If you got beat by a car with a wing on it would you be embarassed?

Ugly as these cars are (by our standards) some of them can really fly. I'm not by any stretch of the imagination praising these cars, I hate the things. And I think fart cans are totally rediculas. But I was at a dyno run a few years back, and this one Nissan something or other was putting out over 300 HP at the rear wheels. When you add that to the fact these cars are so darned light it's no wonder some of them can really move. Which led me to the question.......if you got beat by one would you be embarassed? :Do No:

Personally, I probably would, but I also learned a long time ago that for every fast car, there is always another one somewhere that goes even faster. :Dou:

Not talking about rice here but i know some VW's such as the R-32 and the jetta Gls 20th anniversery edition from 2004 are serious forces to be reconned with.. Those 1.8T motors and the Turbo 2.0's are some nasty machines when chipped out. Just about any Vw with a chip nowadays can run circles around a new GTO. Some food for thought. Don't worry about the rice.. Start paying attention to the Kraut ..

    FYI
My Lark was ripped up by a 07 WRX STI by subaru.. Nothing embarassing about losing to that car... Same with a mitsu evo mk vIII..
Most street guys in here would lose to theese cars stock or barely beat them on the street anyways. No chance in hell on the hilly twisties..
To put into perspective.. The mitsu and the WRX sti can keep up with GSX-r 1100 's(Sportbikes) on acceleration and top end with minor mods.
Subarus and mitsu are both underrated to the public and are well below the 5.5 second mark on 0 to 60. 9 seconds on 0-100 mph. and 13.8 stock rating on qtr mile times.. since theyre underrated in america for obvious reasons.. take away anywhere up to a full second to .5 seconds on all average times and add another 20% on rated BHP.. SAE net ofcourse. Both cars outperform major supercars and hang with sportbikes on open highways.
Never seen any muscle car setup that can do that. Not since Madmax anyways.. LOL

07 farhenheit GTI turbo ( ugly bright orange ones) have over 200hp and do 0to 60 close to 6 seconds w/o using the onboard launch control.
with launch control it can break the 6 second barrier stock. Top speed 145 mph. 0 to 100 mph in under 12 seconds. All stock.. ugly as sin but faster than the devil with roidal flareup. That car is quicker than a new 911 twin turbo.

Since 02 many importers have been underating their cars output just like the olden days.. any import sports car that has any hype bolstered around it will be underrated and conciderably faster than stated on specs. Vw honda subaru and mistu especially.

I keep hoping to be challenged by a WRX one day just so I can see how bad I will get beat! I've never even been in a car that quick before.........:Dou:

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

I have a friend in Omaha who absolutely abhors ricers. That said, he has an 88 Nissan Sentra 2 door. Not the fast back. No wings, no grounds effects, no fart can. He has twin turbos on this thing, alcohol injection, and just recently installed a Skyline AWD into it. Before the Skyline drive train install, he dynoed at 501 HP AT the wheels. His only real issue was getting a consistant launch and finding half shafts that will hold up. He was commonly running very low 11.0xx times and was simply a good launch away from the tens. That is the reason he went for the Skyline drivetrain. I haven't seen him in about a year, so I have no updates, but when I do, I will be all ears.

It would not embarass me to lose to this guy, for, in his words, I drive a racer, not a 'ricer.' Really great guy and one hell of a mechanic.

I had a guy in a "Blubyu" STi try and take me on a onramp near my home. I was having none of that. Of course I got the ricer flyby once we were up on the highway.

If I got beaten by a guy with a wing on my car... at least I don't have a wing on my car.

I have lost to a ricer at the track running low-mid 10's. But that was a stripped caged race car. I have not lost to a ricer that was also streetable. The quick street STI's and EVO's will get me out of the hole but when I hit second it is asta-la-vista baby.

Someone who gets one of those cars moving that fast usually puts money into the engine and electronics, not wings and coffe cans. That person is a gear-head, not a ricer... so no, I'd not be embarassed.

On the other hand, I've not lost to a fart-canned winged car with blinky lights, and my car is anything but fast.

    Darryl Roederer Life is good

I think several people here are missing the point on this one.

A RICER is someone who puts wings, blinkey lights, and a million watt stereo in an otherwise stock honda civic, and a TUNER is someone who gets a stock looking honda civic to pump out 400 hp.

Having said that, there are a few ricers who can actually tune their cars to run..... And there are a few tuners who like to "bling-bling" out their rides. But these individuals seem to be incredibly rare.

While I absolutely hate rice, I have nothing but respect for someone who can tune 2 litres to crank out numbers big enough to blow off a real muscle car in an honest to goodness race.

So, no.... I would not be embarrased.

    True!

I am not embarrased to lose to any truly faster car because no stock car (fart can, graphics, lights, sound and wing do not a racecar make) is going to beat the "T". That being said, the guys I do lose to have considerable time and monies in their cars as I do No matter what manufacturer's emblem is on them, there is always somebody quicker.

Also there are cars available off the showroom floor that are capable of running the times I run but they are not the cars that I assume we are talking about here. I always congradulate "anyone" who really runs better than I do.

If it was WRX or NOS equipped car then no. Anything else I would be pissed.

If someone is using NOS it's a not a fair race to begin with in my opinion so no biggie.

I never knew that.....I thought they all were one in the same. And I thought TUNER referred to the annoying loud stereo. :Dou:

I would not be embarrassed because I own more imports than I do domestics. Not because I don't like American cars, I love Buicks and I love my wagon, but as far as newer cars go I've not been a fan of domestics. Having lived in Japan for a few years and grown up around Datsuns I couldn't help it. They kept all the good cars for themselves and sent lesser models to the US. Slowly people are getting more and more goodies over from there and building some nasty creations. I myself have built a couple nasty creations and rocked plenty of ignorant people since I've moved back to the US with my imports. Yes I have spoilers on all of them and yes I'd be happy to embarrass anyone off their high horse, but it's true there's always someone faster. I'd consider none of my cars rice though, they've all been tastefully modded. My 1500lb Datsun is kicking out 285 rwhp, my 240SX is putting out about the same, my Toyota Cressida has an untouched 'JDM' engine and runs 13's in the quarter. Turns out now my 455 Sport Wagon is the slowest car now! They run great and are pretty reliable, but it does cost a heck of a lot more to fix them up compared to a Skylark.
