YES is it! I said it before I'll say it again. I can bring a cherry picker a couple of engines stands, rip the engine and trans out of Julies vette take them all apart, pull the crank weigh the crank check the ring stack on all the pistons look at everything inside the engine and trans, take interior out, put the vette on the lift so everyone can see no drag shocks drag springs.
I have nothing to hide all I want is to do the same to the fastest of all the other brands you guy's want to. Oh by the way my favorite class in school besides PE was show and tell.

Having copied and re read that thread, I was unclear how it was getting personal.

Donny, perhaps you can give an example from that thread so I, or we, can be more familiar with what exceeded the "code of conduct" to avoid it in the future. :TU:

Defination of pure as related to "Pure Stock": "Pure" the amount of Pure Money it takes to modify or change a factory original muscle car to go faster than it ever would have out of the box from the factory.
The defination of "Stock" as it pertains to the term "Pure Stock" Again the amount of energy, time, resources, and a good machinest and an endless supply of aftermarket modified parts it takes to modify or change an original muscle car to run et's quicker than they ever would have ran out of the box.
Pretty much the definitons of these two words are the same when it comes to people who wish to create muscle cars that are not representative of a factory original muscle car or in language that no one seems to understand "PURE STOCK"

Just a guess on my part after watching the Pure Stock Drags over the past 5 - 10 or so years.

I think if you have not, you should build a car with today's machining tolerances, as well as better quality parts, and then run it on bias ply tires molded with modern rubber compounds, these are all just benefits of modern technology, no real magic to it.:Smarty:

I think you might be surprised at how well a "stock" rebuilt engine can run:bglasses:

Do the cars run better than they did when new? Sure. But the majority of the cars that show up for these races have been lovingly restored and hand assembled with quality parts and attention to the details, of course they're going to out perform an all original car or magazine test car that was assembly line, mass produced with 60's-70's parts.:bglasses:

I couldn;t agree more Tom.well said.I have spoke to a few gentleman that were racer and machinist back in 68/69 stock eliminator being days;they were not suprised that a few of the L-88 vette were runing 11;50's or that alot of the other musclecars were running 12 and low 13's in the quarter..Chris Teed

Right on Tom and Chris. I had a good running 67 Chevy 327 Caprice pure stocker in 1974, but I picked up 3/4 second with a just a good machine job / balance job, without anything more than a .060 overbore (stock GM 327 flat top pistons), a mininum deck and a good head cc job. It's amazing how fast a car can go without any aftermarket engine parts. I used to get a laugh how people were let down when they looked under the hood to find a q-jet and an iron intake and a completely orange engine. Doesn't matter that I had just smoked their 427 Corvette for the first 1200 feet of the quarter mile. One more thing, chassis set-up is everything. You aren't likely to win if you smoke tire for a couple of hundred feet. It may be impressive, but it doesn't win races. :Smarty:

    Just as an afterthought.....

while power steering might be nice when you are trying to get your car into a tight parking place, and a radio/stereo is nice when cruising through the drive-in, a dedicated pure stock racer doesn't need any of that, not if they want to be at the front of the pack. I was discussing this on another board with a guy that was wondering why his 434" small block 67 Camaro wouldn't go any quicker than 11.90's. My answer, the car weighed 3520 pounds empty!! Since a 67 small block Camaro should weigh about 2960 pounds without driver, that car is 560 pounds overweight, and that equates to about a half a second in quarter mile e.t.'s. So next time you are wondering why some of these cars run the times they run, don't only look at what they have, look at what they have given up in creature comforts so they can go that fast too. :Comp:

Please tell me where I can find this endless supply of legal aftermarket modified parts for a Ford Y block, or Brian's MEL, or anything else for that matter.
Instead of criticizing something you cannot, or will not understand, maybe giving Terry an "AttaBoy" for the work and the time he's put in to the car. I can tell you from first hand experience the car is not the result of an Endless supply of money, endless hard work and thought maybe.
