It's coming along nicely Dave! 6 months is very fast, and you have very high expectations. Usually, $$$ or time restraints will slow you down. Then...theres always the planning for parts, you got to do that WAY ahead, because like interior parts, if they are not black you have to wait. Then there are parts you buy way ahead, and they don't fit or work right. So...you are making great time all things considered.

I pretty much have everything. Car was budgeted before I started. Interior and engine are being done now. I got back part of the interior this weekend..I know what you mean about snags. Window fuzzies. Had NOS for drives side. Fit like a glove. Not so with repros for the passenger and rear. Took hours to get them in. Also the stainless rear qtr trim is a pain. If it did not come from that car you are using it on you can have issues. I got the body wiring in this weekend and started on the sound deadner. Carpets and dash wirng next. Rear bumper, tailights and wiring all in as well. So busy no pictures yet. Also started working on the door mechanisms. Those are always fun.

Brett, Thanks..I had to fight with the woman at the registry counter over that one..I got the "Sir, you cannot use those plates..They are low number plates". I insisted I could. She called her boss and had to eat some crow.

    I'm not surprised.

Obviously, she's unaware that her place of employ actually offers the application documents on line for these specific plates.

If you told me they gave you a hard time because you might have only had one plate, I'd understand that but they (should be) aware that after 40 years, that's not always possible.

Engine is finally done. This thing is making 448 HP and 547 lbs/ft torque! All looking stock. All detailing has also been done and ready for install..Pictures show as original plating etc. Also note original type fuel pump with cast AC. Those are tough to find.

You know when your deep into it when you recreate the colors of the clips on the heater core where no one will ever see until maybe you are dead.

It looks great Dave, really coming along nice! I guess you really don't plan to drive it with that AC marked pump. That A on the alt, are you sure about that? I've only seen that on Chevy, I know pacecarjeff + others say it was on every alt, but I've never seen it before. Dump the orange plug boots for max effect! Keep on it...thanks for the pix.

Hi Frank, I think the A is correct on the alternator. I have had so many dozens over the years and seam to remebers them always being there on originals..As far as the plug boots they are reddish in color. They are correct date code style plugs so they should be this color. Thye even made good power on the dyno with those skinny litlle plugs.

Hey Dave, I think the reddish boots are not right. The same boots are on my 67 GS repro wires, I know for a fact they weren't reddish from the factory. I changed mine to black, slightly longer boots than the reddish ones. For my car and I believe yours, also...black boots, longer than what you have now. The original wires...the terminals at the plugs were longer than repro and bent like 30-45 degrees or something to help in the routing of the wires. You can see this in your service manual or service bulletins. I can load a pic on here if you want, but I don't have much 70 lit. Those orange like boots were only used on Chevies. I think Ken Lisk mentioned something about the black boots before. Never...ever...assume that because a company claims their item is an EXACT repro, that it actually is! It's a pet peeve of mine and some others on here, too. I'm sure Duane would know this. Olds repro wires are the same, they at least have black boots, but they are too short, and not bent at the plug. That's why the 2 wires at the rear drv's side don't lay like flat. If they are angled, you can get the wires to suck in or out just by turning them at the boot. You can tweak the terminals on the repro wires, I did mine. It doesn't matter where the GS repro wires come from...they all have the same boots. I 99.9% sure the wires on your car were angled, and I'd bet my x-wife's life the boots were black! I know you are a fussy guy, I thought you'd want to know. Naturally, other peeps on here will say I'm nuts and to just throw a 25MM set of wires on it, any color, for max performance! To each his own......I guess!

Heh, my kid got sideswiped in his '70 Dodge Dart, totaled for $2300. We fixed it, and when he went to get new plates, the dolt at the DMV insisted that the car was a Chrysler because there was a decal that had that name. He pointed out all the "Dodge" labels, but my son now has the only "Chrysler Dart" in existence. I guess he didn't take his complaint high enough up the food chain.

And, Oh Yeah, this thing is lookin' GOOD!

  19. BUQUICK

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Frank, I believe the red boots are indeed correct for a '70 Stage 1. I base this one several original cars, but I submit a photo here of the 7,093 mile unrestored Stage 1 that was at the GS Nats in 2010. The car was an amazing unrestored car and had the original plug wires, and they had the reddish/brown colored boots. Why do I believe them to be original and not reproductions? Because they were dated 4-Q-69 and the reproductions are only available as 3-Q-69 or 01-Q-70 so they can't be reproductions.

Well...that's hard evidence to dispute...I guess I'm wrong! I can tell you 12-14 years ago you could buy any qtr repro wire you wanted. Then...they just cut to a few qtrs over the years to save bucks and reduce their stock. I was at the BCA Nats w/ my car in NC last week. I did score a Sr. Pres. there. I did look at all the wires there on the GS cars of various years. I didn't see any wires that looked original or low mile cars. If that's a 7k mile car those wires are really dirty. If they were repro 4 qtr wires...I can't see how they could ever get that dirty in 7K miles. Maybe Stage one had them + regular GS didn't? Interesting........
