This is not a thread for the guys who can pull their engine, rebuild it and have it running the next morning. The other day I was seriously just thinking about scrapping the whole idea of ever having another GS (probably been 20 years since I even rode in one so my passion is running on fumes) but enuff of all that poor pitiful me! Lol. The car wreck a few weeks ago I thought was the final nail in my car coffin but I felt good enough today to work sitting down so I sanded up my rusty M/T SuperComps. I was gonna drive them to get them plated (more time, more money, something else that would never get done, my memory is going early). So I said the hell with it! I am gonna sit here in the cool but pretty day and sand these suckers, forget the fancy coating, go to NAPA with Rosie (they love her : ) buy some damn paint and GET SOMETHING DONE(!!!)just like I would have done as an unstoppable force as a kid who lived & breathed GS’s 24/7. Again, not looking for a medal or trophy (lol) but so HAPPY to see my headers painted up like they were back in the day! If they peel I will touch them up if that still sucks I will wrap them. Anyhow that is what is happnin in Fritzville : ) Hope everyone is doing well. Fritz
Good work. They look great. Try not to overdo it all at once, take breaks. No sense in delaying your recovery. Good luck and have fun with your restoration, I know I am.
Paint is all I could ever afford when I had headers on my '72 Chevy pickup years ago. Worked great and I was happy. Keep going Fritz!
Every little bit counts. At this point I'm just collecting parts for my car. I need to free up some garage space and play funds before I make any big moves and its been too cold to make small progress.
Hey I got a question what are the bung pipes for on some headers? Air/fuel mix or something? If so how is it hooked up and does it require more than an analog gauge or something? I used the set without them because I didn’t want another delay issue. Thanks for the atta boys my friends : )
Yeah, air fuel meters. They are an o2 sensor hooked up to an electric air fuel gauge. Easy to install later or disconnect. You don't usually need 2 all of the time either unless you like tuning your carb.
Sweet, nice work Fritz! I painted mine 2 years ago and still look decent.... I love your passion. You'll get there...
One step at time.. just keep plugin at it will get get done. Btw They sure look good.. I like the other set also...
Fritz, The bungs on the other headers in your picture are for a drag racing only crankcase evacuation system. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Remember this while working on a large project. Get some major parts ready to install. Ask for some help, and you can probably get some of the Carolina guys to come by and help. Don't be afraid to ask. Dave
My first set of M/Ts were bare because that’s what I could afford. I’d paid $600 for a ‘68 GS400 and less than $200 for a ‘70 455 from a junkyard Electra. The $275 or so the headers cost was a big deal! My near weekly ritual was ‘drive it up on rampstands and hit ‘em with ‘high heat black’’. Then I’d touch up the car with ‘Van brown’ (I **** you not; that was the name of the rattlecan paint that sorta matched Burnished Saddle) and ‘Buckskin’ where the vinyl top used to be. But I had a big block GS with M/Ts!! Patrick
