Use one of the warning lights if you don't want to see it except when on.

I use a cheap Autogage 3 1/2 inch tach with a built in shift light. Clamped to the column in period correct style with a big hose clamp. Covered in the rules as OK.
They also make the same tach with a small high intensity shift light on the side of the tach housing.

Guess I agree a large shift light mounted on top of the dash wouldn't look right. To me neither does a 5 inch monster tach.

i was going to use the E brake warning light , install a switch so it will work normally , but not sure it i would see it ? the light i have is an MSD that is only 1/2 or 5/8" in diameter.

i'm with you on the 5" monster tach and shift light and my tach is on the column also with a hose clamp :TU:

    Behind As Usual

Got Larry's LS6 bass boat motor in the other day. Only need to change the 3.36 gear yet. A few issues but they seem cleaned up now. I did not tell him we dropped it on the balancer from about 3 feet high. Anyone see any issues in this? It only wobbles a little. That will teach him to let me tune and work on his car

Jody the AMC marked a few spots around my house also. Now it is marking territory at Rich's. The one mark may never go away! Doing 120+ mph brake torque's in the drive tend to do that. Do not worry guys it is a parts car that was imitating Stroker Boy.

The SC short block is together, heads are close, gear is in, trans is done, no drive shaft yet, and need to make an exhaust. Maybe but it will be tight. The good thing is my wife is gone this weekend so I will use my 7, 5, and 2 year olds as slave labor. I think they can install Larry's gear, the two year old works well with hammers. This way the Vette will be ready for sure.

I can't wait to see this one. especially if it's anything close to as gorgeous as the Boss 351 we saw at Martin. Buddy of mine used to own an eliminator. He probably won't be able to make the race, but I'm going to take a bunch of pics for him. Of course, the car I'll be helping him go pick up sometime in the next 4-8 weeks is no slouch. 70 Torino Cobra. bench 4sp. super drag pack car. He drove the car in the early 80s, so he's VERY familiar with it. Car has been sitting since 85 and will be a loooooong term resto project.

    Tim,

If you haven't already put it together, Olds changed the water passages in the 350 in about 1976 or 1977 and that dictated a different head gasket. A lot of the gasket sets have the head gaskets for this new pattern and they will leak like sieves right in the middle at the bottom of the head between 3 and 5 and between 4 and 6. Check them very closely with the block and head to make sure you got the right ones. Been there done that. :bglasses: May have something laying around that's correct if you find that and can't get the right ones.

Also, did you use ARP head bolts? I've got an extra set if you need them. You can reuse them many times, not so with the stock ones unless you know for sure they've never been over torqued.

Unlike your buddy, Miller   , I'd rather I'd rather see you eating the goodies and tipping a few in the parking lot at night than watch you thrash. Especially on an Olds. :beer :beer
