If it's been in there since new, they put up a fight. Plan on getting new clips and isolators from shifter doc. If the shifter is original, I would blow it apart and install a hurst master rebuild kit. Total parts will be around $165 plus shipping
I just finished taking this one apart which I will be listing shortly, tool me a couple hours to disassemble and clean the shifter and 2 hours to get the fricken handle out. Used a feeler gauge and was such a pain. The isolation rubber gets hard making the clip hard to push in.
Putting the reverse detent spring back in, is a piece cake... Go to youtube and search "Eric crash Davidson" I posted two video's taking apart, and re-assembling an OEM 1970 Z-28 Hurst shifter... I hwve a petented method. I just use a snap on pry bar and a small screwdriver. It's nearly effortless and requires no special fixtures or holding tools
