Thanks Guys!!! Tim, I did have her try to weld some aluminum before we were married. She did remarkably well for the first attempt! Too bad she didn't enjoy it enough to weld up product for me! lol Steve
A little progress this week. Wet sanded the entire vehicle and buffed it out. Not show car quality, but not too bad for a race car. Now I can start to re assemble. I hope to keep the progress rolling! Steve
Looks cool! Cant wait to see it in person. There was a guy around here a few years back that could chrome fiberglass and plastic, that would be a cool touch.
I spoke to a friend of mine that is a paint/body supply rep, and he told me that after following the progress of this paint process, he researched the "chrome paint" thing this last year at SEMA, and he came to the conclusion that most of it fails after about a year. They can't seem to get the clear to "stick" properly to the silver coating. I don't want to spend the time/money on them only to have to repaint them every other year. I think it would look great too to have chrome bumpers, but I can always do that later if they perfect the process. Anyone have personal experience with these? If so, how long has it been since they were painted? I'd be interested in the true results. Steve
Just a few more pics. It's starting to look like a car again!! Lots of finish work needed. After that will be finishing the brakes and then the 523 gets dropped in! Noise by August? o No: Thanks,
Steve, It looks as good as the prep work.......I'm sure your would look perfect. I sent mine to SNS chrome in Oklahoma I believe,That was about 5 years ago and it still looks good. Can't tell it's f/glass.....
Thanks guys, Todd, I am hoping for under 3000lbs, but we'll see! Gary, glad to hear that your chrome job is holding up! Perhaps I'll send them to this guy in the future, but for now they'll stay white. Thanks!! Steve
Steve I'm not sure how I have missed this thread. Your car is nothing less then stunning! You should be building drag cars for a living.
Dave, I'll post a few new pics in the next couple of days. I'm about ready to fire it up and take it for it's maiden voyage up and down my driveway! If all is ok there, I'll haul it to my local track in a few weeks and make a few shakedown passes. If all is ok there, then it's off to BG in October! At least that's the plan. If not, I'll bring the blue car again. Steve PS I'll ship out the springs first thing Wednesday morning!! THANKS!
OK, here are a few pictures of me making progress. I've run into many small issues that I need to address, although these pictures are of the car going up and down my driveway under it's own power! I need to address problems like, Bad leaking fuel pump, (Sent back to BG for rebuild) Low vacuum Atl. not charging Leaking fuel bowl on carb BAD brakes! Need to re-bleed and try to establish a solid pedal New slicks Front tires going flat in a few days time ETC, ETC!! Other than these issues, (I'm SURE more will pop up!!), the car ran great and seemed to have TONS of power, even though I only took it up to about 4 grand. I'm going to keep pounding away on it in hopes to have it ready for BG! Even the new wife told me to spend more time and focus on the car to have it ready for BG! (Great wife!!) I'll be giving it my best! Progress reports as they happen. Steve
