new one that showed up on Saturday (which will be a PS racer one day).

This is the opposite direction of Dave and Casey. I have now left myself open to dissapointment and torment from fellow racers laughing at how much I did not accomplish this winter. Starting with Stroker Boy beating on me about the Boss.

It'll be nice seeing a Boss 302 built with the Weymouth attention to detail. :3gears:

There was one at the small block shootout years ago, it couldn't fall out of a tree.

I mean, it's potential had not yet been realized! :TU:

Some sort of neat Mustang just west of Brighton

I've been watching this white 71-73 Mustang fastback with black stripes out behind a dumpy looking place just off I-96, west of Chilson Rd. You can see it clearly now that the plastic tarp has kinda blown off it to one side. I know nothing about it, can't really safely stop and take a pic there, so don't know any more about it. You can only see it from the Eway going East.

If anybody around here is into these things, you may want to investigate. BTW, it looks really nice. Been there for a while, just noticed the tarp slid off it to one side.

    Boss 302

    Brian,
Perhaps a mild rear end ratio will help it out of the tree. Something on the order of 5.13's or so. :Brow:

Wonder what is the steepest gear anyone has ever run at Pure Stock? I must be right up there with the 4.56 in the Ramrod, can't recall if Casey had the 4.33 or the 4.66 in the F85. In both of our cars, the more gear we threw at them, the faster they went. I started at 3.91 then 4.10, then the 4.56.

    Casey ran a 4.33 and a 4.66

    biggest gear in 2006 was a 4.56 (12 cars)
biggest gear in 2005 was a 4.86 (Brian Stefina)
biggest gear in 2004 was a 5.13 (Jim Lerum)
    diggest gear in 2003 was a 4.56 (7 cars)

tuttle ran 4.30's in his cyclone and Chris jones ran 4.30's in his yellow cobra. i had a 4.30 locker which would have been perfect for my 72 351cj 4speed. the 4.10's made a huge diff over the 3.50's but i still had a little more to give rom wise and the 4.30's were gonna be perfect! really wish i had been able to hang onto it and make at least one pass with the 4.30's.

    That's a mistake. I believe that he had a 3.73 that year.

The neat thing about the 5.13 is I could launch in 4th gear. LOL..............

It was a 3.73!!!!!!! I think Brian Stefina is running a 4.88 in the Merc.

    Yep 4.86's

I was suprised to find after the install some Ford literature that said for best 1/4 mile performance 4.56 or 4.86 would be best with a 427.

Frank.....5.13 is what I said back then. The guy had a 3.50! :Dou:

    5.13's

That's about what the early Z's (302's, or as we called them 301's!) and Bosses had to run to turn in respectable ET's. The 3.50 was probably the original Ford gear, although I think (?) you could have ordered 4.10s or 3.89's in the Boss. I really thought your 58 had too much gear at Stanton. so much for that theorey. I was worried that a 4.10 in mine was too much, thought the car would like a 3.90 better. I'm going to try a set of 4.56's i borrowed for next year! shows you what I know. :Dou:
Do know I had an aquaintance who ran a 288 SBC in a Camaro with TWO 1050's and 5.67's. I thought that wouldn't work either. It went 9's in the 80's. I still don't understand that.

Nothing to understand there, RPMs is all that a 283 has gonig for it! LOL!! Those little boogers are tough...small bore+short stroke=screamin' Revs! I had one in a '63 truck in high school...the thing was an oil burner, and I had another small block ready to drop in, so I decided to put the 283 out of it's mysery...no such luck...I couldn't blow the thing up, even though I tried! It would just level off (camshaft?) at what sounded like a gajillion RPMs...stupid me, I shoulda kept the 283 instead of the garbage 305 I put in it's place... :Dou:

Gear 'em till they can't take anymore! :TU:

I thought it would be fun to run a 289 HiPo stick with a 5.13 or better!

Those things have a 2.87" stoke.

I will try 4.86's in the Boss 302. After dynoing that seems to be the appropriate choice. It has lots of revs it appears. Maybe not as many as the bigger cam'd DZ 302 though.
