Has anyone seen the "ghost rider" movies? I've only read about him on the net, but he supposedly has a 400 hp turbo hayabusa and another bike with all carbon fiber stuff on it. His site is down till Friday, but have a look on there. ghostridermovie.net Ther's also a quite interestig event being planned, the "ultimate rally" in 2006. Have a look at ultimaterally.com if you have nothing better to do.

When buickpower was still a website I seen a video clip of a GN(definetly not stock) racing a dodge viper(wasn't stock either) and they were traveling 220+. Pretty fast for street cars. Pretty nice clip, wish that website still existed. :(

Not to mention but alot of speed bikes can run 9's right out of the box in the quarter. One thing I don't like about bikes is when you get up to a certain speed you're practically scared crapless(if you're like me that is), rather as in a car, like that GN or Viper I was talking about up there, although it's dangerous to do that on the street, I could still bare out the fear of going 220 plus in a car than a bike. If it wasn't for the fear of going high top speeds on a bike I might be more interested... :)

I'd like to meet the guy that somehow got a street gn to get to over 220.. that takes a LOT of suspension mods.. those things float like crazy past 120 or so, and i just cant imagine a gn keeping up with a viper in the speed range, theyre low end cars and vipers definitely are NOT.

    Guys,

Modern literbikes(1000cc and over) are not to be taken lightly and in my opinion should only be sold to riders that can prove to have a certain level of experience.

I say that because any machine that can run 9.80's at 144mph in the 1/4 stock is not for the inexperienced. Hell, even a mildly proficent rider can run low 10's on a new R1 or ZX10R. If you have any doubt about them think about this. I've roadraced, dragraced and street ridden bikes for 20 years. my current motorcycle puts 154 rwhp to the ground and weighs 440lbs full of fluids. I can accelerate from a 60mph roll to a gear limited 181 mph(calculated off rpm, gear ratio and tire diameter. Bike speedos are way off so I don't use one) in less than 3/4 of a mile. When I say gear limited I mean it. I can hit the limiter at 12,000 rpm so hard it feels like you nailed the brakes. It is almost commonplace for a turbo Busa or ZX12 to blow through 200mph these days. I'm probly gonna turbo my scoot myself. 8 psi will give me 200 RWHP and with a gearing change 200 mph shouldn't be unattainable.

PS. If you wanna race sportbikes today your best shot is from a dead stop. If you have a 10 sec. car you can beat most simply because most of the guys riding them have no clue how to properly launch a wheelie prone machine. If you can hook you'll get them out of the hole enough to hold 'em off til the end of the 1/4. After that tho they will come around you HARD.

That sounds about right... for a stockish Busa. Sport Rider tested a '99 and went 9.97 @ 144.80 in the 1/4 and topped out at 189.6 bone stock. Add a single turbo kit and you are going to double your power easily.

As far as liter bikes not pulling wheelies as well as 600's and 750's... :Dou:

    Here is a dyno chart on a 2000 GSXR600

Now here is a chart for a 2001 GSX1300R Hayabusa
    [IMG]

There is roughly 100lbs difference between the two bikes... which one will yank the wheel off the ground better?

Okay I've been at 160+ (lets just say there were pretty round lights behind me)and it was NOTHING like that. Maybe he was going over 200 mph, but there is no major wind noise. At that speed you should be hearing the wind bouncing off the rider or swirling around the bike itself. Also It those speeds the bike will have a tendancy to 'lift' from the air its displacing (such in the stock car races when they get spun and go into the air on the straightaways) and this makes the bike move from left to right following the imperfections in the pavement UNLESS its a PERFECT road. From the sound of the bike and the speed of the surrounding objects going by I would guess he regeared the bike .

Plus Suzuki had a governor put on the Hayubusa after the second year of production due to government mandates about their speed and the fact the mortality rating after purchasing the bike was hovering around 63%. The new bikes would only go to 175 +/- and that would not allow a true 200 mph reading.

    ???!!!

It feels like they wouldn't be able to sell it if that was the case.

The mortality rate thing is not true. The manufacturers had been one-upping each other every year, until the hayabusa. At that point, they got together and decided they had better put a self-imposed limit on superbikes before governments around the world banned them.

The early Sport Bikes (like my old Z1) exhibited horrible handling characteristics.
My nerve was the speed limiter (+- 150-mph).

The Hayabusa has a great aero package, the faster you go the smoother the ride!!!
A recent test ride left me both excited and terrified my first thoughts
That was way too easy. (Drool-evil grin)

The modern sportbike is a deadly combination for all but the most experienced riderand even then, its like unstopping your toilet with a hand grenade.
    Insane!!

Oh that GN was by all means not stock, didn't sound stock or anything, and since this viper appeared to be a GTS and the GN appeared like a GN, well they had to be traveling pretty close to what I said. You can make a GS go over 220, just take a lot of money and a lot of time...

Maybe they weren't but I couldve thought about it another way, I know what you mean scott, I know vipers aren't slow, but any car can do 220+ with some work.

I agree that the busa is no to be taken lightly...but when he is slowing down he cant be doing over 50 mph and the speedo says 110

You are correct, a GTS Viper is definitely not slow compared to a GN or GNX... it is MUCH faster.

    Can't believe the debates continues.

Since the 70s bikes could do 150-160MPH but were very squirly from the lack of aero dynamics.

This is 2004, they should be doing 250+ and playing fancy with 300MPH

i think what started as one debate(validity of video) turned into another debate(abilty of hayabusa) which was confused for another debate (abilty of modified hayabusa) which has come full circle and now involves a 220mph grand national.........the synergy of boredom and knowitallism :Dou:

Here's the last thing im saying to this thread before I quit looking at it, any car can be modified with time and money to do whatever you want it too, you have the money and time, you can build the speed...simple as that.

If you want something cheap, fun, and fast, get a speed bike, might be scary to go fast on one but if you want 9's right out of the box then a speed bike is something to consider. If you want a car that will do 9's out of the box, look to spend a little more $$$. I don't see any point or know anyone who would want to go 220+ on anything. Seems pointless. I guess whatever floats their boat. If I was going to go 220 though I would want to have something around me instead of thin air.(a car preferably)

If that is a normal road that guy is riding on, then there's no possible way he is going 200mph with the rate that the stripes are going by.
