Awesome kill. It's great when someone thinks they've got a monster and get shut down by a real one. :3gears:

Musclecar school was in session when you put that butt whooping on his rice rocket!!

I have a neighbor who built a '72 Nova with this son a couple of yrs ago. Small block crate motor, duals, the usual stuff..... I took the Dad for a ride in my Turbo Regal which is modded pretty good for a street car running around 24 PSI on alcohol injection. His Dad was totally blown away by the performance. Nover took the son out in the car but all of his HS friends have immense respect and wave when they see me. Sometimes you gotta do what a man's gotta do! Good kill and be safe! :TU:

Just as an update on this one. For the first couple of weeks that they lived across the street, the Sublaru was always in the drive. Since last weekend, it's in the garage and his SUV is in the drive now. :)

I would say that's a sign of him plotting his revenge... after he spends ten grand on mods and a bigger turbo and you still beat him, watch for it- the suby will go up for sale and you'll see a myterious appearance of a buick in his garage.

You could have had your wife play along. "Hey honey can I borrow the Buick before you run to the store for cat food?"

I love these kinds of kill stories.

Well, he oughta be embarassed. Not only because he got his butt handed to him, but also because he's a snarky little punk. What kind of snot-nose moves into a new neighborhood and smarts off to the guy who welcomes them with cookies? Some kids (parents) have no manners or class.

If he had two brain cells to rub together, he'd be over at your place wanting to learn something.

    +1

I know that's where I'd be too, but duh I'm a buick nut too... lol. when my family moved to a new neighborhood and I was about 13-14 I was over at my new friend's house drooling on his dad's nova pro street every chance I got, trying to learn something from him!

Nice kill. The bozo got what he had coming to him.

Yes and no; I can't speak for what the kid's reasoning was (given the intelligence he displayed, it was probably along the lines of "well that's what they always do in the movies..." *eyeroll*) but I can offer some insight since my daily driver is an 07 STI Limited (yes, yes, I know... boo, hiss, etc. :pp Say what you want, I love the car as much as I do the Buick, but for entirely different reasons. And at least, being a Limited, mine doesn't have the retarded carrying handle on the trunk :pp ).

There's a few things at play here. First, the car has a 2.5L 4 banger that's running about 15psi of boost. It has a 7k redline and absolutely no power whatsoever below about 2500 or 3k if it's stock. In fact, it has so little low end torque that it's not until now, at 10k miles after things have loosened up a bit, and with an SPT intake & exhaust on it that I can pull away from a stop in 2nd without an inordinate amount of clutch slippage, and even now, it shudders enough that I don't make a habit of it because the engine is obviously being lugged and clearly does not appreciate it one bit.

And the second issue, which is a direct result of the first, is that there's really only two ways to get a good launch out of the STI; rev it to ~3k and slip the clutch, or rev it higher and dump it. The first option is not kind to the clutch, obviously, and the second, since the car doesn't have enough torque-unless it's VERY heavily modified-to break all 4 tires loose, is absolutely murderous on the drivetrain. The STI will handle it better than the regular WRX will, but if you dump the clutch from those RPMs often enough, sooner or later you WILL break an axle, the diff, or the transmission.

Ultimately, it's safer for the STI to go from a roll, and running it from ~20-30mph in 1st or ~40ish in 2nd reduces turbo lag to the absolute minimum possible with the stock turbo, uppipe, downpipe, etc. Essentially, running from a rolling start gives him the best chance he's got. Not that it helped the knucklehead that picked the fight in this particular instance.

Bottom line is that the STI is not intended to be a drag car, it's not ideally suited to the task, and anybody stupid enough to take a look at an 11 second car (even if he wasn't told how fast it is, it should've been quite apparent that it wasn't stock, and really wasn't something that he wanted to pick a fight with) and then try to take it on in anything even vaguely resembling a stock STI is an utter moron.

And 70 gsconvt... As an STI owner, I apologize for this kid's complete idiocy; there are those of us that appreciate performance cars, regardless of when or where they're built. And thank you for putting him in his place. :beers2:

No apologies necessary, Kevin. I actually like the cars. I think that just about every auto maker has a car I'd like to own. I like 1970-71 Torinos, 1966-67 Dodge Chargers, 1967 Impalas, BMW M5's (the older ones, not the newest one even though it's wicked fast), etc.

This kid just irked me with his condisending smugness that he was just gonna lay the smack down on me because his car was newer or somehting.

Built right, these cars are faaaasssstttt. I have a friend that has one and it is sick. But, he's a Buick guy, meaning he has a brain, and he has spent lots of $$ on it just like it takes to make about any car fast. I can respect someone that understands cars, and puts the research and effort into making them perform at their best. You just ran into a kid that can barely afford the payment and a $46 e-bay cat-back. He deserved everything he got!

My favorite pasttime in the summer (when diesel prices were lower), was taking my chipped Duramax and sooting all the fart-pipe Honda boys that have '11 second' cars. Amazing how many '11 second' cars I have smoked (literally) with a 7200lb truck.

    Great kill.

All the sti/evo guys here in G'ville know the White Turbo and have lost to it or seen it run at the track and won't try anymore and the 3" duals off the Mickey Thompson headers make the Stage 1 too loud for street racing.

There is a Maclaren I've seen running around occasionally, hmmmmm.

But my next race appears to be a friend of my dad's. He just restored his 70's 307ci El Camino and put a "hot cam" in it along with a four barrel manifold and carb and says it's really fast. It really is a 307 guys.
    Doesn't it ever end!
