They even said the intake can be a boat anchor... They are representing us real bad. Id rather no Buick coverage.

I forget what year the Riv was that they got it out of, it was a 74-76 though. Doesn't that mean they are awful heads to start with?

Yeah, the 455 came out of a real smogger of an car. They said a few times, while rebuilding the trans that they intended to chirp the tires going into 2nd... but still. I think they mentioned that new heads and other goodies may be in store, but they're dragging it out too much.

I caught the boat anchor comment too!

My family walked in from shopping as they put on the iron intake. I was talking to the TV I think I said something like "I can not believe this". My wife responded by rolling her eyes at me.

Did the host say possible aluminum heads in the future? So there may be hope.
    $10,000 to play with
    -1,500 for car
    - rebuild cost

I don't mind if they build a turd. All the chevy, mopar and ford guys who watch the show will continue to think of Buicks as old ladies cars that cant make any power. I like being the underdog. the look on their faces when you blow their doors off is priceless.

Just watched the show and I'll admit I heard several references to building the 455 in the future. We can only keep our fingers crossed!

Yea, i have to agree, watching there show of the 455 build kinda irritated me. First thought was why Horsepower wasn''t doing the engine build and second why they were being so cheap with the rebuild parts ? Figured if it was a 454 or LS1, it be more up to date parts and all. Actually found myself disappointed in some of the comments and lack of effort of the 455 build up.

Yeah, semed to be just a basic rebuild. didn't even add some performance to it. which would't have cost that much more. Let's hope they give it to High performance for the performance build.

Kind of disgusting. Who did they call any research on a 73. I will let em do the bodywork and put a 5 speed in my POS original 4 speed. I got all the parts they need and it has a good scottie motor and is mech perfect. great for their budget. I keep her and drive her on PowerTour tho! Man still don't understand where their heads are at? Hmm, Prolly to late and the car must be done! Whatcha think guys, I am thinking 15's in the 1/4 if they are lucky!

I think that all the comments like "Boat anchor" is all to give the impression that it will not be a very impressive motor. Did anyone notice the high compression piston's? I think that they will have a ho hum attitude through the whole build and then on the test drive that high compression low budget build 455 will turn some heads and shred some tires. Then the comment for future heads means that horsepower tv will get to put some real torque on the dyno. Just my opinion but I think they have chosen to act like they are building a nothing engine and then light it up and then say this is our starting point and act like it is "basically stock" yeah right. But we all no that those pistons will make a "basically stock" engine hit over 400hp and over 500ft/lb sleeper. And if they add heads and and an intake to the mix then we will get some serious respect for our beloved 455 Buick's.

I think that they will be at least in the low 13's if they run it down the strip. I will bet that they will only do a smoke show in the parking lot and then tell is what it dynoed "Basically stock". I have seen similar builds hit mid to low 12's.:Do No:

the block doesnt look like it was zero decked. i doubt compression will be any higher than 9.0-9.5 and stock rod bolts dont look good either. i'm betting it will see edelbrock heads and intake before it's done but i would be suprised if they get 450 hp out of it the way they are going.

I am still willing to give these guys a chance. You have to remember back to when they were selecting a car this was going to be a budget build. If you follow these shows they do a lot of "budget friendly" refreshes and then come back to it later to throw some juice at it. If they had advertised this as a high perfomance big money build I would quit watching but they have stuck to their plan from the first step. Let's hope they will finish strong here.

Trust me, the way the Horsepower guys boned up the Olds 455 build ... there is nothing to be gained by having them do the Buick build. All of us Olds guys felt just as mis-represented by those guys ...

I noticed the Chev bolt pattern on the TH350 trans too. I hope they mention that a BOP trans is necessary. Hopefully they were just using that trans for demenstration puposes. Altered Ego is a Comet, a 63, I think.

I taped the latest Muscle Car. The engine they pulled out of the Buick is a Small Block Chevy. That's why the transmission is a Chevy bolt pattern TH-350.

WOW.... and or double WOW.... A few of you guy's dont seem to have much faith in Rick or myself....lol ... No,really guys, this project is a BUDGET build 100%, so we couldn"t throw the best of everything all at it at once. we have some pretty serious plans for the buick, but we've got to establish a solid foundation first. Seriously when you figure in car, paint, engine, trans, suspension, wheel and tires, and interior all for 10 grand it kinda hard to do, but it's accomplishable. We wanted to show people at home that building something crazy cool doesn't require a boat load of cash. Heck, even encourage them just to get out into the shop or driveway and build something. Trust me guys and gals we are going to do much more to the Buick down the road. You just got to give us some time.

We plan to make everyone proud to own a chevy, nah just kiddin' the BIG BAD BUICKS!!!
    But thanks

    Thanks for watchin' tommy
