I think its a 660 case. Yeah, im very detail oriented about this stuff. Even with the beater, I sweated the details on that car too

Only a few bolts hold that body to the frame....

Just wait till I put lower ball joints in it! I'll have to suppress my urge to rip the whole front end off it!

Does it need lower ball joints? If so, which ones will you use that aren't made in China?

    Hi Larry

The spare ball joints which I bought are AC Delco and it states on the package that they are made in USA.

I'm told a package arrived on your front porch earlier this afternoon.

    Thanks Brett!

No pictures, but the driveshaft was painted rather poorly. Who ever did it actually put a purple and black stripe on it... but I digress...I stripped the driveshaft of all the silver paint. What a mess! It came out good though. The shaft actually looks good stripped. Not pitted at all. Just surface rust. While its out, im going to throw a new set of u joints in it.

    Jason,

Your restraint to not go over the cliff on this project and do a full blown restoration is admirable. I've tried the route you are taking now several times, but in the end, the cars I got invloved with were fully restored and consequently rarely driven. Driving our cars, and not just looking at them in a garage is where the real joy is.

Driveshaft is 90% cleaned up and degreased. I pressed the old joints out too.

You can see some areas of the driveshaft are still clean, bare steel. You can even see the bluing from the weld.. There must of been grease protecting these areas. You csn also see the remnants of the silver paint

    Yoke is in good shape

You can get an idea of its overall nice shape. Just a light coating of surface rust

I made a 5' long tube with 4" PVC and a cap at the bottom, with a screw on lid at the top. Put driveshaft in, fill with evaporust. Come back two days later and it's completely clean.

Jason, great work. Just curious as my OCD is very similar but didn’t the “probably not a good idea” alarm go off leaning the driveshaft against door next to car, first thing I thought of when I seen pic..lol
