    Dear Steve (CJ Fordman)
I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench in the fan, but I think it's time someone should. I myself have always thought that two events in one summer is just too many. Now again someone wants to try a third one. With all these Pure Stock events, they just end up pulling attendance from each other. I've been a dedicated spectator over the years for the Stanton race( The Mother Event) and the Martin race(Fast Cars Race). It seems like these people kill themselves to try and put an event on, and they really don't need the extra competition. Look you only have one Woodward Dream Cruise, Mopar Nat's, St. Ignace, Good Guy's, GS Nationals etc, etc, etcccccc, you know what I mean. So why do we think we need more than one Pure Stock Race. I believe the only reason the Martin race was started was that the Fast Cars didn't comply with the rules from the Pure Stock Musclecar Drag Race, and they weren't going to change their cars to comply with rules. And thank god for the pure stockers at the Martin race, because if not for their attendance, I don't think they would even be able to afford to put a race on. I know that it's alot of fun to race our cars, but everyone really needs to just take a minute and think about this. It's not cheap to do this kind of racing. The cost of setting your car up to comply with the rules, hotel, fuel, food and what ever other obsticles that might pop up can only add up to $$$$$$$. I personnally would rather see the other two races grow in attendance before someone starts a third one. I like going to an event where there's a 100 plus cars in the staging lanes.

    Al,
You're kinda late with the wet towel. He spent two months trying to get it set up, has it done and you don't like it. OK, don't go! The folks who want to race or can't make it to Stanton or Martin will be there.

mrgsx70 .I enjoy racing there is a big gap between Martin and Stanton time wise.I thought it would be nice to have an event between.I asked for the advice and wanted the blessing of Dan Jensen before I ever posted on here about the Muncie race. If he would have said that he wished I not try and do this I never would have started it. I am happy to have known Dan since 1988 first meeting him in Bowling Green Ky at a NMCA event. I raced in the NMCA at almost every race from then until 1993 even becoming NMCA pure stock world champion. That was 4 races a year often. Even now I would race 10 times a year if I could. I am not trying to step on toes or out do anybody . If 50-75 cars come the first year I will be happy but I hope for more to show.I am not making a cent on this deal I am just trying to make a fun event for other people to come out to and enjoy as much as I will.If you dont want to come out then don't ,but don't badmouth and run down something that is done for people that want to race as often as I do or can't make other events .The other events you listed don't personaly excite me but if thats your thing go to them. Yes it is not cheap to race often but many people can and will spend the money to do so. I don't want to make any enemys I just want to have fun running hard .:3gears:

Re: Any interest in a PSMCDR style race in July or Aug

My hats off to you Steve. The past has shown that a mid summer race has beaten up the promoter financially. It just has been tough on the guy that has stuck his nose out to put up the event. I think that people don't attend because the heat of the summer, vacations, and the obvious Stanton.

In saying that, if I can make it I'll be there! IN is a really nice state in the summer. I can dig it.

Hey Al, we already do have two MI events that draw 100 cars.... but a most of the guys are from MI .....

which means there have go to be a lot of car in IL and IN and OH who may be unwilling to travel all the way to MI but who may be willing to race.

There are now about 6 FAST events on the East Coast, but Martin has not suffered, in fact, there are now more guys than ever coming to MI from that area..... I doubt that many racers will cross Martin or Stanton off their event list because a new event is closer....but I do think guys who race at Muncie might be adding the other events after getting to race without having to travel first......

Everyone thats wants to show as legal pure stock car is welcome and any F.A.S.T guys that want to show are also welcome.I will gladly pass out fliers for the Martin and Stanton races for the guys and get their races talked about and let the guys that haven't shown up to the Michigan events know what they are missing.I will do my best to show up and participate at both events in Mich myself:3gears: .

I appreciate the effort Steve has made to get another race going.
I would rather drag race than go to the Woodward Dream Cruise.

I will make every effort to show up at the Muncie race and have some fun with Steve and the rest of the participants.

I'm thinking Donny is correct. everytime you expose people to this you pick up converts. I have a friend who has bracket raced a big block Chevelle for a number of years. I showed him the article (MCE) on Stanton. Now they're busy trying to find all the original stuff they took off the car 20 years ago. You can see where that's going. It may not grow a ton the first year, but the people who go, will tell their buddys and they'll come the second year etc. etc.
If you ask the old timers, the first couple of years Stanton drew very few cars. I was there in '99 or 2000, doubt if there was 50 cars. Last year we had 136. It went from one race at a small track in the middle of the Michigan woods to 6 or 8 races per year and is still growing. Muncie can't do anything but help.:TU:

There were about 20 or so cars at Stanton in '95 and '96. If someone has coreect numbers please post.

Dan and Bob threw out the mandate, no improved participation, no race.

'97 there were 80 cars with growth an average of 110 or so from '98 to '06

Including 96 or so cars three days after September 11th. I was impressed.

I think Big Al is somewhat correct. While I don't believe one race siphons off another, I do believe that only a core group will make more than two races a year. If the event happens, stick with the same Bat time same Bat station for a while to see it works out.

Oh yea, get those Ohio boys to recruite more!

when Greg Jones had the event at Kil-Kare, we went to the somerset cruise in Kentucky and I think the only car that came up from that was a B5 blue 340 Cuda. Its hard to advertise and convince newbys to come out and flog on their pride and joy for a weekend, I talk to people every year and try to get them to go to the events. I have noticed that most of the guys I have talked too are interested, but end up ditching the race at the last minute.
