down where I go to school it's the K-mart that they flock to. There's the ricers with the cobbed together cars, headlights that don't even open all the way, and a coffee can "exhaust system". Then there's the rednecks that show up in their pickups with a horrible exhaust and lifted, but they NEVER take them off road and get dirty. It's so annoying, they rev their engines, and most don't even have the power to chirp the tires. :TU:

some kid in highschool had a mid 80's chevy truck with a 305 in it that he had "built," him and his buddies had appearently done a lot of street racing in it, and "stomped vettes" quite often. The guy claimed it would go 0-80 in 2.5 seconds. That's just damned fast! Appearently it ran 13's at the 1/4mile strip about an hour from here... must have slowed back down to 15 mph after hitting 80? Anyways, turns out that said vettes were mid 80s models, you know the mid 15's kind... and when I was working at pepboys before I enlisted, I met a girl that was appearently his girlfriend, and she said that he had a best run in the high 14s at the 1/4 mi strip. Ran into one of his buddies and got him to admit he knew that it was slow...

another one I liked was a guy with a 99 or so GTP grand prix that was modified, said he could run high 8's in the 1/8th (only drag strip within an hour's drive and it's higher quality than the 1/4th an hour away...) with his 16's on instead of his 19's. Guy had a cam, full exhaust, pulley, and a pcm.. best run was around 10.80 on his 19's, he tried to claim that the weather was hindering his car....my stock 02 regal GS ran a 10.20 with my no launching self driving it, practically the same car.... man them rims make such a big difference!

We have a couple of GTP's in the Pontiac club I belong to that run 11 second quarters. They are also very good at changing transmissions.

I know quite a bit about the L67 powered W bodies, I was into those before I got my 70 skylark. There are some in the 10s, and I think the one from intense might be in the 9s now, not sure... it's real easy to put a gtp/regal gs into the 12's, pulley, intercooler, rockers, full exhaust, CAI, pcm, injectors and plugs. problem is the stock tranny cant take it for long. Im talkin 1/8th mile for this guy with his gtp. He claimed he was running 8's with 16" rims, but he barely got out of the 11's, he tried blaming it on the heat, but my FACTORY regal was outperforming his fairly modded car.. his friend was running mid-high 8s in his gtp, but he had quite a bit more done to his car and a smaller SC pulley. anyways, sorry for OT.. L67 Wbodies are a pita to launch btw.

A lot of people think their cars are faster than they actually are. Then there are people who don't believe your vehicle is as fast as it is. I have people tell me daily that no way my truck runs 14.5s. I have the slips to prove it. A guy I used to work with thinks his stock Scion runs 13s. He wont ever show up at the track though...

I just let them talk, who cares

iknowthis is about 4 pages ago, but my brother has an 89 dodge colt gt and it has put down 401.5 horsepower on 100 octane race gas. it will spin the tires in 4th at 75, and it has a better power to weight ratio than a viper. so the 320 at the wheels doesnt sound like that much.

but anyway this dick i work with races a bomber dirttracker an no matter what, in every race, he qualifies near the back, makes it to 2nd then gets spun out.... but his car is so fast! (in real life my 72 riv running on 6 like it is can take it)

An acquaintance of mine has a Scion TC. He's done a few slight modifications to the engine. He has around 275 HP (at the crank). He seems to think he can beat a friend of mine in a straight line race. My friend has 97 Mustang Cobra. My friend has a race trans. and clutch in it, and almost twice the power. This acquaintance of mine thinks he can win because his car is "so much lighter."

Give me a break. No hardly-modified rice-ball is going to wipe out a souped-up Cobra in a straight-line race.

Welllllllll....... never say never.... I remember beating a 57 ford that had the thunderbird special with 2x4s on it with my moms 56 Buick super....... the ford just sat there and spun while the old super hooked up and set sail..... by the time he hooked up , I had laid such a hole shot on him that he couldnt catch me.....

If you were at the strip and a Scion pulled up next to a Cobra, which would you bet on?

I'd vote on the Cobra. But you never know, I've beat an 11 second turbo tuner. I don't know what he was doing but I stomped him one race. He ran 11s before and after he raced me. Stuff happens.
