Is that an 830 Holley? If it is that is a very good carb. It will run with a 950 HP on most motors ( I run Bigs 950 CNC) Tune will be more important than the CFM number.

its actually a quickfuel 830 cfm super street, all billet here is the link to the carb http://www.summitracing.com/parts/QFT-SS-830/ and i was actually thinking to take off the choke horn to get closer to the 900 mark..this carb still needs a bit more tuning since the offy to b4b intake swap but man does it work great..i love the adjustability on this one vs the holley.. it is lighter and matches my paint.. i still have respects to holley, as i do keep 2 spare carbs. but this one was actually pretty good priced and comes from a good company..what do you guys think on the combo i have so far, Guestimate hp torque, maybe 1/4 miles numbers asuming its running good.

    73 455 bored .30 low compression pistons
    71-72 455 heads with stage 1 valves
    b4b intake manifold
    quickfuel carb
kenne bell aluminum roller rocker arms
    thicker 3/8 pushrods
    1 7/8 headers full length
    unknown cam, maybe stock
    th400 tranny.
currently stock rear end non posi with 2.56 Working on a new posi and 3.42 gears.
    2400 stall converter
stock point dist. with electronic conversion
    acell 8mm wires
    no mech fan, electric.

the fact that the mustangs are both 5 speeds, does this make them faster at take off or higher speeds, will the 455 torque help out allot vs this engine.

Nothing wrong with your carb. I only drive my car in the summer so did not need a choke. You need a good cam that works with your compression ratio (someone here will have some suggestions.)

If you go from a roll you should take the Mustangs right now. As you know your rear end is hurting you. I would imagine that you can fry that poor tire forever right now.

With a posi and gear you will probably run low 13's. The right cam and tuning will put you into the 12's.

Thanks Sailbrd. this just got me excited, racing them or not.. i still want to take on that challenge and see if i can make the car go in to the mid 13s or lower if possible..i think as soon as i get the car up and running again i can look more into tuning it for power and performance..

you wont need the choke... I ran my '64 rivi with a 425 down there in the winter and summer with no choke.. just had to feather the throttle 'till she warmed up.

What are the temps like right now in sactown?

Doug (dpcp66 ) and his brother from turlock,ca..came and tuned up my car several ways... great set of guys... tons of info from them, got my car to have more power then before at midrange power, we came to a conclusion i did have a leak somewhere, and figured out that one of the mixture screws from the brand new quickfuel was bent... i noticed this when it was in the box when i purchased it from summit but thought it was just the head (these quickfuel carbs have the bigger headed adjustment screw) and did not realize this till Dougs brother took the screw out while adjusting them.. i never thought this would cause that even after the carb left the summitfloor..guess i should pay attention more when purchasing things. this thing sounds awsome like never before at around 2500-3500 rpms, tons of hidden power cant wait till its tuned 100%..could not get to that because of the carb and small radiator (350) will be getting a bigger one when i head down to summit to exchange the carb..

I've had a couple of Mustangs; One was a '93 LX, the other a '97 Cobra. The Fox Body cars are not very fast stock, but there is a HUGE aftermarket for them. Heck, just as an example, look at a Summit catalog. They have an entire section for just the 5.0 cars. There are so many bolt-ons and kits and this and that for them that even a dummy can make one respectably fast. The Cobra's on the other hand are pretty darn quick right from the factory (high 13's in the 1/4 for the late '90s 4.6 cars if I remember right...)
