DL, The encyclopedia on 71's still works. I also will be helping Boston GSX put my old 71 back together. Dave
Did some more installation to the frame this weekend. Installed all fuel and brake lines. Most clips are original and restored in original colors.
Here are some more inclusing the rare 1970 California Emissions lines. You would be hard pressed to ever see these done anywhere else. Also new Brake valve.
I can't believe you rattle canned your frame Dave,. All my clips were reusable and had enough original color to duplicate. I see you found a match for that strato-mist blue one. Interesting the 4 speed cars still got the yellow one for the transmission cooling lines , in that position not used. DL
Thanks Guys, Dl funny you mentioned that non used yellow clip for the auto trans cooler lines. I have seen them in a couple of unrestored GSX 4 speeds so one went back in mine. I cannot wait for the first guy to tell me it does not belong there...Also for the blue clip I found an anodized blue paint at an auto parts store. Also the green.
Jason, That is it. Looks like all 4 spds got em............. I finally got you hardware will send out this week.
My guess is that they probably didnt know at that stage of assembly if the car was going to be a 4 speed or an auto. So it got the clip. Your really making good progress Dave. Im impressed.
Thanks Jason....Yay both springs are in...More fun than you can have with your pants on....Actually I hate the job. Having my Catheter heart procedure last year was more fun and my pant were off and there were good looking nurses involved. I guees I should keep this thread clean however....You have not lived until you have done a set of springs on a bare frame with no engine weight. I have done it twice now in th last few months. Very scary. Like playing with dynomite and not JJ walker.
Here are the three spring compressors I tried to put the springs in. I did one with the auto zone rental. It is at the far left. It worked fine but not sure if I really trust it. The spring fits in the lower groove fine at the bottom of the claw shaped device. However it rests on the single point up near the top and did not look too stable. I am not sure what spring this was designed for but that point should be placed better. It looks like the spring should sit in between the three points but it dos not. The compressor on the far right is one I bought from Eastwood and is made in the USA. It is going in the trash however. It came off in my hands. No kinding. Not fun. I have uses it a few time now and it worked Ok but the hooks are more L shaped than they should be. They may have bent. My safety cable trick may have saved my face or who knows. If I had to use one it is the one in th center. I rented it from Taylor rental for $15. Check out the hooks on it. They really grab the spring. You feel musch more confident with this spring. I have seen this for sale on the internet for over $300. So rent it. Worth every penny.
Pictures show spring installed aslo Disc brake spindle with big green paint marks coppied from original Also has pink dot in middle although it shows white in picture.
From our conversation this afternoon, the spring # my buddy got for his 69 396 Elky were Moog 5390's Good work! Now go have a drink and calm your nerves. :TU:
New wheels on the way. You should have them tomorrow. Enjoy and thanks for working with me to get the centers. Steve
Steve, I got the wheels an they are outstanding. Better than NOS could ever be. They look like real WG's. I am very pleased. I will try and post pictures of them here soon.
