Easy! Call Dan Jensen and see what an LS6 dynos. He has dynoed more of them than anyone else I know. Get yourself a Moroso calculator and run the number. Let me know what it says. I'll be probably on the slow side. Big Dog has worked on one as well. PM him and he'll have some information for ya!

    Interesting debate....

While I have no specific dog in the fight, I do follow and have been following the series for a very long time. I do have a 440-6pack slowly in the works that I may want to prep for the series eventually.

    Here are a few opinions/observations.

--Lets try to not hang the people before a fair trial-so to speak. While some of these times posted do seem unbelievable, they need to "count" unless the tech process tosses them out for infractions. Speaking of tech, yes, there seems to be a severe lack of it in both this venue and FAST. There needs to be a hammer, and the fear of being ostracized needs to hang over every race-otherwise the folks on the periphery will become dis-enfranchised(hence all of the bittrness you are hearing about).

--This is just an observation based on years of engine building experience. A "true" Pure stock pakage will eventually "hit the wall". There will be a point where any gains achieved will be VERY small. Case in point is Mino's FBird. Correct me if I am wrong, I could swear I remember him running 12.0's 12-teens in the 80's. Now he runs only 3 tenths faster some 25 years later in mineshaft air.:Do No:

-- However if there are rule changes, then all bets are off. I am not really in favor of radical rule changes. Make the cars as absolutely close to the way they were delivered and make the absolute most of what the factory gives you. If it means your particular combo is uncompetive with the heavies, so be it- do the best you can with it. Heck, I get more impressed by the guy that takes a car out in full trim, with a factory points distributor, factory delivered gear ratios, stock rockers, etc, and runs like a bear. That is the true essence of it, IMO.

I don't want to make any comparisons and I am NOT accusing anyone of anything as I have no first hand knowledge, but the gains shown in just the last few years have been nothing short of crazy. Looks almost like the steroid era in baseball. Maybe we have to get some of these cars off the juice-so to speak??. (no, I am NOT inferring that someone is using NOS). If they are all dead nuts legal, then tip your hat to a job well done.:beers2:

Thanks for the opportunity to voice an opinion. Keep up the good work. It would be a crying shame if this throws a wedge into the series. Some really good folks are involved and to lose that camaraderie and good times would really be a bad deal...

After reading 3 pages of this, I still go back to my earlier post. Change the name of the race. Then everyone is happy. Otherwise, it may as well be F.A.S.T. Really, why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?

Not everyone in F.A.S.T. can hit the 10's and 11's. Many are still in the mid to high 12's and higher, having fun within the rules. The point is everyone knows and accepts what the rules are. It's Factory "Appearing" and anything goes as long as you can't tell it is there. It does not contradict itself.

"Pure Stock", on the ther hand...? Maybe we'll never know for sure, but then again most of us weren't born yesterday.

Showing Up With A 4500lb Full-size Chevy Pretty Much Eliminates Me From Any Fast 8 Involvement Lolol . But I Have To 2nd What Tom Is Saying All I Ever Wanted To Do Was Run A Respectable Time And Share My Weekend With Good People And Good Food. The Most Work I Have Done For The Last 2 Years Is Adjust The Timing And Sealing Up A Leaking Valve Cover. And I Have Had A Fantastic Time .

I Guess I Just Find It Hard To Understand Exactly What The Pot Of Gold Is For These Racers ? There Is No Prize, The Magazine Coverage Seems To Have Dissolved Due To The Collapse Of The Enthusiast Line Of Mags. So What Exactly Is It, Just To Brag ? Seems Like A Lot Of Wasted Money And A Huge Loss Of Respect Risk If Your "caught". It Does Affect Most Of Us In Different Ways, I Have Been Involved In A Few Forum Arguments Defending Our Race And The Pure Stock Honor. It Gets Old Quick ..

You can`t be serious thinking someone would install and hide a traction control device and activate it so there would be a visual clue for everyone to see thats just crazy talk .. Hell I went down the track with my trunk open twice and no one accused me of altering my aerodynamic profile! LOL

If there isnt already, there should be a rule that all cars in both classes MUST weigh within 90% of their FACTORY shipping weight.

That would even some things up a bit. :beers2:

I am not sure what the problem is.

Bob and Dan have a race. Everyone is invited! Just follow the rules and everything's gonna be alright.

They are two guys who bust their balls to put on a neat show. Not following the rules is disrespectful, and then they have to bear the brunt of it all when some guy on the Internet says, "Those cars aren't stock!" and starts badmouthing the event. I'll defend the event and the guys that run it as if I have to defend ignorant criticism of New Jersey, but I shouldn't have to defend a thing - the cars (and the participants) should speak for themselves.

    Doesn't that seem a *tad* bit generous? [ex: 90% of 3500 = 3150 :eek2: ]

There is no longer anything "pure" or "stock" about this event. That would be a car as it came from the factory - taking all the good or bad points of each specific model. Modify it and it is no longer stock, and you've lost the spirit of the event. Should have never allowed NHRA specs.

If I'm going to grill and eat and drink and socialize, I'm going to do it at my home, a friend's home, or on a boat - not in a motel parking lot or dragstrip.

Some think pointing out a lack of rule control is bad for the race and will cause it's demise.

Others think the very lack of rule control is bad for the race and will cause it's demise.

However, don't let the differences of opinion fool you. These ARE friends in the motel parking lot and dragstrip.

Folks that agree they do not want to see the races demise.

Better yet, make ALL cars weigh within 25 lbs of their factory shipping weight.

This should be the case for FS, PS and FAST.:3gears:
