Those are a pita. Don't work with most ball joints. NOS work, or I think if you get the bolt kit And the ball joints from inline they may work. Should keep Dave busy for a while..

I agree the hell with those rivet screws. Very frustrating. Tried two different types. No one will ever see them once body is on.....Copper cotter pins are in order.

Josh, If you mean painted it it was me...As far as rebuilding I have a real good Guy named Daryl Lancto who works at Montrose Machine in Wakefield Mass. He is ver good at rears and drivehafts.

I also strayed away from the current trend of cast gray center section on the rear. Mostly because there was already some black paint there and I did not want to blast it as it was to clean. I beleive either could be correct. Depends on how much paint the factory worker felt like putting on at final assembly. I have even seen an Olds Rear done in entire gray?? Never saw that when these were new.

I went with the all black calipers. Assembly manual says to paint outer surfaces flat black. I kept going with the paint. Why let it rust? The reproduction caliper brackets are actually nice pieces. My originals were painted black and I did not have time to strip and have them plated. The reproductions although made in Taiwan appear very rugged and fit with no problems. The threaded mounting bosses have nice welds where the factory ones were not. I wass les impressed with the backing plates. My originals were gold not silver but one was broken so they were shelved..................................................The wheels pictured below are an orignal 70 WG wheel with one of the nice wheels Steve Caruso made for me. He cuts aprt 70 style 14" wheels and make 70 Style WG's. You cannot tell the difference looking at the outside. These will look great on the GSX.

Front body mounts painted orange. The service manual shows oroange body mounts. At some time they were changed to violet. I do not know when the changover occured but the orignals in mine were ornage. They only had orange painted on streaks so that is how I did the new ones. Lots of work for something that will never be seen.

I have to tell you, Dave, this is quite an undertaking. I originally subscribed to this thread just to keep tabs on your progress. I guess my question is: do you plan on driving this or is it going to be strictly a show car?

Brett, My idea is to have a car that would be new or a little better as GM would have built it. I plan on driving and showing it gingerly at first then more as time goes by. I think it would kill me to just have it sit around. It deserves to be driven.

This was a big week. got the finished frame off to the shop and we got the body back on. The guy doing it is a one mane show so I get to help with many things which is waht I like. I did not get to have an engine in place like I wanted. I wonder why? But that will have to wait. Here are some pics of te frame on its way.

    Dave,
My car is a 03D car. It had plenty of orange paint left on the mounts. Sure according to the manual should have been violet by then. I restore the car the way it was , not what some book say's.

DL. good to know I did it right. I could see orange on one mount. Someone painted the others black at some point. The service manual shows orange for the mounts. It must be earlier print than assembly manual......Nice to see your car is same build as mine. Which clip do you have holding the brake lines behind the brake booster? Is it the all metal clip that pops in or the one with the two rubber inserts that screws in?

Car came home this weekend all newly painted. Now it is my job to put it together then get the stripes done. My goal is to have it reatored from frame completely apart to running car in 6 months. That started in January. getting close.
