Chris, you gotta get yourself down here this Spring or Summer:laugh: This is typical N.E chapter ball breaking. I'm laughing while I type this. Alan and the rest of the gang have been doing this for as long as I know them. We got guys who are way worse:laugh: It is good natured banter. I hope you can hang with us without getting insulted:beers2:

Ok, so aside from popping the top on a frosty beverage and being thoroughly entertained by this thread, I only have one thing to add....

Alan my friend, if that was meant to be a Rush reference, you sir just gained an immense amount cool points in my book!:TU:

That is all, back to your regularly scheduled ball busting....:beers2:

... back when you were just a puppy, I used to have a cassette that was inserted and played at volume level 11 while I was prepping BigRed for a nights' outing which may or may not have included a few unscheduled rapid acceleration events

I strip away the old debris
    That hides a shining car.
    A brilliant red Barchetta
    From a better, vanished time.
I fire up the willing engine,
    Responding with a roar.
    Tires spitting gravel,
    I commit my weekly crime...

    Wind-
    In my hair-
    Shifting and drifting-
    Mechanical music-
    Adrenalin surge...

    Well-weathered leather,
    Hot metal and oil,
    The scented country air.
    Sunlight on chrome,
    The blur of the landscape,
    Every nerve aware.

Chris - you are absotively right and that is why I wrote it that way - My Definition

Never have I said your definition or anyone else's is wrong. Look at the cars on the Power Tour and what they've accomplished - simply amazing.

I think once you decide your car is not a track-only car, then the compromises begin and depending on what your priorities are for your ride, that is where your ET may hit a wall.

    Alan,
I think you better invest in this before Buster H. Skaling comes a knockin:laugh:

I wonder how much HP Stacy's engine made? I kow it went a 1.81 60ft and a 11.81 in the quarter, but that car miled an hour at 117. I know the tires werent spinning because he said he left real easy

A couple notes here.My car,Larry, was not that good in heavy traffic,it most likely would over heat in the condition you describe. You fail on the basis that you did not explain that I had an original 40 odd years old radiator that came with the car.Second ,with the same weight I ran 11.90 with 2 broken rockers. In my opinion that would have been an 11.70 run.My car is as heavy as yours, with steel heads. My son's Regal with the BBB motor, full body, ran 2 times in Charlotte, both times in the 1070's,that's with my old steel heads, with those heads in a lighter car, 3400 with driver, the car went 10.20 and the car was street legal,I would drive it all over the Island.By the way, both you guy's are excellent engine builders,I would recommend both you two to anybody.BrunoD.

40 year old radiator! If it was really 40 years old, it would have overheated by the time you got to Old Country Road:laugh: It didn't look that bad to me. In any case, until we cruise side by side up to Steve Perry's cruise night with no issues, it doesn't meet my definition of a true street car. As soon as it warms up, you're going to get that engine together so you can kick my:moonu: at the track, right? I thought it was Leo that ran 11.90:bla: I think you should get that 10.20 car back together and we should ride down to Yardley's barbecue in May. What do you say?

Whats your definition of a true street car? Bronos car has license plates and a NYS inspection sticker on it doesnt it? My car has A/C and power windows to boot

See posts 116 and 117. Lots of cars have license plates and inspection stickers. Drive your car 170 miles to a drag strip, make 6 passes in the 11's, then drive it 170 miles home, and get decent gas mileage. I think I'm the only guy in our club that has done that. That's the epitome of a fast street car to me, but everyone has their own definition. Don't get me into more trouble, I'm already off the cannoli list:Dou:

I'm going to add my two cents cents in this thread since its getting very interesting. I think there definetley more left in Larry s car. With proper tuning whether it be tuning the motor, converter change, suspension tuning, exhaust, etc. But going to the track once a year isn't going to get it done. If you change one thing a year and only test once will take you years to get the car sorted out, but if thats your desire than fine.the motor e made 600+ hp on the dyno but track dont lie. Its not getting to the pavement period the end. Jim built a great motor but when it ends up in a car he cant control the rest of the combination.far as driving it to the track, nice very good would I do it no.. could I with my car yes absolutely but I think its stupid, anything can happen, flat tire, god forbid accident, break something at the track then your stuck chuck. Unless your doing the hot rod power tour that doesn't impress me. As far as mpg goes WHO CARES?? has it really come to that?? Well my car gets great mileage?? Never heard anyone building a new powerfull motor to get better mpg.. Larry s 60' is definetley off but so is his mph, if your mph is down somethings off?? Motor tune is off or losing it through a unefficient drivetrain,if he don't care why should anyone else. Its his dime. He went from one motor to this roller 470 and basically gained half a second. Doesn't make sense?? Just needs proper diagnosing and tuning that's it...and as far as knocking the king, when you guys build a low 9 second race car let us know. His street car with nothing fancy has been faster than most with nothing special. A lot of people spend big money on fancy water pumps but keep the stock radiator that looks fine. Well see how his car cools now with his new radiator and see how fast it goes with his old steel heads. And if you pull up to the king ON THE STREET, better have your A game on. Because he will not hesitate to leave you sitting there wondering what happened. He abused my friend in his chevelle and after seeing g the king romp on his car my friend wanted nothing from the Buick!! And Larry,, think your definitely off the canoli list!!!LOL when his car is done call him out on Hempstead tpke the kings old stomping ground and let's see what you got. You get in front of him your back on the list

I agree with everything you said. I drive my car to the track more out of necessity than anything else. I'm not buying a truck anytime soon. Makes no sense to me at this point. Going back and forth to Bellmore and other cruises is no big deal, but when you are driving to Ohio or Maryland, it's nice to be able to easily swap on a Q-jet and get much better gas mileage. It's important to me. I'm not a racer, never was, don't want to be. I just wanted an 11 second street car, and that's what I have. I'm perfectly content to take it down the track once or twice a year, but that isn't my priority. I know that must frustrate a guy like you who is much more into the track than I am. I'll get it done, it will just take longer, and what I'll end up with is a car that is not track legal, and trust me, there is no way I'm putting a bar in this car.

The King will leave me standing there. Like I said before, I won't mess around on the street. I like my life just the way it is.

I'll be back on the Cannoli list anyway. The King always needs computer support, and help getting his new mill into the car.

The only thing I see wrong with Larry's car when he ran it is that he didn't have a tach at the time, and wasn't optimizing his launch rpm and his shifts. He would probably got kicked off the track if he did.:TU:

    Sweet car Larry!

You are right Larry,I was not driving when the car ran 11.90 with 2 broken rockers,I ran 12.00 the previous run, with 3 broken rockers. That would still be an 11.70 run,or better and that was when you were running 12.30 with aluminum heads.I told you many times, with your new motor, the car will be running in the low 11.00's,just don't be afraid to step on the gas. What do you think, you are going to get some kind of price for good gas mileage?I'm not talking about driving on the street here,I'm saying get those RPM's up at the track.Bruno.

Need a pat on the back? Cough up a fur ball? Yes, I've seen you drive a lot further than that in Big Red, and beat her relentlessly, but not reel off 6 passes in a row in the 11's. The last time you drove Big Red to Ohio, I remember you hot lapping her trying to get her to go faster than 12.0's. Yes, it was very hot. I have my doubts about whether I'll ever see that again. When are we pulling the head off so you can repair it right? How long has it been now? Oh Yeah, I'm going to replace that brake light for you at the same time.

Ya your right Alan, he is forgetting you... he gets that way sometimes.

Or maybe you don't count.... I guess we would have to go for the judges for a ruling.. is 11.90 really the 11's....:spank:

If you would get with the roller cam program, well, then.. that would be different. Or quit fooling around and build a screamin' demon out of that woodie your hording.:spank:

    _______

You know, I should have clarified my comments a while back, in regards to "street cars"

IN regards to Dave's car, I should have said "not a street car like Larry's".

It's one of those street cars with a 5000 stall converter and no inner fender wells..

My definition of street car is really simple.

    • You have to go on a 100 mile city hwy trip
    • If you have to think about which car to take, your true modern daily driver, or your GS, then you have a real street car.
    • Otherwise, you have a limited use hot rod, like most of us do.
