Sellers will take less than posted too. Example: a part you may want for $150 that a seller lists for $250 -- offer $150, maybe get it for $175, suddenly it wasn't unreasonable. And niche parts? Some rare part for a lower popularity / uncommon car? It can take a while to connect with the right / uncommon buyer, so bump-bump-bump it is. Personally, I have no idea why this thread was even started, but hey, to each his own.
I read it as someone's parts are out of the original poster's price range. The internet is used now a days to "round up the troops" to make you feel like you're not alone and that your opinion is common and more important.l than it actually is.
The payoff for some sellers is about the $money$...that's their prerogative. For others the payoff is the satisfaction of helping and edifying fellow Buick enthusiast in the hobby. And likewise, that's their choice too. Welcome to the planet earth...
100% agree. What’s the point? This is. I have bought parts that seemed super high priced, but either super rare, nos, original taken off when new. And hindsight turned out to be the right decision. Example: bought an original 1970 455 GS fan shroud that was taken off the car on day two. Owner made a ton of modifications including a larger fan. He put it up in his attic. Come 2001. He put it up for sale. I paid eleven hundred bucks for it. Some thought I was crazy. It is more than likely the nicest one in the world. And still is sitting in my climate controlled shop on the Reynolds car. There’s other examples
You read it wrong, this is about reasonable and fair market value, but it’s greed and gouging I find distasteful., and not just for myself but everyone. I don’t have a need for the herd to join me to feel secure.
Have you been making offers that get refused, or just posted prices in general? Not everyone’s situation is the same. Some may need the money. Some may need the room. I am not much of a bargainer - if I think the listed price is too high, my search continues. But if it’s something from the unobtainium parts bin…
Yes it is! And that’s the ONLY reason the world is the way it is today! Example, I make something, I WANT to make good money so I can be wealthy, the parts are selling to a retailer, they gotta raise the price ‘cause they’re paying a lot, the consumer paid a lot, so he asks for a raise, his employer has to raise his prices ‘cause his payroll increased, then on down the line little price increases caused by the greed of one person, then the person that started it all finds he’s not as wealthy as when he first raised his price cause costs have gone up EVERYWHERE! He’s paying more for raw materials, it’s a vicious circle!! I do the same, if someone needs a part or item I have, I price it fairly, it puts a couple bucks in my pocket for gas, cigs, and dog food, and the buyer is happy his ass don’t hurt! Years ago I sold a father/son project GS a GS air cleaner complete from a 455 for 150.00 They were happy, and the best part I felt good about it they were happy!
I generally put "Make offer" at the end of my for sale listings. I don't know if it will sell at the listed price or not. Also, I don't generally haggle on prices when buying. I close things that are out of my price range/comfort zone without another thought. If they have a reasonable price and I need it, I pay it. Most recently, there was a 350 pump to carb line. Didn't haggle a bit, just checked if it would work with an aftermarket intake. The best way to deal with overpriced parts is not to even comment, same as in life.
I agree, I never comment, my only purpose to this was to vent,it gets frustrating to me as I always peruse the parts wanted and click on things I might need only to find I have looked at the same parts over and over and laugh at the ridiculous price and also at the fact it’s been bumped 5-10 times over a year or more and wonder why that person can’t figure out he’s way out of line as to fair market value. I haggle and expect to be haggled on prices, it’s part of the game.
My first experiences here looking for parts was very positive. A few members sent me parts for free or close to it. That has set a precedent for how I will interact with good people in our hobby. I have acquired some decent parts over the last few years for sport and if I don’t use them will probably be donated or sold at a loss to a good person who can use them. Nothing against someone who does this for profit, as long as it stays civil in the correct forum
Parts are not selling as quickly and easily as they used to. Disposable income is becoming less common due to inflation. Shipping costs are way up as well. Prices will come back down it's just a matter of time.
Well the moderators done run a lot of people out of here over the last few years and with that went a lot of the buyers! I hope that they are really proud of themselves for ruining what was a great site. Keith
I have had nothing but positive experiences buying/ selling parts here, V8 is by far the best resource online by a mile. My comments are merely focused on the occasional item that’s posted a zillion times with an astronomical price.
Agree the past 3years has absolutely hammered me financially....I basically just give up trying to stay a float...let my truck go back to the bank...defaulted on a couple loans...nothing I'm proud of but had no choice...my credit was 805 4years ago......it's probably 505 now. Not spending the next 20yrs trying to just stay even with everyone....food..gas..housing..insurance up 25% ...the money just isn't there for most Americans anymore I don't believe prices will come down...once manufacturers and retailers see they can get X for Z...they aren't gonna settle for M again
The only one that I can think of was Yachtsman Bill. He actually left because the moderators felt that one of his posts was inappropriate. When they either edited it or dumped it (I don't recall), he picked up his bat and ball and went home. It's too bad, I enjoyed his posts.
