1971 Buick Skylark GS | Raleigh Classic Car Auctions With only 10,556 actual miles driven since new, this handsome triple black Buick GS is likely one of the finest, super low mileage, extremely well documented examples in existence. It is equipped with the factory original chrome 5 blade wheels, black vinyl roof, factory Sonomatic radio, power steering, deluxe black vinyl interior, Buick sport steering wheel, factory seat and shoulder safety belts and much more. This Buick was purchased by Mr. Hartenstein on April 12, 1971 and purchase will include all original ownership documentation.
Very nice but... What's up with the brake booster/MC/valve. Also seems odd for such a supposedly orig. car that it wouldn't have the correct air cleaner decal and have a '72 fan shroud. That said, my '71 GS was purchased new by a lady and at some point a shop decided they'd steal her orig. one and replaced it w/a aftermarket chrome one. Of course they denied it & she found a replacement that happened to be off a '70 so **** does happen. Why wouldn't the seller post pics of the trim tag and all the supposed documentation? No but there were at least 2 '72 GSs (convertibles IIRC) that also had Skylark qtr emblems so I guess anything is possible. I thought the same on the underside. Esp with such nice (fresh?) looking chalk marks on the firewall and new looking heater hose clamps.
This is a really neat car and I'd like to check it out in person to see some original details to use as reference material. It has a few minor items that have been replaced with incorrect parts but but overall looks like a great car. A 10k mile GS is a rare find these days. I'd sure like to have it. It was originally a manual drum brake car. You can still see the yellow "M" on the firewall as well as the non-disc brake pedal pad. I can't really blame anyone for adding better brakes but it wouldn't have cost any additional money to put a correct appearing master cylinder and booster on it. Why is a car with only 10k miles missing the blue door VIN sticker? Someone peel it off or has the door jamb been repainted? It does have a seldom-seen option:
Also, the emblem spacing on the RF fender is off. To me the BMD emblem on the left fender looks crooked but hard to tell for sure and some were crooked from the factory. Certainly poss. the car was in an accident. These things did happen. That could explain the wrong fan shroud too.
A couple of small details..................wrong heater hoses and clamps. Windshield washer hoses disconnected.
What option is this?[/QUOTE] Option I2: Forced Comfort-Flo. Gary is pointing to the switch above the radio that turns on the fans located in the cowl.

Idk how many '71 hardtops were ordered w/it (I could look in @Mike Trom' book) but my convertible is 1 of 7 so less than 1%. I bought the car m/l sight unseen & in pieces & the lady kept saying how it it had "rare A/C" which it doesn't. Wasn't until I started going through boxes and came across the radio bezel w/switch that I realized what she was talking about!
April of '71 would be considered a "later" build for that model year. Taking that into account, shouldn't the (beat up more than a 10K mile cable should be) battery cable be a side post by that point? Also, he needs one of my upper hose stamps.
Did anyone look over the Apollo White “Survivor” 70 GSX at that auction? Under 20k original miles (claimed) https://www.raleighclassic.com/vehicles/in-auction?page=8
The GSX looks like the engine has been out of it. They don't advertise it as numbers matching either. Looks like the odometer has a rolled over at least once in my opinion
Same X as the one I looked at in Scottsdale. Lots of funky stuff to be considered that low mileage. https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1970-BUICK-GSX-STAGE-1-261967
Like to believe that ODO but sadly may not be the case. Years ago I sold a 72 GS 350....lime mist green....over 100K miles....few years later I found it for sale (checked VIN), painted red and with super low original miles. Bummer is people buy them and motor blows and people think POS since motor blew with less than 50K. Buicks are junk!
To me, even if something is low miles, that still comes with pitfalls unless you just put it in a shop and don't drive it. I get even 1000 miles a year on something low miles would still be low miles. But then all the rubber needs replaced if it hasn't been, seals dry out etc etc. I had a low miles older car that I know the entire history of, came from my ex-wifes grandma, who bought it new. Yeah, okay. It starts leaking a bunch, and eventually needed a transmission. Don't get me wrong, that car is still on the road, over 30 years old, with a lot more miles now. But I guess my point is it didn't come without its own issues.
