No re-assembly, mulling over re-clearing or just buffing. I think I am just gonna buff it for a LONG time. I'll make the trip to the paint supply store mid week for supplies, and hopefully have it done for the weekend. Then I'll start to put stuff back together.
And Tim... On the glass issue. You actually raised a question I (embarassingly) hadn't given a whole lot of thought to. Luckily I have a buddy that works at the local Safelite glass shop. I called him and this is what he says... Eurothane sealer is the only acceptable sealer for a modern car. The inside edges are painted in a special epoxy primer that is matched to the sealer used. Safelite only uses a brand called Seka, of which sealer costs about $5 per tube (1.5 tubes for a windshield) and a pint of the matched primer is $20 (enough for both front and back). However, if you use another product (ie. 3M) use thier epoxy primer. DO not mix brands of primer with different brands of sealer. So, problem solved. Since I'll be buying my new windshield from them anywho... that just makes it easier!!! Happy Buick... ing!
Lookin' more and more awsome......I LOVE that color. Paul Cassidy's SportWagon is that color (or similar) and I tried for about 20 min. to get a good picture.....Its Very difficult to photograph. While you have the glass out - hears something for you to toss around A Friend of mine has a couple of laser cutters / etchers .... this was a very crude first attempt with no good pictures or editing software to work with but it still came out decent. Anything you can think up or create (as an image file) is etchable Im REALLY glad you're doing this to a '69.....Im LOVING IT !!
Alan, yeah it is hard to get a picture that shows the true beauty of the color. No matter how hard I try it comes out looking too dark. Thanks for the encouragement, My wife is not too keen on 70-72's, but likes the lines of the 68/69 very well. I chose a 69 because without vent windows, it makes the window area look so seamless... sleek. I'm not 100% sure what (if anything) I am going to do with the glass, besides 35% tint. I like the originality of your idea though... I'll keep it in mind. Thanks again.
Sanding..................................................................................... And Sanding..................................................................................... And Sanding..................................................................................... And Sanding..................................................................................... And Buffing..................................................................................... And Buffing..................................................................................... And Buffing..................................................................................... Yup... Still Buffing!!! Lotta Orange Peel!
Sorry this is taking so long, seems the desert heat is playing havvoc on my buffing attempts. I keep getting hazing (or swirls) because I can't cool the metal enough to let the machine polish do it's stuff. I should have some in progress pics to post tomorrow. o No:
New pics Here are some in-progress pics, I am still buffing. (trying to get all the swirls out). Does anyone out there have a set of the plastic retainers that go behind 68/69 headlight bezels? The first bodyshop lost 4 of mine, and they don't seem to reproduce them. I am also looking for the headlight bezel screws, and a nicer backup light lens. If anyone has these things, or knows of someone who does, SELL EM OUT!!! please? Thanks
Looks Great! I have been following your posts from the begginning...very impressive job! That car looks great! You certainly do fine work. Anyway, with regards to the screws etc..., did you check MR G's? they make a ton of different screws and inserts.
