Bruce, this is EXACTLY what we have done already, except your Pro 1 designation we called Super Pro.

no, my idea is 3 classes

Super Pro 11.49 and quicker (boxes allowed)
Pro 1 11.49 and quicker (no boxes)
Pro 2 11.50 and slower (no boxes)

might get a more even spread this way.....

Bruce you did hit the nail on the head. For the first year as I mentioned a million times before, we had no solid clue on turnout so we consolidated things. If, or I should say I hope we have a huge turnout, if so then for next year no doubt we will have to look into adding additional race classes such as something similar as what you have above.

Now to answer some other question....again:Dou:

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 11th: Regular QC night racing program not part of BPG event but good for early birds arriving for the BPG event.

THURSDAY AUGUST 12th: gates open at 9am to vendors only. 11 am general gates open. Noon to 5 pm Test and tune session.

FRIDAY AUGUST 13th: gates open at 9 am, 9am to noon vendor set-up continues. Noon to 5 pm test and tune. 5 pm to 5:30 pm track prep. 5:30 pm to 9 pm TSO, TSM, GSM qualifying. Modified Production runoffs and test and tune. 5:30 pm Gamblers Race, $25 entry, winner splits proceeds with BPG.

SATURDAY AUGUST 14th: gate open 8 am. 9 am to 3 pm all Buick car show. 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Resto Clinic Seminar featuring unrestored 1971 GSX and 1970 GSX, held by Duane Heckman.
4 pm car show awards. 5 pm racing starts with TSO, TSM, GSM finals, Super 8 and Quick 16 qualifying (2 passes). Test and tune racing until TSO, TSM , GSM and qualifying classes completes.

YES TO ALL GSM, TSO, TSM, YOU CAN ALSO RACE IN SUNDAYS RACE PROGRAM. THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE ARE RUNNING YOUR PROGRAM ON SATURDAY NIGHT, TO GIVE YOU TWO SHOTS IF YOU DESIRE. IF YOU WANT THEN ALSO OBTAIN ADDITIONAL TECH CARD AND QUALIFY FOR THE Q-16 OR/AND Q-8 IF DESIRED OR JUST OBTAIN A TECH CARD AND RUN IN EITHER IN THE SUPER PRO OR PRO CLASS ON SUNDAY.

SUNDAY AUGUST 15th: gates open at 7:30. 8 am Church service held. 8:45 am drivers meeting at base of tower (strongly advised to attend), followed by lane calling. 9 am 1 or 2 qualifying rounds. 12:30 pm approximately eliminations.

NOTE: There will also be a ladies Cancer Fund Bracket race held on Sunday morning prior to eliminations.

ALSO: I WILL HAVE ALL THE RACE RULES AND SCHEDULING POSTED AT THE TRACK AND AT THE HOST HOTEL.

Hopefully this info helps. And yes...should have, could have, would have, but these are the rules and schedule that has been set based on a years worth of internet poles, questions to BPG members and practical discussions, emails and letters to us. All rules are subject to change for next years event if change is needed to better the event.

Have a safe trip, hope to see you all there! :TU:

I IKNOW I SHOULD PROBABLY STAY OUT OF THIS CONVERSATION BUT MIGHT I SUGGEST TWO BRACKETS ONE WITH ELECTRONICS ONE WITHOUT WITH NO LIMIT.IF I CHOOSE TO RUN A SLOW CAR WITH A BOX IT SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN SUPER PRO BUT THE CHANCES OF ANYONE DOING THIS IS UNLIKELY.THEN SEE HOW IT GOES THIS YEAR WHEN YOU HAVE THE DATA TO BACK UP YOUR DECISION YOU CAN CHANGE IT FOR NEXT YEAR.DOUG,THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE TO A FAST CAR AGAINST A SLOW ONE IN A BRACKET RACE,IF I CUT A LOW 5 LIGHT AND RUN THE NUMBER THERE IS NOTHING THE FASTER CAR CAN DO TO WIN.I HAVE WON THE HALLOWEEN CLASSIC GAMBLERS RACES THREE TIMES OVER FASTER BOX EQUIPPED CARS WITH NO BOX IN MY CAR SO THAT POINT IS MUTE.JUST SET NO LIMITS,HAVE FUN AND ADJUST NEXT YEAR.ALSO,A CHEAP $10 GAMBLERS RACE WOULD BE EASY TO SET UP EACH DAY AND WOULD ADD A LITTLE EXCITEMENT EACH DAY. PAY BACK 80% AND GO FOUR PLACES,EASILY DONE AND BREAKES UP THE BOREDOM OF JUST TIMETRIALS.REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR FIRST EVENT AND MISTAKES WILL BE MADE JUST MAKE IT FUN.

    Skylarkwilly,

First off number one rule...never stay out of the conversation. The BPG encourages comments, both negative (done tactfully) and positive. We're not here to compare our club to others or to say who's better than who, that would be wrong on our part (Board Members). What we keep in mind is there is always room for change based mainly on what the club members want. And if a change cannot be made, we be able to explain fully and logically based on facts the reasons why.

When we set up this event we thoroughly seeked comments from members and non members, along with vendors, but if a person wants their opinions to go further, being a club member is the way to do this. We listen to everyone and use their suggestions, but in the end the buck stops where the majority rule of BPG Club members stand. Because it's their club.

But again and to everyone else please get involved, and of course join up.

As with your points, they are well taken. But you have to realize at this point in time we cannot make major changes in the event. We all had that opportunity months ago on this site and the BPG site along with e-mails and even picking up that old contraption called a telephone  to voice opinions and to partake on setting up the event. So the time has past, though comments now, will be taken into consideration for the 2005 event.

Regarding the different classes, and box or no box, Chevy powered Buick bodied cars (which I was against but the majority wanted it), etc., I pretty much stated things on prior posts. As for next years event? Well, after we see the results of this years' along with both attending members and non members comments, we can then get a better idea if and what changes need to be done, if any are needed. And like this past year we will also be reaching out to the BPG Members to decide what they feel will better the event. On heated discussions the bottom line is what the BPG Members want as a majority and if what they want is entirely possible.

As with gamblers races, yes we have added it to Fridays schedule, but also you have to remember we have the track on a limited time schedule. Yes, it's easy to set up, but not when you have no track time to squeeze it in. If we have too packed of a schedule that would mean more down time for racers in each of their perspective classes, which equates to longer waits in the staging lines, that would not be fun as you said. The fun factor would be lost. People will be hot and pissed on long waits. As for a cheaper gamblers race, as a racer myself I would say $25 is cheap enough. Anything under that would not really be worth the track time, fuel and the wear and tear on my engine.

Just a quick question here to you Willy ( am I correct that this is your name). Do you plan on attending/racing at the event? And are you a member of the BPG?. Hope your answer is yes to at least the first question, because if you have a great time then I would expect the second question to become a yes.:TU:

EDIT: Dag:Dou: ! Bill Wills, just found out Skylarkwilly is you. Bill you should know the brain cells are lost at our ages and website handle names I don't always remember to the person behind it, your post and profile didn't have your name. As with some of your concerns you should know already with your experience running the Norwalk event first hand about making any last minute changes to a major event is darn near impossible. Like last year's Norwalk event when everyone wanted you to expand the Q-16 into a Q-32, and you stated that it wasn't possible and you had high 9 second cars bumped out. You already had the rules set for the event and stood by them rightly so.

Looking forward on the rain date in September at Norwalk, I'll be there! So I quess I can now scratch the first question I asked you, figuring you are going to attend. Right? Now how about the second one??????eh.

Hope to see you there, and I'll hold the lemons.

HI RICK,THE REASON I MENTIONED THE THINGS I DID WAS NOT TO CAUSE A PROBLEM BUT TO HELP WITH A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO WHAT IS BEING ASKED BY OTHERS.I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING SEVERAL PHONE CALLS REGUARDING THIS EVENT AND FOR SOME REASON A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK I AM INVOLVED OR HAVE INFLUENCE WHICH I DON'T.THESE WERE JUST A FEW IDEAS I THOUGHT COULD BE IMPLIMENTED IF THE RACERS WANT SOME EXTRA COMPETITION TIME AND THEY WOULD NOT EFFECT YOUR SCHEDULE.I WILL LEAVE THIS ALL UP TO YOU AND I WILL SEE YOU THERE.TAKE CAREAND GOOD LUCK

BILL, ARE YOU SHOUTING OR IS YOUR CAPS KEY STUCK? WHEN YOU LEAVE THE CAPS ON IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING. IF PEOPLE WANTED CERTAIN CLASSES OR RULES THEY SHOULD HAVE SAID SO BEFORE NOW. THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED ON THE VARIOUS THREADS FOR MONTHS AD NAUSEUM. TOO FRICKIN' LATE NOW. EVERYONE CAN JUST LIVE WITH IT. IT'S NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO SPEND A TON OF TIME GOING BACK AND FORTH. EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE. JUST WAIT AND SEE. I just figured maybe if you couldn't read normal size print, I'd leave my caps on too. That way you wouldn't feel lonely. :beer Once again, people just need to lighten up. This isn't an NHRA pro event. The fate of the free world doesn't hang in the balance. Don't worry....Be happy.

Well, I'm not sure I'm going to bring the race car, or any car for that matter, but I am coming, and I will see how much time I have to reload the trailer, I think the race car need tires, the '68 GS400 Convt needs the bumper replaced from last years mishap with the trailer door cable, which is in the trailer right now, but I will watch the weather, and if it's not going to be 90 degrees, I'll probably bring the race car just for the fun of it! See you all soon, but I'm still confused about what class I should race in, if I was to bring the race car, and whether or not there is somthing to do with my POS car on Saturday, test and tune? and Gamblers race? Still seems like a $200+ weekend to race, plus a $100/night hotel room, expensive, but I'm supposed to get a raise this week, I guess that's part of living in the fast with class lane, see you all soon!
PS, don't be so hard on BW, he's only been a computer whiz for a yr or so, and does pretty well with it, even though I've told him not to type in CAPS, it means you are yelling, but he wasn't meaning to Yell, just tell you what he thinks, etc.

Hi Roberta! Lets go one step at a time.
    1) Your car has run 11.30. If it did so at Salem, you'd be in Super Pro. If you ran 11.50 or slower, you'd be in Pro.
    2) There will be a gamblers' race.
    3) You don't need a raise to go racing! You've got lots of money. It's just that it's tied up in that enormous pile of Buick parts you've got stashed away. (don't deny it, I've heard all about it!)
    4) I happen to think it's fun breakin' Bill's chops. Therefore, I will do so whenever I feel it's appropriate.
    5) We've been planning this event for TWO YEARS!! You better be there, and you better be racing!! :spank:
    6) See Ya There! :TU:

  10. Roberta

    Roberta Buick Berta

    1) You are correct
    2) Yea
    3) You are correct
    4):Dou: :moonu: :blast:
    5) I'll be there no matter what, Boss-boy approved my personal travel with work on Monday, at the Lordstown Assembly Plant, home of the new Chevy Cobalt!
    6) I'm feeling the need for speed, so if I can do some maintenance on the race car, and maybe get to Summit for some new slicks and get BW to find me a place to get them mounted and balanced and I have a pit crew that can supply ice packs and also video the race at the same time, etc. either way I wouldn't miss you and the rest of the great Buick folks! Ever! See you soon, we'll be there sometime on Thursday!:Dou: :beer :bglasses: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:

Doug.....I don't remember telling ya that Summit mounts or balances tires! Silly boy I hope that you aren't drinking without me :) BTW...I'm pretty sure that they don't do that there.

There is a guy on the weekends that does mounting and balancing at the track I believe. But I don't know if he'll be there or not for this event. I do happen to know where his shop is though :) He's the one that mounted my M/T's that I probably won't get to run tomorrow night because of this stupid rain <sigh>

    See ya soon!
