Max Damage I'm working on it!

Shifting the car into gear while you are under it and the E-brake is holding it in place, strikes me as bad baseball.

Glad it was nothing major and you are OK.

    docgsx It's not a GTX

Cool, thank you guys. Putting together an 84 hot air car that needs a little help. Nothing crazy though. It will be driven in traffic, on the highway and cruise nights without having problems.

BTW, we got one of Jim’s converters for the race car, when I tested it, I was amazed at the response. Looking forward to getting it to the track to see what type of difference it made for us in the stage-2 car.

I was out driving Saturday and I remember driving with a 373 gear and the 350 trans 3200 rpm to stay at 60 with a 3500 stall 28" tires too.
Driving to Dragway 42 on the highway for an hr made things a little warm especially going 3200 rpm all the way always stayed at 185* then. I run at 190* now must need a rad cleaning.

Now with the 2004r trans I was going 2700 rpm at 53 mph I then shifted into 4th and was at 2000 rpm I locked up the convertor and now was at 1800 rpm going 55 on a 2 lane highway and a 373 gear NICE.
we drove for 2 1/2 hrs total between last weekend and this one and used about a 1/4 tank of gas.

see what happens with the nasty cam
There is nothing wrong with the Hughs convertors I used a 3500 with the TA 510 cam it was tight
JW gives you a free restall if you feel it is not right can't go wrong with that

    Mark,

If that ever happens again, and for the benefit of everyone else looking in..

Shut the engine off, put the trans in the desired gear manually, and then fire it back up.. Pump pressure in the trans does not come up instantly, so you will have a second or two after it starts, to get your wits about you..

I would NOT trust any ebrake to keep me from getting run over..

As far as your converter varying the rpm at a given speed.. any force that acts against the car will cause it to stall a touch, until your beyond the brake stall speed.. Headwinds are usually the biggest thing that does this.

I don't think the car is going to start unless it is in N or P You would still have to crawl under the car to get it in gear. I would at least use a brick with the E- brake. Maybe 2.

Oh wait a minute If the gear selector in the car is in P or N it should work, Wait, brain just worked ha.
Since it is disconnected from trans it will work.
Yeah I have to agree with Jim put the trans in the gear you want to be in and get in and start it up. Be like the old days, start the car up in gear and roll on LOL.

336/26.6 X 3.42 X 72 = 3110 RPM. Add 200 RPM for slippage and you are at 3300. That's assuming the speedometer is accurate. Hard to see in the video. Might be a bit more than 72 MPH, and a bit less than 3500 RPM.

Yeah, that would be good for another 100RPM for sure.

either way you look at it the engine is running over 3000 rpm to stay at highway speed. and it is a real pain when on a 1 +hr long trip.

shoulda got that 2004r trans when I said so 3 years ago would not have this problem trans will be good till 10 sec then you need a 400 trans.

I think if Mart puts a 150 shot on his motor he can/will hit a 10.99 only .9 from what I ran at 11.81

Wont work that way unless I disconnect the linkage from the column under the hood as the linkage operates the gear indicator and neutral switch, (Im sure you know that:D) it was just the cable from the shifter to the trans lever.
The other thing that went thru my mind is the convertor will, and does absorb any pulses and lurching from the engine, so in essence it provides a cushion, unlike a tighter convertor would.
I was also able to reach the selector lever just by reaching over, I wasnt under the car.

Yes the speedo is GPS accurate, it was showing 74 mph on the speedo, and a fuzz less than 3500 rpm.

Funny you mention the "Old days":p:p
Thats what it felt like, 1986, using your noggin to rig something to work again so you can keep rolling!
It was actually kinda fun in a weird wayo_Oo_O

Good point, never considered that, but always wondered why it varied only between 3000 and 3500 rpm, never considered weather conditions.
It probably does it at lower rpm also in city traffic, but I dont drive much city in the GS, usually highway.
