ss Camaros have 13 sec cars since the mid 90s. there is fwd/awd v6 cars getting into that territory now.

Yea 13 seconds is almost mid sized sedan territory now a days. The new V6 Camaro's run mid 13's while the V8's are low 12's.

I friend of mine recently bought a new Challenger with the Scat Pack option. Within a week he was at the track and ran a 12.50@113mph.

Dodge Hellcats and 2013-4 GT500s run in the 11s stock.

A new Porsche Turbo, a Nissan GTR and one Tesla model run in the high 10s stock.

A lot of the Mustang GTs in recent years will run in the 12s stock.

Any newer mustang gt will run 13s stock and if good driver and surface maybe crack high 12s

years ago my friend had a 2000 camaro with the v6. That thing was ridiculously fast. The v8 faster, but only by a little. also, the v6 was lighter and so a good driver (which he was) could toast anyone.

I haven't ridden in a newer model v6, but I would bet they are freaky fast.

why do we need racing slicks and smoke then if they can get traction with skinny factory tires? What do these cars weigh and what kind of mpg are they getting?

A 2013-14 GT 500 is 3850 pounds while a Hellcat is 4400 -4500 pounds. The tires are not skinny.

The 14 GT500 is highway rated for about 25 mpg. Around town it actually gets about 14 mpg.

A Hellcat gets less MPG than the GT500.

Both The Hellcat and the GT 500 have twice the stock RWHP of a 70 Stage 1 GSX, better tires, and better transmissions.

The new Camaro has 275/35-20 rear tires, intelligent launch control, runs the 1/4 in 12.3 seconds at 116 mph, weighs 3700 lbs, and gets 26 mpg highway. It's currently the best bang for your buck car out there right now.

The transmissions are the kicker here, think about it first gear in a T400 is 2.48 and first gear in a new 8 speed GM is around 4.56 (going from memory here)...T400 top gear 1:1 and top gear any 4,6,8 speed is around .7 so buddy in his Camaro can run 3.73's in the back and still be awesome on the highway yet his first gear combo is around 17.1:1 compared to a T400 with typical 3.42 geared stage 1 at 8.48:1....toss in better chassis design, less power loss through good drivetrain design, these things are quick. A stock 2016 SS (455 hp, 8 speed auto) will easily run mid-high 12's bone stock and make no mistake upgrades are easy. Google it.

The new GM transmissions have a bolt on bellhousing, so if somebody would cast up the BOP bellhousing it would be awesome to put a 6 or 8 speed behind a 455 and then we'd see some tire smoke...LOL You could run a 2.56 rear gear and still have better off the line pull than a T400 with 3.42's...

It all depends what you want out of your hobby.

Most the high performance cars now have launch control to limit wheelspin on takeoff. There's a lot of cars running legitimate low 12s and 11s in the quarter from the factory, a few in the 10s, and some real expensive (million dollar plus) Bugattis, Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918, and McLaren P1 are deep in the 9s, off the showroom floor. 13s is what a new Ford Raptor off road pickup will run now. 13s used to seem so fast, but a top of the line Chevy Malibu is damn near there anymore. The new cars are heavy, but technology (transmissions, variable valve timing, variable vane turbos-many new cars are turbocharged, tire technology, and the aforementioned launch control make it almost too easy. I've seen a stock Hellcat Challenger on stock radials turn 11.2 at Alaska Dragway Park in Palmer, and a stock Mustang GT turning 12.8 the same day. It's just not the same....... I will tell you, the new cars don't "feel" as fast, they do it very non-violently, they just don't have the bottom end torque we're used to feeling. A Z06 Corvette is a low 11 second car, and I've driven a few of them, and you'd swear it'd run high 13s.

While I haven't done it (yet) My Focus ST is said to run high 13s. The new Focus RS should be well into the 13s.

I'll add to my previous post this way.....My Mach 1 runs high 10s, and will scare the bejesus out of just about anyone that rides in it. It's a handful to drive. My Mom could hop in a new Corvette Z06 with an automatic and run low 11s all day long. My Grandma could do the same.

Our 09 Challenger 5.7 ran 13.39 @105. We now have a new Scat Pack Challenger and it feels like low 12's, I will get it to the track in the spring. Drove it to Utah and back and averaged 25.4 mpg fully loaded with vacation gear. It's an 8 speed automatic.

Simple answer is Progression,...cars have and will only continue to get faster, most New trucks could run off and hide from most any original muscle car, I'm probably going to get one of the New 6.2 Yukon's next year, they will flat out get down with the 373 gear

No, the new v6 Camaros are 335 HP this year I believe, just a naturally aspirated v6. Buddy of mine ran his new hemi Durango that he bought for his wife, ran 9.5 to the 1/8 that's high 14's to the 1/4. New Camry's will go low 14's. Have a local guy with one of the turbo 4cyl Mustangs that runs low 12's too
