Extremely odd parrallel with us.. First Buick mom n dad ever owned was inherrited in 78 and sold in 80 ( didn't buy another Buick until 89 then again in 91) because older bro was getting his licence . They felt the car was too ballsy for him.. 4 door w/ automatic even..(64 wildcat for a first car woulda been awesome) Funny thing is they ended up getting him an '80 trans am 306 c.i. 4 spd. Which wasnt all that much slower. Still added comedy to my parents mode of thought tho. I resented my brother for the longest time because of the wildcat jettison.. Funny thing is tho.. My 69 LArk's interior smells "EXACTLY THE SAME" as that 64 wildcats interior..
goofy things like that i seriously think are intentional..
There are no co-winkydinks when it comes to Buick...

Gary, I think I am familiar with the road test of that 1964 Super Wildcat with Dual Quads .If memory serves me correct, it was equipped with 3:08 gears not the optimum combination for dual quad nail in a quarter mile run . I believe that was noted by the writers of the road test article. My opinion is geared correctly and driven properly:3gears: that mild mannered beast would dip in the 15's

ps.Not sure about that one, but road tests were sometimes done with two (2)grown men aboard and some mags used a fifth wheel and a stop watch.

When I dumped my Quadrajet in favor of the dual quads, I noted a surprising increase in top end power. The quicker acceleration I could actually feel through the seat of my pants. I never take what books and magazines have to say with more than a grain of salt, especially when they are talking Buick. :Dou:

Yes but only pro/Am racers were concerned with qtr mile speeds . Street nuts were all about 1/8 mi or 0 to 60 performance.(Whether they realised it or not the street geeks alway1s spoke as if they knew what theyre talking about lol Kinda like me ! :)).When it was put to me that Torque is for street and horse power is for track...it just made soooo much more sense to me. Big gunboats with good setups would toast a car that was more suited for long winded laps but marketed as a qtr mile car.. Thats what theese cars were about..Standing up to lighter more horsey bumper twisters and get to the next light faster than a goat or pony then laugh at the other for being so gulliable that just because its named after an animal with hooves thats it gona be the end all be all of rubber shredders... The morons who tried negotiating deadman's curve @ warp speed without ever concidering atleast testing the Suicide Seatblets' were the ones who gave the Fast gunboats a bad rap. It only took 20 years or so for osmosis to set in on the weight/inertia association.:pp Them boys @ NTSB ain't too bright either,, They're just bright enough to know how to really spoil a great era...**Sigh**

    **update**
2 days ago I had to follow up on a job in SilverSpring ,Maryland.(right outside of Andrews AF base) I saw a red 66 or 67 special ragtop with all the rear axle trimmings and some nice sounding exhaust.
I made the worktruck about 40* warmer trying to catch up to get a closer look. She looked awesome.. Your car not your wife dude.. He musta thought I was gawking at his girl or something.. She was kinda cute but honestly it was all about the car bro.. Promise.. He tore off at the next red light like a bat outa hell.
Sounded good but I'm sorry a 340 just doesn't sound as sweet(don't get me wrong it sounded great) as a 350 or a 455.. Remarkable how much difference in the sound there is running simular exhaust those 10 extra cubic Inches make.

I have been watching for a good deal on a 65/66 Catalina for a while now. Those things are getting expensive. I love the look and apparantely they run great too.

It probably was a super duty if the guy wasn't BSing. Could have been a dual quad or a tri power. Can't under estimate the Ponchos!!!
