We’ll link up! I just broke another one removing the oil pump, but happy to report it is one of the cleaner pump surfaces I’ve seen.

    Yeah Louie, for sure!

Sucks that another one broke, though. You going to get the broken ones out of it or order a new cover from TA?

Just curious, what were the date codes on them?

We’ll get them out. Working on that today. It’s a really nice TC overall, would be a shame to not use.

M2/M3. Late for the car but that’s ok

Thanks, I had asked here at V8Buick if anyone had casting dates for '72 S1 heads, but never heard any dates.

I’m also not sure if these were factory S1 heads or regular 455 heads with big valves added for the record

More progress. Waiting on new TA rockers to complete assembly, but most everything else has arrived and is in stock. New timing chain went on tonight, more parts painted, block being cleaned, etc. Used the old heads and a spare oil pan to keep the grime out of the engine.

Wouldn’t be my work without a major spill. Always be aware of your surroundings.

I usually look like I fell down under the car once I'm done working on anything at all.

Hoping to have assembled and ready for paint Thursday. It’s going to be over 60 out..

Was hoping the next post was going to be a nice red engine, but we had some issues getting the new rear main seal installed. Our sneaky Pete broke on the first go around. My dad always liked using the “Chinese finger” type tool as opposed to the metal claws so we have 2 coming from eBay Wednesday. It gets cold here the rest of the week so not sure I will get it painted. I pulled each main cap. They were all replaced in 1977 and have held up well. The thrust bearing has a little more wear than I’d like but we are going to run them for now and keep an eye on oil pressure. Front clip has been removed while we wait to get the engine completed.

Debating on whether I will actually repaint the firewall. It started to clean up pretty nice. I’ll give it a good detail tomorrow and see what the results are. Faint markings of “53 A” and “D” remain present.

Question for the group: Was the overspray on the top of the cowl factory or from its repaint? There is also a fair amount of it on the washer hoses.

I’d say it was re-sprayed at one point shouldn’t be no paint on the windshield washer hoses.

I agree. ^^ Also respray the firewall or you will regret it later.

I'd say at this point, might as well just pull the body, lol. Seriously, I tend to agree w/Nelson. It's not going to be a survivor nor a full resto. Get some good tracings of the firewall marks & give it a really nice/OEM looking engine compartment while you have the front clip off. Put the chalk marks back for fun.

The edges of the top of the cowl definitely saw some body color overspray to varying degrees so that could be factory assuming the fenders were on for the repaint but what's in the middle is definitely from the repaint.

That's what I did when I had my motor out. I cleaned up the firewall and used a big Ziplock bag to trace over what was left of the paint code.

Oddly, my entire engine bay had been subjected to a black spray bomb at one point but somehow whoever did that, missed the paint code as well as a portion of the brake code behind the master cylinder.

What was left of the yellow marking:

Great pics, Brett. That’s a better process than what I was planning on doing. Where did you get the chalk ?
