Now that I've put my full computer skills on display (!) I think this might finally work.......My '71 currently getting buried in the garage! Thanks for helping me out Mike!
I remember reading about it, but I haven't seen that picture. I remember reading that your garage gets cold in the winter too.
No problem, happy to help. I've updated post #2 in this thread with all the new entries. If I've missed any please let me know.
Good memory Mike!! And yes it still gets WAY to cold out there in the winter!!! I have more pics of that operation if you want to see them? How I drilled the new locations without the drill walking and such, only another machinist would probably appreciate pics like those. But I don't want to clutter up your thread to much, unless every pic is an entry?(brow guy would be here if we still had that option) Derek
So I didn't think about taking pictures until halfway through the process, the first step after the heads were held down to rotary angle table was to tap the guides to 7/16"-14 to install threaded rod into them with a little bit of super glue so they wouldn't move. I wanted to use 10mm threaded rod but couldn't find any fast enough, so ended up with the 7/16"-14. The first pic is the threaded rod glued in, the second is drilling the threaded rod after they were machined flush, the third one is after the holes were drilled and reamed to .500" for the .501" guides to get pressed in. Another step was re-cutting the spring guides smaller with a guided cutter for spring locators so those are concentric to the reamed holes. A few top secret details left out of coarse to make anyone trying to duplicate this to think a bit.(where's the brow guy?!!)
Totally fake. You stole that off the internet somewhere. If that were your car those would be empty bottles of Yuengling. Nice try Shawn
Haha, you sir have a stellar memory!! But the barn fridge is stocked with multiple choices usually, and I'm not a one trick pony. If it's frosty (and the barn fridge is dialed in PERFECTLY so rest assured beverages will be frosty), I'll probably imbibe. LOL. Plus those aluminum bottles have a bigger opening so the fittings fit down in them, so there was a legit reason!
Those look great. It's almost a shame to hide them under a hood. I'm just not going to be happy unless I can see some cutter marks in mine. I am tempted to pick up a set of heads so I can move forward on mine. It would be foolish though. I'm pretty busy with work right now, and I should see mine at the end of the month.
