And another fun fact, during prohibition Yuengling stayed in business by changing from making beer to ICE CREAM. My other favorite food group!!
You can go here, highlight the character you want, and paste it into the text you are going to post. Works great for ° instead of * for degrees, too. http://www.theasciicode.com.ar/
Nice to see my home state beer, Yeungling, has become so popular! Before I got into the craft beers, my budget beer choices were Yeungling Black & Tan or PBR's in 16oz cans. I still enjoy a Yeungling Lager when there are no craft choices. Skip the 'premium' version unless you want a lighter beer. Their 'Chesterfield Ale' is hoppier and has some more bite. The beer market in Pa has exploded..... so many choices. It's overwhelming! Hoping to try this one out this weekend, one of 6 brews on tap at the Coopersburg beer distributer: Troegs Nimble Giant Hershey, PA ABV: 9.0% “Without sway, there can be no balance.” Our Double IPA gracefully boasts grapefruit rind, pineapple and honeysuckle notes with a hint of earthy forest floor. Nimble Giant will be hitting store shelves beginning on June 12th. 64 oz: $16.97
To Kiwi Dave and papa roger (posts #46 and #65) I couldn't agree more. My absolute favorite of all time was an Ottokringer dark beer. Possibly consuming it in a sidewalk restaurant in Vienna Austria (is there another Vienna?) along with some excellent cuts of cold meat and cheeses had something to do with it. Sadly, it is not sold in the United States, although I have been told that lucky Canadians can get it. I enjoy trying dark craft beer, but my go-to favorite is Guinness draft. Guinness tastes better when consumed in a pub in Killarney.
There is a Vienna, Georgia. I think they pronounce it 'Vy--Inna'. We also have Athens, Rome, and Cairo, too. Patrick
Thanks fellas; - I was hoping there would be an easier way to insert umlauts. either way, for as often as I use them on this forum, it ain't worth the effort.
An interesting link to the ranking of the most popular beers in the US as of this year. https://www.statista.com/statistics/188723/top-domestic-beer-brands-in-the-united-states/
I have too much free time. You got me interested and I found something really odd; The state of Maine contains the following towns: Norway, Paris, Denmark, Naples, Sweden, Poland, Mexico, Peru, China, Madrid, Belfast, Frankfort, Vienna, Rome, Belgrade, Calais, Moscow, Sorrento, Palermo, and Dresden. No wonder they are called Maineacs!
Back in the Day. 1950/60's Pittsburgh had 30 Brewery's. Today of course there is probably 30 Micro brewery's
If I am in a restaurant I will order a Bud Light Draft. I really like Rolling Rock but the headache from just having one isn't worth it. Not sure why but it started 10-12 years ago. Like some others have stated you may find Mich Ultra, Bud Light, Miller Lite or who knows what in my "Little Fridge". Mikey
Funny you mention the "headache after one" thing Mikey, I'm the same way with Amber Bock. Like the stuff (especially on tap), but if I start drinking one I'll barely get through it before my head starts pounding. Weirdness.
That's like a beer I had years ago called Red Elephant, great tasting red beer and would of been my "go to" if it wasn't so miserable headache inducing! But boy did it taste good, what a shame. Makes me want to go out and have a Killian's Red or 2, because now I am remembering how much I use enjoy a red beer of some sort. Is there a better one than Killian's out there that someone can recommend? Derek
Here's a picture of my beer cooler in the garage between two of the items that cause to me to drink so much of it... (Look carefully, it's the yellow thing next to the Cat) It's a 1951 vintage Pepsi machine, and unlike most modern appliances it still works and is running cold on the warmest setting. It only takes bottles, so right now there's a case of Stella and a case of Schneider Weisse in it. Might load up some Kokanee or (gasp) Lethbridge Pilsner into it yet.
