Well we started to dissasemble the GS today. If my buddy would've brought his crane we coulod have had it off today. We put in 5 hours and it's all ready to come off the frame. Every single bolt came right out!! Something us eastcoasters aren't used to. You guys out west have it made. I'll check back later.
Engine and trans are all unbolted and all body bolts out too. p Oh that guy is a real good buddy of mine. Very smart dude when it comes to cars. All cars.
Looks like fun. Brings back memories for me. I just got my '64 back from paint today. Now the long reassembly process begins. It's been 2 years now since the day I began stripping it down.
You sonnavabitc.... Ha ha ha. I think reassembly is the most fun part. This is all the dirty work, although it's not real dirty. Mister T V,very clean car from the west. They have it so lucky!!!!! East coast cars almost always need all new sheet metal underneath as well as the exterior metal.
Joe she looks to have the same patina that I have on mine I'll get to that one of these days/years. I noticed that the air cleaner snorkel goes off to the left side even though she is not an AC car. Seems I have the only one that goes to the right side, just one of those :boring: things we love to notice. Look forward to seeing her next Spring at the Yardley thing :TU:
Outside in the driveway? Dont you NJ guys have winter?Thats a heck of a project,i wish i had the nerve to do it.20 years ago maybep Good luck & have fun Joe:TU:
Oh my god do we have winters over here. My neighbor is going to let me put my 65 lark in his garage for the winter so i'll have an open spot plus i'll have to put up a tent to use as a painting area. Doug I hope I have it done in time but I have a bad feeling i'll run out of cash at some point but i'm gonna do whatever I have to do.:Brow: Harle I only hope my car comes out half as nice as yours.:TU:
Sean, Post a couple of pics of Pat's 65 4 speed convert so Joe can see your work. Joe, I'd be glad to help you if you need anything. Pencil out a plan for each part or system on the car. Then figure the cost & timing. I've got numerous binders of info that could help. Mark
Joe, My wife still doesn't know what I've spent on mine. 'Course, when you spread it over the time I've taken on it... It definitely takes an understanding spouse. The only time I had to have a budget discussion with her was when I needed to paint it. Mark
Looks great, been trere and done that a few times . Tag and bag every thing, I mean EVERYTHING! It makes reassembly so much easier. You never know what will come up as time goes on. Right Mark? It's not impossible that a planed 1-2 year rebuild can turn out to take many more. Good luck, Loren
Loren, I think I'm the poster child for that comment. But you are right, the time spent organizing at tear down will save much more down the road. And take PHOTOS! When I tore mine apart, there were no digital cameras, so things are easier in that respect now. The "Egle" landed for a few hours here yesterday. More info coming your way... Mark
That is a long way into the future for me, and I fear it too! Of course, between now and then is engine rebuild, transmission rebuild (200-4r changeover), interior color change (black to white - we agree on that one!), etc. Oh thank heaven for digital camera's! And, if I get my act together, I will start a database catalog in an Excel spreadsheet of the tagged bags to "easily" find parts as needed. I put a reference number on each bag (SB0001, SB0002... SB(sandwich)="small bag" vs LB (gallon)="large bag"). Keep the pictures coming Joe!
