That's a 3.23 you have there. Not a whole lot of difference to go 3.42. I would just put a posi unit in it, along with bearings and seals, and save your money on the gears.

    Thanks.
I would except the gear seam to have a bind in them. They are not turning freely.
Also there was a lot of crud in there. For my peace of mind, i'll upgrade it.

Well i was cleaning up the original 455 that came in the car and getting all the numbers down for my records today before i send it out for a build.
All the number are correct as to be expected. Vin#41H166319 stamped matches the vin on the car, TR -132 stamped checked, 1231738 stamped at the back of the block makes it an early '71 block. But what got me was when i checked the Carb which is on the '70 455 in the car.

Now this car has been in the family its entire life and the only thing missing is the original 10 bolt 8.5 because of my young stupidity to swap in a posi...and the 455 emblem under the GS on the front fender ( Dad said "the friend that was repainting the car lost them")...
I had the carb rebuild in 2003 when i lived on Long Island and made sure i wrote down those numbers when i gave the guy the carb. (this is before i knew what any of the ID# meant)..Just wanted to make sure i got my Carb back.

Edit: Turn out to be a GM service replacement. date code 12 week of 1978. Still a great find for me.
