Congratulations Jim Spetzman! Jim's 69 Super Bee 440 SixPack has just laid down the FIRST ever CERTIFIED STOCK 11 second pass! :beer 11.98 at 114.46 to be exact! At Mid-Michigan Dragway's Wednesday night event, a bunch of the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag contenders got together for a test and tune. Jim shoed the car to several 12.07 - 12.08 passes at 113.2, reporting that a marginal track surface caused tire spin all through 2nd gear. Jim handed the keys to Scott Teiman, who is 50 pounds lighter than big ol' Jim. Not being as familiar with the car, Scotts 60 foot was off of what Jim normally runs, but despite massive tire spin, he made history with a certified 11.984 at 114.46.The Super Bee was torn down for the certification process yesterday, and quarantined at the certification site until it was towed directly to the track. This year the certification process included the usual measurement of bore, stroke, chamber cc's and compression, valve size and angles, checking ports and castings, measuring the cam, etc. Plus the certification process now also includes sticking a bore scope down into the crankcase to look at the rods, pistons and crankshaft to check for light weight components; looking through the entire the car with a magnet checking for lightened or missing components. Of course the Super Bee passed with flying colors! :TU: Those of us who know Jim had no doubt that the car could pass any tech procedure that can be devised. There is no substitute for being legal, and that is the kind of guy that Jim is. Hopefully the track will be better prepped for the main event , and Jim can drive the 'Bee to another 11 himself. Congrats again Jim, you deserve it!
Way to go JIM! :beer It was only a matter of time before it happend and it is well deserved.. Was Jeff`s Maxie running? It would be something if the next certified car to go 11`s was also a Mopar. :3gears:
For that special occasion.......... LUTEFISK for everyone!!!! Seriously...........couldn't happen to a more deserving competitor!!! Hopefully Jim S. can repeat during the PSMCDR to make it really official!!! Any word on Jim J's Vette??? Could we have TWO 11 second certifieds on the track Friday and Saturday?!?!? That would be OUTSTANDING!! :TU:
Frank, from what I have heard, Jimmy will NOT be certifying the Vette. I looks like the only cars to show for certification are Jims and Scott Petersons Max Wedge.
way to go i knew when i saw it run at kil-kare in 90% humidity and 95o temps it would only take stantons cool air to run into the 11's,congrats. PS is it for sale now?
Joel's been watching too much CourtTV ........ I believe the dude with the Max Wedge is, in fact, Jeff Peterson ......
As far as I'm concerned, JJ had the first 11 second in a certified car. Too bad he broke last year, I saw him run at Atlanta a month later and it wasn't just barely in the 11's, it was DEEP in the 11's. Don't blame him for not wanting to tear down and certify again this year. So...............if Peter runs an 11 this weekend in the COPO is that another 11 second run in a certified car? He didn't certify this year. Does this mean that records are only good in the same year they certified? :Brow: :Brow: Rules, rules? We don' need no steenkin rules! :bglasses: :bglasses: I had planned to certify the Ramrod, but it'sd been such a problem child, that I can't see certifying a pig. May not be a pig anymore, though...... :Brow: :Brow:
man i love those PSMCD. we've ran our 74 z28 there a few times. of all the drag racing we've done--dad and i agree PSMCD is more fun than any of it!
Dave, I don't mean to take anything away from the accomplishments of Pete and JJ, their performance has been outstanding. Dan has stated that the certification is good for that one event only, and with good reason. There is a huge difference in eyes of the skeptical public, who has a hard time believing what these cars are capable of in Pure Stock trim, between a car that certifies and goes right out and runs the number, and cars that run the number months or years after certifying. Jims deal PROVES the point, the delayed performances are open to speculation by the skeptics.
Excellent Excellent Job. It will be interesting to see if Bob has an answer to Jim's car. Also glad to know Scott is driving my HO T/A tommorow and Saturday. Hey Scott just get it in the 12's this year. Mark
Absolutely right, Brian. Seems to me a yellow FAST car was the first in the 10's at a T N T also. Don't think you can count the run at TNT the other night. Needs to be done at the event directly after the certification, right?
