Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Why is the black lid a faux pas?

Based on build date should it be a clear top/lid?

FWIW, the red Stage 1 convertible only bid to 70k.

You have to consider that during a parts change-over that not all parts would be changed on the same day...or week. That would depend on old stock which would used up before the new parts.

My car is a transition car - last week of December.

Clear lid, plastic radiator cover and flat lenses. I've never seen any other variations when I comes to transition cars but that doesn't mean it's wrong.

    Just an observation.

Are the transition dates and items fairly well documented?

I know that several of the '68 Firebird transition issues have been documented but it has required dozens of responses.

Brett, my '70 was built 3rd week of Jan./70 and still has the plastic rad cover.

Mine isn't a stage 1 but I'm partial to the Bamboo Cream Black interior & black top.

According to the write-up it is.
Based on the pointed lenses, it should have a clear overflow top & plastic radiator top. The changeover of these 3 parts however did not occur simultaneously, but occurred as stock was used up so was a very small window where you could have a mix. I know of two Stage 1's that were invoiced, and so I assume assembled on or about the same day (01/04/70 IIRC could've been different shifts) and one had pointed lenses and clear overflow and the other (Brett's) had flat lenses and clear overflow so I'd assume that was the 1st switch, and then based on your car (Korey?), apparently the plastic rad. cover was later in the month, but there's nothing to say that somewhere in Jan. a tote of the early parts wasn't found and used.

Brad/Duane, etc. have said that in judging, points wouldn't be deducted for any of those 3 parts if the car was assembled within a reasonable time frame of the known switchover.

When you say "built," is that the Fisher Body date (trim tag) or the date it was assembled (POBF or invoice date)?

I think for the most part, all sold well with the exception of the Stage II race car and the Proto-type. Other than that, I think most would think the red 70 vert Stage 1 should have went higher, but as I say over and over, bench seat, column shift and white walls kill any appeal, and the price!

Well, if it had a black interior and black vinyl top, I would have told you not to bother. Just negotiate the price way down and then send the owner my way so I can close the deal. Then I could pair it with my bamboo cream, black interior, black top, GS 455 convertible project and much as I've done with my '68 Firebirds, I could have a matched pair. You didn't mention whether it was a 4 speed or not. But seriously, I would say that the one in Indy looked good and sold for a decent but not spectacular price. There is a smaller market for the car given its color, but if you aren't looking for an immediate flip you should do okay.
