Interesting seeing how the alternator fan was removed. I wonder how the pulleys line up? Also, what do you think the can of Marvel Mystery Oil is doing mounted to the RH fenderwell?
Yes for 1969 it was an option on the order form and was assembled at the Flint assembly plant only. Here is a document shown in the auction this is a summary of what is included:
I feel the lack of the original engine and carb is going to hurt the final price a bit. I HOPE I’m wrong…
I'm on record above predicting it wouldn't go that high. Strong $ for a NOM but nice to see a Stepchild bring it.
Nice! The money is getting closer to Pontiac and Olds Money. Still a way to go. Still can't restore them and make money unless you can do all the work yourself and not pay yourself.
You are not alone, even George said $20k was generous for this car The seller has to be very happy today because they previously had it form sale on FB for $32k and didn't get a bite but listed it on BAT and got exactly $32k. It looks like the seller knows the market better than any of us! The seller knew EXACTLY what the market would say but just had to find the right venue to find a buyer at $32k. Here is the old FB ad:
The only way to make money restoring a Buick is if you are restoring someone else's Buick and charging them by the hour!
We fool around with these cars because we like them or maybe because we like the pain of owning them.
Id be serious w/ in person inspection @ 20k, you know you’re going to spend another 5K on this car to get it where it’s truly turkey and right. And at the end of the day it’s still a 69 on resale it’s Christmas time and my guess is the auction is going to stall somewhere between 18/23K… Steve weim55 Colorado[/QUOTE] Actually quite happy my prediction was way off the mark. Can’t tell you the last time (never?) come across any BB GS in this fine unrestored condition and one owner (!) (it’s 2023 for cryin’ out loud-54years!!) Likelihood of another like it coming along for this $$$ ? Slim and zero. In the endless sea of overpriced garbage this was rare gem…. Steve weim55 Colorado
Personally, I hate the process of selling anything. Getting 27k half a year ago would have suited me more than putting a deal together at Christmas. That's divorce material
Cold blooded!!!!! Lol. Yes, I can admit I was way off and can eat some crow. I think MANY people on this forum know that I LOVE the stepchildren. I think the allure was the originality of the car… despite engine, carb, and other parts. Like many commenting, I know the cost of the missing parts… and couldn’t justify a $30k+ price tag. I’m happy someone did!
Buick experts : $20,000-26,000 BEFORE learning a $2500 carburetor is missing . Bring a trailer ego bidders : $32,000 Would be interesting to see the Monday morning buyers remorse when the project is delivered .
The "Buick Experts" here are fixated on details that real buyers don't know or care about. It's a great car that's in fantastic shape and rare. Yes, the original distributer is gone, but so what? Not every car needs to be restored to Concours or Jasonized. It is what it is, and it's pretty nice. No reason to put down a buyer that got a great car, because "experts".
Being NOM I wouldn't worry about the carb/dist. Fwiw, a documented NOM unrestored '70 LS-6 4-sp. sold on there today for $84k. Equivalent Stage 1 would've been about ½ that at most.
