    Adam,

If you can paint a car, you certainly can install a vinyl top yourself. They are actually pretty easy to do. The correct adhesive is what is really required, and that is this stuff

    http://www.dap.com/dap-products-ph/weldwood-landau-top-trim-high-heat-resistant-contact-cement/

This is what the pros uses, I have installed half a dozen tops on 70-72 GS's with it, and a whole bunch of headliners too. I bought a gallon of it about 4 years ago, and still have most of it, and it's still good.

    Great Job so far BTW..

Car has passed though a few hands and has changed a lot since I sold it, but I had tri-city plating co elizabethton, tn do both bumpers in 2007. The rear bumper has some hammer marks inside were they had to straighten, so if those marks are there, then it's the original bumpers. Looks great.

I never tried to stop really fast, but I thought the car stopped OK. The pedal was harder than it should have been for a power brake car though.

Same bumpers...they are holding up great. There is a little bit of rust popping below the rear license plate, but it's minimal.

The car stops ok, but I can't lock them up. Like it has the wrong size rod in it or something. Dunno...will dig in once I finish body stuff.

3.55 posi ready to bolt in! I also bought a Delco stamped booster along with a master cylinder so I can get to the bottom of this brake issue. Vinyl top is scheduled to go on in 2 weeks [IMG]

Car is coming along really good and fast. Might need to plan a Buick get together sometime when I don't have to work.

Adam, I'm just now seeing this.... took a break from things and am just now finding the time to log in and read stuff. How's it going? Any parts you still need? (this threads huge so I haven't read it all yet).

Let me know if you want to get the cars out together :)

Jim, thanks! I think I am going to shoot for next year BG.

Ryan, fix that carb and we will cruise!

I hung the rear tonight...got the brakes, springs, shocks, and control arms connected...the. Stripped one of the ends of the U-bolts that hold the driveshaft on. Packed it in for the night.[IMG]

She gonna move out with the 355 gear man, and there is a PVC pipe with a moulding on the way to you finally, between trying to run my shop and getting the shop and myself ready for the Vocational school, I have let a few things slip but it's headed your way, it still has the stud in the end also.

I just installed the nice shiny new Delco Moraine power brake booster I got from some discount house on ebay, and it has a vacuum leak. The crappy looking one I bought from Auto Zone works just fine. I hope I can get an exchange...I know I can get my money back...but I want the look of the delco booster. GRRR

My intent was to get the brakes fixed this morning...yeah.

After finding out yesterday that the "new" Delco booster was bad out of the box, I installed the ugly Auto Zone one I bought initially. I have power brakes now, but the pedal is still crap, and I can't lock the brakes up. I found out that I need a hold-off valve at the MC for the 70 model disc brake cars. Great, another $100 bill to inline tube...and 3 more days lost.

Once I got that all figured out, the carburetor decided to start acting up. Something must have been stuck in the needle/seat, since it was loading up at idle. Choke was wide open. So I pulled the carb off and cleaned it out. Threw it back on, and we are back in business. Took it for a spin with the new 3.55 posi. WOW this thing is a different animal. It rips the tires off when it hits 2nd gear. And this is a bone stock 72 big block:Brow:

After my joy ride, I thought it was necessary to keep the momentum going by continuing body work on the hood and trunk. I stripped the trunk lid and epoxied it. Then hosed the hood and trunk with high build primer. Once that was done, I started blocking the hood. Ohhhh buddy this thing is a mess. I thought I had it close when I had initially hit it with mud. It's close, but it needs a blanket coat of slick sand. I ran a guide coat on the initial block and it looks like the foothills of the Appalachians. I'll get it as close as I can, but I'm starting to lose hope with this hood.

Although I am definitely not a fan of what vinyl tops do to a car, I don't think it will ever see the weather that these cars would see when they were in regular service. AND the factory never finished the roof section body work when the tops were installed.

I hosed some leftover black paint and clear from another project on the top today to seal the metal before the vinyl top goes on. The car is supposed to go to the top guy in a week, but I don't think the hood or trunk will be done yet. I am hoping I can take it to him and park it inside the shop. Or it will have to wait until I finish body work.
