Here's a more current picture of my GS from the '07 Nat's in BG. (just had it scanned) There sure are one heck of a lot of nice Buicks out there!!! The benchmark for quality is definitely going up! Steve
Nice car Steve. Love the color! Stratomist blue. What's the E.T.? :3gears: I would love to have one to race myself
Thanks! The car in race trim was running 10.90's. Currently in FULL street trim it's run a best of 11.68. That's driven right off the street and onto the track with no other mods. Not a world shattering ET, but not bad for a very mild combo and a lot of weight. My new car that I'm building should be in the 9's, so that'll cure my "need for speed" for a little while!! The original color was Gulfstream Blue, but I cheated just a little and painted it a brighter shade, ....GM color, Bahama Blue Poly.
Our replica http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj269/staged70/?albumview=slideshow I really cannot wait till I get the real Stage 1 car done ! It should be at least this nice with all the NOS I have found for it.:kodak:
Here's my 70 Skylark.. 350/350TH, basically bone stock under the hood with the exception of an Edelbrock 600cfm carb. The interior has new carpet and heated, 6-way power leather seats from a Cadillac Deville. I just installed a Custom Audiosound radio and kickpanel speakers - looks original! Car needs a little vacuuming from when I knocked some brittle insulation out from under the dash
Picked up this 71 GS 455 recently and can't wait to start fixing her up this Spring. 71 GS with 72 bumpers, hood grilles, grille, and door panels.Seats are from a mid 80's 442,has power windows and front disc brakes, non ac car.Engine is a 1970 SR code 455,with stage 1 heads,T/A SP1 intake with a holley carb.Hooker headers and a monster cam where I can't get it to idle properly, but will smoke the tires all the way down the street.Has a sp400 from a 67 Riviera, and a chevy 10 bolt with 4:10 posi rear.I will replace the grille and bumpers, and rear floor pan this spring.
PHEWWWWou: , quite the project on your hands :moonu: ....have you decided on what car wash soap to start with:laugh: Pretty decent looking ride from the pics. Only a couple of minor details and a wash away from double tasty! How is the steel? A good runner? Nice score!
Thanks, sorry about that.I didn't mean it like that.I know what it needs, and should have explained. It does look good from the pics, and it is a good runner.Steel is good except for the bottom corners of both doors.Frame is solid, rear floor needs replacing.Paint has some fading in some areas that photos didn't pick up.Has many 72 parts including bumpers and interior panels.Has power windows and front disc brakes.I'll edit that post.:TU:
Wow!!!  Nice car Tom! I had to run in the garage and check to make sure mine was still there! Where the hell did you find that? They sure do look good in black!:beer
:idea2: If the door panels are nice I would be intersted in those should you decide to replace them with 71 pieces. :dollar:
Thanks Jason, and yes they do look good in black.I told you about this car at Commack, but then again you had alot on your plate with your engine issues and the new one still at the shop.Plus we where still talking about the sale of the 69 stage.Anyway I got it off ebay, but the guy was selling it as a Skylark (gs stage clone).I questioned the vin# ,because it was missing a digit. He replied back with the correct # but never fixed it in the auction which never met the reserve.Turned out to be a real GS,and I told him that.I made him an offer after the auction and he accepted it.Got a good deal on the car still less then his reserve, car came from upstate NY.He didn't know to much about Buicks, but the owner before him did who is credited with the work on the car and drivetrain.Interior will need some work.If you remember I told you I also got a set of 1970 Oldsmobile 442 bucket seats with the purchase of the car.I kinda like the seats that are in the car now, really comfortable.I just need to recover them in a different material and color.
Hey John,I don't think you'd be interested in these.Though they are not ripped,it looks as if he had a thing with blue. Not only did he color the GS emblems and rocker molding stripes blue, but looks like he dyed the panels blue.I don't know, you tell me if that fabric is orginal or not.
Newbie first-post bump to a jaw-bruising thread! Wow. Quick history on the 'Death Machine' as my buddy nicknamed the '72 Skylark Custom I just bought. Dark green, four door, white (?) vinyl top that is now a dark creme, may have been dyed. Dark green interior, CA car, solid, good 350-2.Needs a main bearing as it's got low oil pressure. This is only my second car, my first was a '91 lexus ls 400, that, while I loved the hell out of it, after trying to fix it, with the help of a couple friends, snapped one of the (aluminum!) bolts in the block, and need to do some work to it just to unload it. HA. Anyway, after that fiasco, these same buddies urged me to pick up this beast for 2K. Don't know the original mileage, not too worried about it. My custom will be getting customized here soon. We plan on doing a full engine tear down, meanwhile I will be putting the ram air gs hood on it, trying to get the ram air parts to hook it up, will be switching the stock 2 barrel for a 4, needs new front shocks, rear ones were replaced by previous owner. Seriously considering putting buckets and console shift in her, but that will be after she is daily-driveable again. Love this car, despite going from a fully loaded lexus to a hand-power everything beast, even the factory ac isn't hooked up! lol. Prolly gonna keep it like that, too. 4-75 air is all this country boy needs anyhow. AM radio is not hooked up, but will stay in the dash, for appearance, while a decent but not extravagant system will be getting hooked up. Even the headliner and carpet are nice, if a little faded. Bench seat upholstery is torn up kinda bad, though. Oh well. Nice project, with lots of potential. And I am looking forward to learning a lot about mechanics on this beast. Thanks if you read through all of this, will be getting a dig. camera soon to take before, during, and after pics!
