Ok....got home from work early and took the buckets out. Took all the plastic, chrome trinkets off and pulled the headrests. Then dropped them off at the shop. 2 weeks While the seats are away, I'm going to clean up all the plastics and re-dye them
Started cleaning the chrome trinkets today. I dyed the seat plastics but they're kinda beat up. I might bite the bullet and just pick up a new set. And I found another Fisher body cheat sheet as Duane calls them in the passenger seat back. Untouched for 50 years until now
I bought the seat springs and started watching a few you tube videos. Looked a little involved with the listing wire and cotton batting. Then I called the seat guy a block away and he said, "no problem. Got everything for those seats in stock" That convinced me to just drop them off and have em done. The guy does really good work.
I'm doing the same thing with the conv seats. I have everything here, but it's far easier to have a seasoned pro take care of it while I do other things I know I'm capable of accomplishing without FUBARing $1k worth of seat covers.
I did my buckets.. no one makes the correct foam for a 70 so slight modification to the seat back is required. Best to have a hot knife for the slots for the listing wire...I am 90% happy with the results.... however there are one or 2 spots I just couldn't get a small wrinkle out of.. hopefully sitting in the sun (convertible) will help... i would do all the easy work like strip them down but pay someone next time... it's an art for sure...
I used this foam for mine, as it was the closest available for the '70 based on what I've researched. https://www.ebay.com/itm/251222166666 These are the modifications the upholsterer had to make.
I took an underhood pic the other day when I yanked the seats out. You can get a better look at the paint work
So some jerk put a small door ding in the challenger. I had Stacy, aka dentboy on the board come over and remove it. Did an awesome job. So while he was over and had his tools out, I had him take a couple dinks out of the aquamist car!
I've caught two different people dinging my doors. They really get ticked off when you call them out on it, like it's no big deal. Yea, no big deal until they get the cost of repair by my dent guy.
I think it's because so many people lease cars now, they just don't care. A good dent guy can do unbelievable stuff. I had a really good guy, but he moved. My guy said the old cars are harder to do because the metal is thicker. I'm glad you got it fixed and are happy.
Jason, no matter what you use on the seat plastics use a clear adhesion promoter first. SEM and Bulldog are good brands. Let it just flash and it’s ready to paint. Use two coats. Only takes a few minutes to dry. If you don’t do it then it will peel on the plastic. No need to waste you money on dye. Krylon Fusion for plastic semi gloss black works fine.
