The first car I made payments on was a 1937 Buick Century 4 dr with side mounts. I had a 1931 Buick that had a rod knock ,and found the 37 for sale by my Aunt's house for $175. I borrowed the money from my Dad,and payed him back at $25 a week. I was a junior in high school at the time ,so it was 1949-50

'88 TurboCoupe purchased 6 mo. old in earlt '89 W/ 27K on it - someone did ALOT of highway driving those 6 months !!!

I landed my first real computer-job as a field tech / trouble-shooter and they gave their employees fleet cars ('88 sunbirds) but when I started they didn't have any. I asked "How much do pay for the fleet rentals ? Give that to me and I'll find my own car !!"

....So, for the next 2 years, every month they paid my $206 car payment, my $91 insurance (plus we had company gas credit cards that no one ever checked usage on....) and I walked away with $3 in my pocket for free.....plus I was driving a WAYYYY cool car compaired to all the other guys :bglasses:

I really didn't like the Co. but I bid my time until the car was paid off and I had a solid job offer, then said "Thanks for the free car !!" :moonu: :moonu:

    Hi Guys,

My VERY first car was an emmaculate 1972 GS455 w/41,000 original miles bought June of 1985 for $2700 from the original owner's wife after he passed away. She told me that in '72 he went to the local showroom and told the salesman that he wanted the "top-of-the-line" Skylark that had to have plenty of passing power and that the wife could also drive with no problems.....and he wanted to take it home that day!

The color had been changed from bamboo cream to a stunning metallic charcoal grey to go along with the back vinyl top and black bucket interior. Other than that only the battery and the tires had been upgraded to Firestone Super Sports, 60-series in the rear and 70-series up front. It was a very beautiful car that I truely miss.

In February of 1988 I hit a patch of "black-ice" at roughly 90mph and promptly kissed a huge telephone pole.:ball: :stmad: :ball: The frame suffered a direct hit in line with the passenger side rail and buckled it in seven places down it's length. The hood was literally folded in half to where the front lip came back to be in line with the air cleaner. I managed to kiss the windshield and leave my eyebrows embedded in the glass. My face is now nicely scarred from all the glass fragments that had to be extracted afterwards but that was my only injury!

I guess I was kind of lucky in the fact that the guy who owned my current '70 GS455 4-speed convert. lived not too far away and had been bugging me for some time to trade but I wouldn't because my '72 was MUCH faster as the convert. only had a 150,000 mile '73 smog'r under the hood! I ended up buying it from him for the sum of $4000 later that year after I saved up a few bucks. I can tell you that I do take much better care of it than I did my hardtop. Oh...many parts from my '72 still live on in my convertible!:TU:

Have a great day everyone..... :)

Lets see.... Started with a $500 '72 Ford full size "Ranch Wagon" 351C with a single glasspack and oh so easy to spin snow tires. Then the '75 Volvo for $800, my parents paid for both of those.

The first car I bought, and had to borrow money on, was my sweet '77 Trans Am. It was silver with blue chicken and a black interior. It had a '71 455 HO and a super T-10 four speed, damn that was a fun car. I had to replace four sets of rear tires before the fronts ever wore out:Do No:

First car I bought was a 1970 GS Stage-1 in 1987. I was 17. Payed $6500. Took a loan from the local bank at 13%. Worked in a Grocery Store for three years at $3.45 and hour to pay it off. It was a good car. Ended up selling it 10 years later for $6500. I will see if I can dig up a pic.

first car was a 72 Olds Cutlass 4-dr no post with the Hi-Comp 350, paid $300 and it was one of the smoothest running cars I've ever owned. Unfortunately, lost a battle 6-months later with a drunk driver behind the wheel of a Toyota p/u while parked in front of my house at 6am on a Sunday :ball:

On the bright side, Insurance company paid me $900

My first car I had to make payments on was a 1997 Pontiac Trans-Am WS6. It was a forest green color with a 6-speed and t-tops. I got it just above dealer cost at $26,000 as my mom was an employee and we're friends of the owner of the dealership. Man, I miss that car! I only put 1500 miles a year on it and sold it in 2000 with 5700 miles.
