Mark yah it's frustrating - No we are not ONLY picking on you.

It's just you guys do it and you can't shut up about it!!! You go to these other web sites and flap your gums about every thing you do and then come back to this one and claim to wear white gloves and a NUN CAP!!!
    It's insulting!!

Your own friends rat you out- shocks,cams,transmissions-blah blah blah bla blah. YOU ARE YOUR OWN WORST ENEMY. How many times does DAN have to slap the back of your head???:spank: :spank:

Mark I don't assume your cheating, I read it everywear first hand - I don't hate you. You've always been super nice. Your brother is probably one of the nicest guys I've ever meet. I even like the whole PONTIAC TRIBE. They're COMPETITIVE !!!

Glasgo- I know they're fast ! Goodman- Mino- they have run them for years I was there in the begining at MILAN.
But 470 hp on the dyno!!!

Tim if you actually have read the post I have made which are on only one other forum. Then you would know that I have stated that we can make those changes for those who are not going to race or build a certified style car. I have also noted several times on the other forum that I do not use the cams we have discussed there in my own cars that I race. Excluding the Boss 302 which I had ABSOLUTELY no choice in as there are zero replacement cams for it. And when we did that cam we made sure it was a precisely ground to the NOS cam we were aloud to borrow as conceivably possible right down to factory center lines. Which was noted in the article on the motor.

My cars I race as stated here and on the PY forum run the Factory Melling replacement cams. Do other cars run the JW cams, yes they do. But they are not my Judge. Plus if you want one of the cams to look at ask. I can have one for you in a few days for review.

Shocks? Were did that come from. Again look under the Judge and the Boss next time. NOS on the Boss and the ones the Judge came from the factory with what reside there. Ask or look next time. I have never discussed shocks other than 50/50 being the only legal alternative.

Trans and I did what to make my unrebuilt M21 in the Judge or the unrebuilt Top loader in the Boss different? Or the M22 in the T/A Scott sometimes drives? Check the shocks on the that baby out also.

Trans Larry did offer to test a trans for Dan at Martin so Dan could make a Judgement call if they worked or not and how to address the problem if it worked. Larry did it because he knew that after the race Bruno and I were taking it over for our FAST project so it would be no pain to his wallet other than the time it took to swap the trans' around. And Bruno and I proudly have possesion of said trans. Again no one tried to keep it seceret as it was an open test for Dan. If there was something to hide we would not have told everyone about it.

Plus Terry and the FAST crew knew the score on it also. Everyone was ok with the test.

Again ask and you could have checked it out like many others asked and were told and shown.

I know Mark , it's wrong of me to even think you would ever insult the integrity of the sport buy running a cam you worked on for several years and 6 generations (versions).
As for talking, we would be here all day clicking on links. Besides I would have to buy Rob Clary lunch for all his time posting links for me since I'm not so computer savy.:Dou:

I don't want to see people run off either, It's already hurting us! I've recruited people for years, Telling them how great PURE STOCK is . They don't want to run anymore because they won't be competitive.

Brian and I have a friend that has a true ram air Bird ,been trying to get him to bring it. It's a low milage never been apart manual trans car. All original !!
Maybe you could tell him which parts to bring to the race and the tribe could put there expert super tune on it. Take him under the Pontiac wing, use him as a start to finish of the race dyno session . Show use all how Pontiac was oppressed by the corperate man as the ultimate car.

As for harbouring feelings of guilt, No I've always brought extra parts just for possible tear downs. Matter of fact the other half of the PURE STOCK drags lives right around the corner (BOB BODEN) .He's always invited to stopp by and inspect any and all my stuff. I don't think it would hurt to have him stand over my shoulder during assembly ..

Scott and Dan do amazing work!!! I have always been in aww..
Call the bird what it is- a freak of nature...

    Just MY little rant.

Tim I do not race a car that would use the cam your talking about. My Judge runs an 041 can not a 068. Distintcly different.

I take the integrity more seriously than nearly anyone can.

And you said you read the posts but by your comments you clearly have not. If you are going to comment on posts you have not or do not want to click to then I think it is wholely unfair for you to comment on.

I am happy to help anyone in any brand if I can. BTW way Bob has been to several of the dyno sessions of my motors and seen them apart many times. Even helped tune them.

I will tell you what if anyone wants to help I would glady let everyone reveiw any of my motors, oil pan off, heads off, cam in hand etc.

I'll even give you my shocks.

Not that i want to get anybody fired up,but the obvious question has not been answered. What did this car run? I think people that say they wont race because they are intimadated by the faster cars, are just using that as an excuse not to race, and are only hurting themselves. As i have said before,i have ran several cars from the 12,s to the 14,s,and each was equally enjoyable. We are still a very small group, and dissention will do no good for any body involved.

it's run faster than other Pure Stock Pontiac's on it's first time out last Wednesday at Stanton. We're still trying to work out all of the bugs, there's a few. The goal for this car was to build the fastest legal Pure Stock combination Pontiac that we could. In our opinion we thought that would be a 68 RA2 Column shift automatic Firebird. The motor is built to take advantage of all of the NHRA specd tolerances, compression 12.05, Cubes 414 .. It has a Stock blueprinted cam, 1.50 rockers... I would have no problem having anyone verify these numbers/components at the track in Sept.

Please Keep in mind that I'm new to this as I've been building Show cars for a while and kinda got tired of building cars I couldn't drive.

If a 70 RA4 Judge has run 12.30's in the same 2000Ft air and our Firebrid is ~400 Lbs Lighter and has a bit more HP or Torque, what would you expect it to run ? We hope to put it all togehter for the race in September and we'll see....

I can infer what's going on here because I met the owner at the GTO Nats when he was with Scott, as his/their car won Best of Show as far as I know.

I can see this scenario: Scott was restoring his car, so he asked about the PS event due to Scott's involvement. As the relationship develops (when Scott restores a car, it's a relationship), the owner wants Scott to work on another project for the PS event.

So maybe they found a cherry car, found all the parts they needed, and now they have a cool vehicle to throw into the mix.

The great thing about the PS event is that it has made people get creative and challenge themselves (and others) in finding a combo and seeing what it can do. So I don't understand why someone can come with a cheapo Chevelle with a 350/300 and no one bats an eye, yet someone trying his darndest to be prepared for the race gets flack? Isn't this supposed to be about fun? Or is there something I'm missing?

It's now a Meridian Turquoise, with a Black Deluxe Interior 1968 Firebird. It was a Mayfair Maze car before we changed the color.

Meridian Turquoise sounds like my kind of color!  Wonder if that's the same as the Ocean Turquoise on my car? I think Chevy called it Aegean Aqua. Also think all Buicks in 1968 may have nott offered it. They were all still brown.....except for Roberta's car.

There was a root beer colored early Firebird at York last year that was gorgeous and pretty quick. Think he left early with a problem. Possibly from the Pittsburgh area. Anybody know that car?

Rick, welcome aboard. I've seen several of the other beautiful poncho's you have that Scott has restored. In fact, I'm currently reading the HPP with your lucerne blue RAIV T/A on the cover (I'm a little behind in my magazines I know). Looking forward to seeing the bird at Stanton.

and if anyone wants to start a collection for me so I can drop off my GT-37 at Scott's I'm all for it

Rick, welcome to the pure stock group!! You will find that this will be the best car show that just happens to be held at the drag strip, or as my buddies call it "THE SLOW DRAGS". How come nobody builds 4 speeds anymore?

Hi Rick and welcome to the world's greatest way to showcase a musclecar. Pure stock drag racing brings together a great group of people dedicated to the preservation of the passion we all share for this hobby. I for one, am excited that we're converting more people from the "show field" to "trackside".

Safe to say that "musclecar showdown" got the ball rolling back in the 80's and the efforts of Dan, Bob and others have brought the group forward to the biggest car party I've ever been to.

My hero back in the day was Jim Mino.(As a matter of fact, you're still my hero today,Jim) His high revin', speed shiftin',hemi huntin' little Firebird came under intense scrutiny by all challengers as to the legitimacy of its originality and conformity to the rules. He proved the 68 Firebird as a "king of all Pontiacs" back then as you're trying to reaffirm today. Was he first in the 12's? It wasn't long ago that these numbers seemed improbable and subject to much speculation as they are today as we all try to break new barriers with brands other than Chevrolet and Chrysler.

My hats off to you and Scott for taking the challenge seriously as you are and trying to raise the bar that keeps interest in this sport/hobby growing even through tough economic times.

A few cars have been in the 11's. It'll be interesting to see how many ride into this lofty territory in the next little while.

    Cheers and Good Luck!

    Bruno

It was lots of fun but we're still trying to figure out the fuel delivery issue at the top end. It doesn't pull like the GTO at the big end. Best pass of the weekend was the first pass Saturday morning with no heat in it at all. Just fired it and headed for the lanes. 12.45 at 110mph.

Its a great bracket car though.............it'll run 12.58 three times in a row.

Time trialed against my son all weekend and just loved showing him a few .007's and 8's even if he beat me a few times at the big end.
