Yeah, but I bet he hasn't been UNDER as many covers as she has! Then again, he does smile a lot........

Congrats to all who made it into the mag. My Hot Rod subscription finally ran out. I think I stopped paying about 5 years ago, but all the other mags Primedia bought and shut down kept extending my subscriptions.

Guess I'll have to buy one at the newstand. Wonder if they're stil twice the size of the subscription copies.

Twice the size of the subscription copies? More ads, more pics, more what?
I still have a subscription, but news arrives several days later out here in the sticks.

Old topic, Steve. The newstand copies have a lot more articles in them than the subscription copies. Think the ads are about the same. Somebody did a side by side 4 or 5 years ago on this.

We noticed it when coverage of one of our events was in the newstand copies, but not the subscription ersion. So when they say 60% off newstand price, what is it really? 10%? Does save on gas and time to go buy them, though.

Primedia doesn't miss a trick. Not sure Amos or the others play this game, though.

I gave Diego a coupla boxes of my really old stuff back when he lived here in Michigan. Many old, old Hotrod magazines. Too bad my parents pitched most of it, along with my model car collection and parts and all my flathead speed goodies from high school days. I had mags back to the mid 50's.

Only parts that made it was a 39 Ford tranny and a 50 Olds stick shift flywheel that I buried in my Mom's garden before I left for college in 1962. Both were from my high school car, a 41 Ford convertible.

    Hot Rod on Martin

I really do wish they'd taken the time to look at some of the other iron running at Martin. There were a lot of neat cars there beside the ones chosen. I suppose we should be grateful for any coverage, but there were a number of cars there worthy of a feature. Brians 427 Merc, certainly several of the Buicks, Dave's Olds etc.etc. Quess the 10 and 11 second cars are the ones that get the headlines. Not that they haven't earned it but it would be nice to see some of the more unusual stuff get mentioned, even if they're small blocks.

Pro Street, Real Street or Pro Touring?

That's why the Stanton race remains Pure Stock only and doesn't include F.A.S.T.

I like the Martin race and will continue to support it. Fun time, but is is a F.A.S.T. race and the F.A.S.T. cars get the attention.

I dropped my Hot Rod subscription when several years ago they described my '64 as being a nice car but "never really in the running"

Despite being the only FoMoCo product there, being paired with a F.A.S.T. class entry and beating him!

Another mag slap during a mixed race was when Jimmy's Vette was described as "only being able to muster" a 11.80 or so.

Even though he was in Pure Stock and not F.A.S.T. :Do No:

Not even worth getting worked up over......Hell, I was amazed that that many Pure Stockers were mentioned. I have come to grips that we are a very welcome field filler at Martin. The event is for the FAST guys, run by the FAST guys, and we are there to have fun. The organizers work very hard to grow FAST, they arrange for the sponsors and the media coverage, so it goes to reason that the coverage is of the FAST class.

I am just glad to have a second event where I can see old friends and run my car. I do get excited over being in a magazine from time to time, but it's not why I race.

The excitement would wane if you were "never really in the running" or "could only muster".

I will be buying this issue, hopefully Hot Rod has gotten beyond slamming the P/S cars and only ignores them. :TU:

Definitely not worth being worked up for sure. We are filler as far as Hot Rod is concerned and I'm good with it.

    Oh Yea.....Donny for Prime Minister!

I only go for Mag coverage

Somehow I get the impression I've said something wrong.

As I said earlier: "I like the Martin race and will continue to support it. Fun time, but is is a F.A.S.T. race and the F.A.S.T. cars get the attention."

Of course having participated in every F.A.S.T race at Martin as well as the one held at Morocco what would I know?

Oh yea.....I pointed out to Frank that not only do the F.A.S.T. cars get the attention at their own race....which I would think they should....but Hot Rod as also gone as far as slamming participants in another class!

So the Moral there is in P/S don't expect much from Hot Rod and you won't be dissapointed.

    Dare to be Different!
