That's the misperception. "Pure" gives the impression that the cars are like they came from the factory. The P/S event gave up on that a very long time ago... in a galaxy far, far away. The cars have to meet certain standards to compete... that's all. It was all much easier ("purer" that is) when no deviations were permitted. But alas, the stone tablets containing the original P/S commandments have been lost to history... sigh.

I read the RULES posted and noticed that there is some allowance for certain modifications. They do seem minor but I imagine certain makes and models respond better to the minor changes allowed in the current rules.

I could never imagine a truly "stock" muscle car from the era turning these times. Seems MUCH more like a FAST event where things are becoming more "STOCK APPEARING" than "Pure Stock."

Just my opinion and you all know what that's worth...

I hope I didn't give the wrong impression. There are some great drivers and tuners at these events, and not everyone has maximized their car's potential according to the rules. I would say that set-up, fine tuning, and flat out awesome driving skill account for more of the better performance you're seeing than any of the rule variances are responsible for. My simple point is: P/S should have no factory rule variances at all!

I fully respect and admire exceptional talent from tuners and drivers. I fully expect that there have always been amazing talent in drivers and tuners even when these cars were brand new. But it does seem like it is only now in 2009 that these cars are able to fully realize their tuning and driving potential?

I do give full credit to the tuners and drivers but still think it hard to imagine a "pure" stock muscle car with factory trim and stock tires running these times, yet they do it as represented by these new sub-11.5 time slips.

Kudos to their performance tuning and driving talents...

So, how quick can a "pure" stock BBB be tuned and driven?

The quickest I can think of is 13.38 @ 105 mph in 1970. Motor Trend to be exact. And I believe that was " Pure Stock " right off the showroom floor. John B. :)

Um, Guys...... before we get too wrapped around the axle in this area, we have plowed this ground many, many, many, many, many times before. Donny, as moderator told us the fine Buick people hosting this site weren't really happy with the direction the post was going at that time. As moderator I believe he declared a cease fire........... no, um :idea2: , it was a "spring break", ya that's it, a spring break on the subject. For what it's worth may I suggest this discussion be carried on, on the F.A.S.T., Factory Stock-Pure Stock web site instead. :Do No:

And thank you again to the V8 Buick folks for letting us use this space. :TU:

Well, JJ pass cert in 2004, and Terry whipped out his camshaft and tore his engine down in front of God and everyone, and challenged other top cars to do the same..... trailer doors and brakelights were the response.

Tom, feel free to discuss this, that thread was closed because it was getting personal........

not sure where you are going Joel.....

JJ certified, and never made a pass because of a bad bearing.. 2 weeks before he was running 11.80s or so, and 2 weeks after he was running 11.70s.....

Julie ran 11.52 and then Terry tore the engine down, the cc'd the heads, checked for funny stuff, and he handed over the GM camshaft to Scott to cam doctor. Hell, both cars run metal lifters.......

4 L88 Corvettes have gone into the 11s in Pure Stock trim, 3 of them deep, and I know Wayne's car would be there too if Bill had not chloroformed it.

This thread seems to be getting a little personel. I'm thinking it maybe was inappropriate of me to make the comment above. I had no idea that this was a sore issue for a number of people here. It was never my intention to stir people up and cause any hard feelings. This is obviously a can of worms that's been opened up. With this I just want to apologize if I offended anyone and brought up some old hard feelings. We're all on the same team. The Buick team. My sincere apologys, John Biggs. :(

The Buick team? Not too many of them here, we're all the outcasts and aliens that Jim was nice enough to give us or own soapbox, toybox, whatever....

You're right.....there is a lot of contraversy on this....and about everything else in the country now...it seems......
