a guy in my PE class was tellin me about his truck, claims 406 small block, new rods, pistons, aluminum heads, headers, doesnt know the intake or carb or exhaust or rear end, but he claims 500hp to the rear wheels, and it runs 8.2 in the 1/8th, oh he also runs slicks, i called bs and he said well 8.2 is really fast, i saw trucks pulling the wheels off the ground and only running 5's and 6's, thats not much faster than me!..:Dou: 5's equate to about 8 in the quarter.. the guy just wont learn no matter how many times i tell him

Okay i have a guy at my work that has a 91 Chevy Beretta GTZ (180hp,160tq), he told me that he can burn an Integra gsr, and that he burned a 98 mustang GTthe other day. I called him on his bs, then he had the gaul to tell me that his car has 256hp. I printed out a spec list for every beretta ever made, and their 1/4 times...no way he ever beat a V8 stang with a 180 hp and a 15.6 time V6. that time was in 1991, brand new, I think 13 years later it would get a little worse, maybe a 16's. That is not a 14 that a gt statng can do...what a jacka$$

I saw that Mythbusters too. When I heard the story years ago, the guy welded them to the rear of his Nova and not the roof. Plus they used a bigger, heavier car. However, as the police records show no such thing happening I don't think it happened either.

Did you know if you use your cellphone while pumping gas, you could start a pump fire? :Brow:

    otter It'll be done someday.

Sitting in a bar one night waiting for my girlfriend to get off work I struck up a conversation with a guy next to me who owned a 1975 Lesabre 350-2 I figured he can't be to bad a guy as I was currently driving a 1969 Electra. At first he tells me about the fastest car he ever had A 1967 Cuda with a 440 hemi. He was runnin drugs for the mob and police couldn't catch him even with a helecopter. (Was that a 426 hemi bored or stroked to 440 cubes?) I tried to bring the conversation back to reality when he told me his rust bucket land yacht smog motored car was real fast. I asked if he thought it could take my 69 deuce and he said no problem. Let's see, I've got 80 more cubes with at least 2 more points of compression, no egr passages in my heads, 2 more barrels on my carb, with no energy absorbing bumpers or inner braces I was at least 500lbs lighter on the body, I had dual 2 1/2" exhaust he had single 2". His engine was completely stock and I had just rebuilt mine and installed a slightly used cam that I had bought from Dave Sanderhauf (I still love your 67 GS, even have an old magazine with it on the cover from 1989 -hope I didn't miss-spel your name too badly) only had one season of racing on it I believe it was 1 step down from a kenne-bell c118 cam. So I took him for a ride and shifted at 5000rpm and just about made him foul his pants. When I dropped him off he apologized and admitted he had no idea what a really fast car was mind you I street raced Dave's car one night and he pulled 2 city blocks on me in the blink of an eye. At that time he was running 12teens in the quarter. I can't comprehend how these kids think they're running 10s. I mean if a rear wheel drive car (in the low 12s-high 11s) can pull wheels off the ground with most of the weight up front then surely any import running 10s should be able to pull a wheelie in reverse with most of their weight over their drive wheels! Am I missing something here?

    Re: a Buick bs er

Ted, Would you believe that I bought a complete, solid 64 Riv with 2x4 carb 425, and a wood wheel for $200 from an old pothead. He told me the car had a bad trans, and he couldn't find one anywhere. He had parked it 6 years ago. I gadly gave over the 200 clams, called a flatbed, and hauled it to the house. Come to find out it was out of fluid and the guy was to brain dead to check it. I restored it and gave it to my father for his birthday (he has wanted one for a long time). My dad is still driving it on that "bad transmission" to this day, almost 5 years later. Now That was a steal.

    this is rich

    I gotta post one 2.

I was once told by a guy that he had a "really rare" 67 GTO with the fiberglass body. Upon further inquirey, it had a factory aluminum Hemi 427 with Mark IV ram air, a 4 speed, and a "rockcrusher" REAR END. I looked at him with a completely straight face and said, "you must have had the only one."

One more. Just a few months ago, a guy told me that his father had a really rare 44 caddilac convertable. Does that strike anyone as a little impossible, since GM didn't produce any cars during the great WWII? In fact, I beleive (correct me if I am wrong) that GM produced Sherman tanks, and aircraft parts from 42-45. I asked him if it was OD green:bglasses:

I went down to the local scrapyard, (looking for a 4 bbl intake for a SBC motor), and this guy at the counter says that he doesn't have any intakes or parts like that . . . this guy pissed me off so bad!

What kind of scrapyard does not have a SBC intake? Likewise, they said that they don't have any parts for cars like I have (76 Camaro). No parts for a second gen. camaro? This guy is stupid!:Dou:

on war time cars... I dunno about American makes but British companies were still turning out a very limited number of cars during WW2 to be used as military staff cars. I once went to look at a Humber Hawk (like Montgomery of the Desert Rats fame had) which was for sale and that was a '42 or '43. British civilian production ended in '39.

best guess was that the one I saw was built for some government use.

Shame it was too rusted for me to be able to restore at the time.
