had the TA 510 Hydraulic cam in this engine before i put the 294-98F and ran a 12.50@119 mph,no matter what the car is definitely not set up for 1/4 mile suspension is too stiff and need drag radials for sure.

  3. That's still a 10 second MPH George. Impressive.

Yes, that 2.04 60 foot time is telling....nice to see that down to 1.5-1.6 and what would be going on 1320' later....

You gotta be a real moron to run pump gas at the track. Especially if your car is green.

Leaded high octane race fuel is used simply as a preventative measure when tuning on the dyno. It gives you more latitude to have the timing out, or the fuel curve too lean. A dyno loads the motor very hard.. WOT at around 3500, and the water brake is holding it from going any higher until the software lets it.

My dyno guy used to say that it's like having a 4 speed, with a 10,000 lbs trailer behind it, and shifting from first to 4th and flooring it.

I always tell my customers there is no extra credit for running pump gas at the strip, there is no reason at all not to add a few gallons of leaded race gas for an insurance policy.

If your worried about the actual tune, that's no issue.. since the specific gravity is nearly exactly the same, and the required fuel/air ratios are the same, there is no fuel curve difference required on race fuel, vs pump gas. I used to switch every motor back to pump premo when it was all tuned up the the dyno, but quit since every one either picked up 2-3 HP, or stayed exactly the same, always well within 1% anyway.

Two customer cars I actually had a chance to build and test at the strip.

70 GSX full frame off resto, full weight AC car, all iron motor

    10-1 TRW shortblock
    full port iron heads
    290-08H cam
    Performer intake
    1000 Thermoquad
    Headers, x pipe 3"
    My VP TH 400/converter
    3.55 gear 12 bolt

I ran it at 12.02 105mph at Norwalk in '04, on the way to deliver it to him. Just had a 26" ET street tire on the rear, the air cleaner in the trailer.

He later reported running it in FLA at sea level, it went 11.90's.

Built another car with almost exactly the same drivetrain, it ran 11.90's in FLA. I don't recall the MPH.

    Another--

    87 Regal- 3700 lbs
600 HP STG 1 SE motor
    240/241 flat tappet
    SP1- TQ
    10" 3500 stall converter
    3.73 gear.

Ran consistant 11.30's at 2500 ft da around here.
Later ran int he high tens on the coast, around 120ish mph.

That one you did not want to downshift the trans on the highway, it would spin the 275/60 BFG's at 60mph.

    Chris,
I never fill my tank with 110 at the track. I add 3 gallons or so of 110 to around 10 gallons of 93. I'd rather lose a bit of power than detonate it.

If people are using an air fuel meter then they need to know what stoich is for their fuel. For example stoich for race gas is 14.7, stoich for pump gas with 10% ethanol in my area is roughly 14.1. This will affect your max power afr number. A rule of thumb is to multiply 0.85 by the stoich for your fuel to find your max power afr If you use a lambda meter then approximately 0.85 is where you want to be for any stoich fuel.

I'm not a risk taker Chris. This car is a street car way more than a race car. I want it to last a good long time. 3 gallons of 110 is cheap insurance. I've decided to go fixed pitch this year. And, it will get shifted right at 6000 RPM. With the right converter, the leave should be way better than the station wagon leave I have now.

what is you 60ft on the those 11.60 passes , I just dug up my slips from cecil and my best run was a 1.570 60ft wich kinda shocked me since I have all road race suspension . that fixed pitch should do well in your car right around 3000 stall.

My best 60' to date is 1.63. It doesn't leave as hard as I think it should. I leave the high stall on for about 2-3 seconds, and the balance of the run is in low stall. I tried leaving off idle, and at various RPM. My best 60' times come when I load the converter to maximum, about 2700 RPM. I think the smaller lighter 9.5" will benefit me greatly. We will see.

Video #4, listen to the rpm. It sounds like it leaves in the low stall and then right after the launch the high stall turns on? Ditch the switch pitch and install a fixed pitch, it needs stall speed it leaves like my moms wagon
