Down here in Florida the only reason to kill a snake is if you are gonna eat it. North America has very few poisonous snakes and none of which are very aggressive. Most snakes you find in the area of a parts car are there because of a good food supply...those rodents that destroy everything. Next time you see a snake, go online and find out what it is. The poisonous ones should probably get the boot if you do not know how to handle them. The others are a pretty good asset around the house or barn.
Oh by the way, Rattlesnake tasts like Uh... chicken!

Well here goes my story. When I was about 12 or 13 years old my brother and I were seaching some woods on a neighbors farm near home when we came upon a old junk 54 ford car.It had been there or a long time and was in very bad shape.Being a bonified car nut even at that young age I had to explore the car;so I climb in the car and sit in the drivers seat and begin to look around.I played with the steering wheel, mess with the radio pushbuttons, open the glove box,and reach up and pull down the driver side sunvisor which causes a large black snake about the size in Mike's picture to fall smack dab in my lap.Well snakes normally do not scare me but that day I about tore that Ford apart. To be honest I think my screams and jumping around scared the snake alot worse than the snake scared me!!!

Most / let just say all animals do not like fire / smoke. Need to get a bag of smoke bombs at a fireworks shop or goto an army surplus store for a 15min plus smoke bomb. Let them off around and under the car and watch everything flee.

a house that has been on fire and has smoke damage. Rodents and roaches will not ever return. The deep penetrating smell of smoke drive them away.

But I agree with your stance. Kill em all.

Me too. If I had my gun near by I would be a screaming shooting fool. Put 6 large magnum holes into and out the other side of the car while the snake slowly crawls away.
Thinking to him self "what a wuss!" and "Nice shooting Tex!"

Yes there Are only a FEW poisonous Snakes in the US.
Problem is , Houston area has ALL of them!
I have gone to get under a car on the drive, & met Copperheads, & water moccasins head on, & have found Corals while working around buildings near wooded areas, & have seen rattlers in other areas.
Around My property a Good Snake is a DEAD SNAKE!!

Sorry guys but I've got to agree with Kevin on this one.

Killing a snake just for being a snake, what's up with that?
That's like killing a Chebby owner for owning a Chebby!
Mmmmm. . . .wait, scratch that no it isn't. The CHebby owner had a choice. He deserves it! The snake onthe other hand didn't.

I understand that you don't necessarily want these creatures living in your home, especially around small children.
I say catch and release. Relocate the snake, mouse, rat or whtever elsewhere where you can both live at peace.

Call me what you will but I don't see the point in killing ANYTHING you don't intend to eat, or that is not threatening your life. And I know that a few (very few!) of these snakes can in fact threaten your life, but very few ever will. Most are much more afraid of you than you are of them and they will make every effort to try and avoid you. I've encountered a few rattle snakes and one water moccasins. Every single one of them ran (OK, slithered) like a raped date when they saw me.

    Just my 2 cents.

I guess its how you are brought up. Im no tree hugger so put me in the TED NUGENT side of looking at stuff. The next time you find a 5 foot snake goahead and let him go so he can get bigger and maybe your poodle will come up missing. Or maybe the neighbor's cat either way no big deal ......:Dou:

i saw a snake on the path in the woods.
the snake said, " please pick me up and put me under your jacket, i am cold"
i said " you are a snake and will bite me".
the snake said, " no i wont i am cold".
so i picked the snake up and put it under my jacket.
the snake bit me and i threw it down.
i yelled at the snake , "why did you bite me".
the snake said ," you knew what i was when you picked me up".

oh nevermind, its my wifes fault.
its all that lemonade she keeps squeezing

My "nature" teacher in 3rd grade had a pet snake. After holding one for 10+ minutes, you aren't really scared of them anymore. Just gotta remember the looks of the poisonous ones.

A bunch of Tree, no, no, I mean Snake Huggers on here! I have grown up around these things. Yes, there very few poision snakes compared to all the other species. I have killed several Copperheads. My father has had to kill Rattle snakes. All these ran on our farm lands and were a danger to us. Imagine pruning a christmas tree with a snake coiled up around the trunk of it ready to try and strike you at Face level!

What about the non-poision water snakes around our ponds on one farm that will chase you and bite the hell out of you (yes, chase when not provoked to do so)??? What about another type that ripped half my dog's nose off one time for sniffing it??? What about the one that got stepped on by accident and reached up and bit my worker's leg?? Another bit my friends thumb as he was picking a rock up from his farm. Yeah, none of those died from the bites, but blood came out! I don't like to bleed!! So, they will bleed first. I will admit that you snake huggers have more balls than me. No way I am going to handle one of the things.

all snakes bite, though you may not get bitten every time.

    Poisonous or not.

I do not like things that bite. Especially with needle sharp teeth.

Your going way over the top there. Kittens and snake do not compare.

Of course look who I am talking to.

Mental stability and KEN COTRONA do not compare well either.

Why are you like this?? I ask because every post you have posted lately has nothing but what we (moderators) call nothing to offer but trash. Are you that board that you have to compare kittens to snakes why not go back to the stupid pull your finger thread or better yet just never post in my threads ever...... You havent contributed one smart thing to this board from what I could see by searching your posts... Goodbye:rant:
