Way to slap those Mopars around, James. Its always fun to beat a motor mouth.:TU:

When you go to the track you find out what it runs, not what it should run. On one day I beat a Z06, SRT Magnum, and a 70 GTO ram air IV. Then got whipped by a PT Cruiser. You never know for sure until you get a time slip.

Atta Boy! Good kill. Keep up the good work.

I took the 3.42's out and tried 4.11's and didn't gain 2 tenths in the quarter in a full weight 455 Stage 1 GS auto. A little better 1/8 mile time 2-3 tenths but lost some in the 1/8-1/4 half. Use the torque to your adavantage. I never shift over 5200-5300 anymore.

The 4.11's made for a fun red light racer though from a dead stop. The high gears shock the driveline less and it is easier to control tire spin (because when they break loose they are not spinning as fast as if they were 3.42's). The car was not as fast with the 4.11's as with the 3.42's in rolling starts though.

Sweet kill. I would have been rooting for ya! Gotta love those mopars though.

Racing is all about gear ratio/tire size and weight. If you run 4.10s with 33" tires it's not gunna be that quick. If you run 4.10s with say 26" tires that thing will be quick. assuming you can hook up. So the tire size/gear ratio combo might have been to your advantage. Or maybe you're just a better driver or maybe your car is fast or maybe all of the above.

It is always interesting to see what you can beat at the track. I've beat mustangs and trans ams on the street and at the track. You have to know how to drive. A trans am should smoke my big heavy truck but I've held my own against a few.

Good kill and keep them coming! Do you have a time slip? What were the 60' times? That's what it's all about.

Mine is 3.23 with 26" his is 4.10 with 28" both cars on drag radials
these time slips are not against the mopar they are slips that i dug out from under the seat
I now i should save slips but i dont.

Well, those don't really do any good in deciphering how you killed the mopar but very nice times!

Not actually doing any math but just guessing, 3.23 with 26" tires and 4.10s with 28" tires probably comes pretty close to about the final ratio. He'll still be lower but that 2" will make a difference with your 3.23s

    3.23 with 26" will do 119 @ 5000rpm 4.1 with 28" will do 101 @ 5000rpm that is a 15% advantage to the 4.10's

I have 3.55 gears in my truck and they're terrible for racing. I'd hate to have 3.26s. Too bad he didn't keep the timeslips.

GNs do quite well with 3.42 gears, you just need torque:pp . Your truck is probably on a 30" tire, thereby reducing the effective gear ratio.

also id say your truck has a od tranny or 5 speed

4-5 gears do alot better than 3 allowing a lower rear end and still have a higher final drive

so a 373 would give you a good low end launch but still have a high final drive

rear gear ratios are based on a 26inch tire. Every inch you go up in tires size, your effective gear ratrio goes down a tenth.
    example.
If you have 3.73 and 28 inch tall tires for the street, when you go to the track and put on 26 inch slicks, youll basically have a 3.93 ratio.

what matters is the total combo. Including the driver. I have beat a ton of 440s with a nailhead. Surprised several street hemis too. I have never been beaten by any 383.
One of the best things you can do to help any Buick is to lighten the car as much as possible. The big advantage that the Mopars have is that they have no frame and are very light for thier size. Mopar engines are not that much stronger than other engines.

I think a 5 speed (dual overdrive) with 31" (28" drag raidals for the track) tires and 3.55 gears is a terrible combo for racing. I hit 2nd at 55 and 3rd at 85. I run 90 MPH in the 1/4. I'm barely hitting 3rd gear. It's takes FOREVER to get to the next gear. It's a quick truck. I've beaten plenty of 5.0s and trans ams and firebirds. I'm gunna put some 4.56s in soon and really get that big ol' truck moving!

And you're right about mopars not being that much stronger but they kicked a$$ in the '60s when GM didn't have anything bigger than 400 cubes. Mopar had the 400, 413, 440 and hemi 426. I love my GMs and my Mopars but I don't take sides. I'm a true old car lover.

Agreed. However, it is always fun when we are at the cruise in, at the local pizza place and he and his mopar buddies are bag'n on my buick. then i simply say, well my car maybe ugly but who's car is faster. :beer Then all of a sudden i'm the jerk and the excuses are flying.:ball: I would love to have his car and he knows it. i even admit it to him, in private of course. The one thing that i have noticed about my mopar buddies is that they can sure through rocks all day long. but they sure don't like it when you through even one rock back at them.

gospdgo, are you familiar with the bible verse about the consequences of being a double-minded man? Better stick to the Buicks! No good can come from serving two masters!!! Later, Randy
