Alan, I am interested in the fiberglass bumper, but I am not going to be going to the BPG nationals. I have a 15x8 original style rally rim 4" backspacing with 26x11.5" M/T ET Streets. I am going to get some 30x10.5 inch slicks pretty soon, and I am hoping that it will not rub the frame.
I don't think you'll have an issue with the width of the slicks (I have 10 inchers on mine), but the height may be an issue? o No:
With the MT biasply slicks28\10.5\15 tire and/or the M&H 275/60/15 cheater slick. I have about less then half an inch clearance to the fenderlip. I still haven't rolled or cut this lip off and still have the stainless moulding/trim on it to. I drove 3 miles around town once (don't ask me whyou: ) with the MT slicks and they only rubbed when taking a corner. Robert Here a picture of these tires.
Tyler, I'll post some pics of the bumper when i get to work. And thanks for the wheel and tire info, all.
I'd stay with the 30" tire. You can roll the lips, slightly stretch the quarters outward with a bottle jack and some patience (don't get carried away!) and add a lot of room. The tire diameter shouldn't be a problem, but if it is, it will likely be on the inside of the wheelwells. Some judicious use of small slits, and sledgehammer shaping should clear tight spots without screwing up the car. When doing any body tweaks like that, work around the area back and forth, stretching, fitting, bashing, a little at a time, and you can get metal to stretch quite a bit without looking like anything was done. I added about 1" of side clearance by stretching the quarters, and rolling the inner lips before I ended up tubbing the car. 12 1/2" ET streets fit no problem.
Yep, I was able to fit 28x12.5 inch M/T on the red car before with just a little bit of massaging. I am really not worried about a 30x10.5" slick.
The car should be running tonight, the -10 line should be here within the hour! I am going to get my dad to take a video of it. :TU:
Tyler, I have a few questions about the DZUS brackets and fittings you used on the fender for the hood. Are they supported from behind with anything? Or just riveted? How difficult were they to do?? Got an idea on size to get?Where did you buy yours? I will be able to retain my front support with hood latch and would rather have the DZUS's than the 4 pins I currently have now even though they are aluminum..
Pat, they were relatively easy to do. I measured the length of the fenders, then evenly spaced out 3 of the dzus fasteners (then the last 2 just went where they needed to go :TU: ) . Then we just drilled holes, and riveted the brackets to the fenders. Then you have to measure how far onto the hood the bracket is, then drill a hole for the 1/4 turn fastener. One thing that you have to do is make sure that you measure everything, and make sure you are ready to drill the hole in the hood before you do it! I can take some more pictures of what we did if that will help you out. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-71552/ http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-71530/ http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-71495/
Thanks Tyler, Now that has been put on the to-do list later this summer.May even decide to add the glass rear deck lid and spoiler with some of those...I am just a bit nervous as to how well they will hold up at speed just by being installed in the fender and hood...
