Curt, do you go to the Spring/Fall Jefferson swap meet in Wisconsin? I think I bought a pair of 14X7 rallys from you last year. The quality was/is excellent and the wheels balanced up with hardly a wheel weight on it! I would definitely buy from again!!:TU: Thanks,
Yes, I repait rims also. I basically straighten them if they can be or cut the center out and put into a new rimshell. If you need the outsides rechromed, I can do that also. My chromer is in Winnipeq, Canada and he does excellent work! 515-685-3397 if questions on pricing!
I have never had to do anything to the chrome after the acid and buffing. The acid is water soluable (I blow off acid with pressure hose, then 2 stage buffing process (the compound I use does NOT have any fine pbble grit or sand in it but is a polymer base compound). The acid get the crud out of the pores and the buffing really brings back the shine.
Yes, I go to Spring and Fall Jefferson every year. Thanks for the comments. It seems I am having a tough time convincing the BUICK CROWD I am not a fly-by-night saleman. If anyone wants references, I can give you about 2000 names and telephone numbers to call. There is also Jim Lyon at TRUDESIGN Wheels in Denver that vouches for me. We trade business back and forth all the time. His number is 1-800-621-6436. Thanks again!!!
That looks like an all aluminum Toeq Thrist wheel. You can't weld aluminum centers to steel rimhell. Look at the back of the wheels. If there is a weld and the rimshell is steel, we can replace. We have put aluminum centers into aluminum rimshell if the wheel was a two piece wheel to begin ith(center and rimshell). Pricey, very pricey, the rimsheels alone for us to buy are right at $120 apiece!
Since you are re-using originals, is there a core charge? I was just going to order a set of 15x8s from wheel vintiques. could you do 15x9? I think alot of users here would appreciate a some pricing info, shipping costs, and turn around time.. I would anyway. I may order a couple of rims this weekend...
I have a Buick center I cut apart and started doing the acid, I noticed a bubble on the surface. I scratch with scredriver and chrome fell off. The metal underneath was rusted steel to me!
I take rims in on trade. Everytime I make a wheel, I have to have a wheel to cut apart. Man, I go thru a lot of wheels. I have probably 800 wheels stacked around and against my garage and my wife just hates it. BUT SHE DON'T COMPLAIN WHEN WHEN I SELL A COULE OF SETS!! If you traded in your 14 x 6 or old 15 x 7, these are the centers I would use for your wheels. Make sure the lugnut holes are good and round (not hogged out). The price of doing your wheels got cheaper by $20 each. I will do the same process as before just on your centers. The sizes I can do is 14 x 6, 14 x 7, 15 x 6, 15 x 7, 15 x8, 15 x 10s all in chrome!!14s are $199 each , 15 x 7s are $110, 15 x 8s are $120, 15 x 10s ar $185ea. Thanks, Curt!
Sorry, turnaround time if I have everything in stock is 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I am out of Buick centers at present time but a friend is bringing me 30 of them this weekend! I have the chrome rimshells already!
Can't get you a price on your wheels cuz I am not the chromer. We have done spoked wheels before and its a pain-all those little spokes but yes it can be done. Pricey is the word on these.
If you can weld aluminum to carbon steel I have a van full of brass magnets that you may want:beer .I'm thinking of 15"X10" rally wheels with 5"X5" centers for the Buick:Brow: .I was ready to junk these wheels, now I have options.
They Have ARRIVED!!! Got home today to find the box on the front porch. The new 15 x 8's from Curt at McWheels look GREAT!! Less than 1 week to build and ship my wheels. I know you guys like pictures, so put on your sunglasses and check these out. :TU: Not sure how many "cores" he has to work with, but you can contact him with questions, or to order your wheels. I am completely satisfied with mine and will be ordering two more 15 x 7's for the front. (Curt, please put me in line for two more). Thanks, Here's contact info: McWheels (Curt McKim) Slater, IA 50244 Phone: 515-685-3397 Email: bad86gt@huxcomm.net
Here are a few more pictures with MY center caps on. Man they look good! I can't wait to get them on my car. I think I'll go tomorrow to get my new ET Streets put on the wheels. Thanks again Curt.
Scott, They are just 8" wheels with the backspacing at 4.5". The wider wheel does give it more of a "lip" by the center part, but I don't think that makes it "WG" style. The 15 x 7 "WG" may actually have a different designed outer "shell/rim" to give the wider lip with the factory backspacing. I guess thats why the non "WG" 15 x 7 has a smaller lip than the "WG" 15 x 7. I'm not an expert on the "WG" wheels, so perhaps someone else could explain. I do like these wheels I just got from Curt.
I'm planning on getting 275/60R15 Mickey Thompson ET Streets. This tire has 9.2" tread width and ha 28" diameter. I like the "taller" tire and wide tread, should go well with my 3:73 gears.
