There's no doubt that this isn't only about indecency. If they aren't going to enforce it equally, then why bother?

How is it not a realistic analogy? Both have access to children. One just happens to have access to ALOT more of them. Just because you don't let your child listen to Stern, whats preventing countless amount of kids from listening to him and other just as bad stuff? What about the kids who have parents that either don't give a damn, or are at work and can't monitor what their children are viewing? Don't they deserve some protection?

BTW, I did see the VP shout down Leahy. I wasn't real impressed. Is it any different then when Kerry dropped the F bomb in Rolling Stone during an interview or when he said it to a bunch of reporters that he thought it was "off the record"? Either way it makes them look like asses, not because of the word, but because it shows me both are in powerful positions and both lack self control.

    Dana,

I understand your point but don't necessarily crucify and brand Cheney for the one and only thing you'll probably ever find that he did wrong. You want to talk about bad examples, why don't you talk about who was president from 1992-2000?

I can't stand Oprah Winfrey, but if you think the government gives her a free ride and brands Stern a filth monster because he's anti-Bush, you're naiive.

The government has been going after him for decades and his time finally came, perhaps on the wings of the Janet Jackson thing, but who cares? Something had to provoke it sooner or later. If not JJ, then another ridiculous event that caused people to say they've had it with permissiveness of our media.

Stern uses filth as a mainstream portion of his broadcast and always has. Without it, he wouldn't be Stern.

Winfrey doesn't talk about oral sex every single day of her life on national TV or use it in the same envelope that Stern obviously uses it in. I do agree that 9am is the wrong time for it though. While mom is upstairs showering and kids have the TV on before school, you'd like to think they aren't going to be listeng to how to perform a BJ. That's plain wrong.

    Don't blame it on....

    "The Government".

IF our system is working (and I hope it is, because it's the model for the rest of the world) WE are "The Government".

That means that MOST OF US agreed on a course of action. (or in the case of the electoral college, the selected representatives of the people agreed). If MOST of the PEOPLE don't like the way things are going, things will change.

What this means is that right and wrong are not automatically factored in to laws. What the PEOPLE WANT determines what the laws become. That is why MORALITY is so important in a democracy. It's also why countries like Russia, Iraq, China, Iran, Afghanistan, and many others are a tough sell for democracy.

The USA benefitted from founding fathers that were idealistic and operated from a starting point of trust for the people. This was (and maybe still is) unique in human history. Before 1776, rulers operated by claiming God's special dispensation, by the exercise of raw power, or a combination of both.

The framers on the Constitution of the United States believed that the document was only applicable to "a moral population". They said that it was "Totally inadequate for the governing of any other".

If the PEOPLE of our country decide that it doesn't matter if the Prez wants to boff his interns, or if it's OK for 11 year old girls to get PG and have abortions without telling Mom, or if Ms Jackson can brazenly flash the football watching population, you have to ask if the founding fathers were maybe wrong to trust the people.

But we are committed to the democratic system. It is sink or swim for the USA. We have survived slavery and a civil war. It takes decades for people's attitudes to change. Nobody is right about everything, and few people are wrong about everything. (Some of my in-laws, for example....)

So maybe there is a "backlash". And maybe Stern has his impressive nose out of joint. But all of the whining on both sides is good. It means that we are paying attention, getting involved, and thinking about what is going on. I think that, in the long run, we have the best system there is. Who would have thought that a bunch of deeply flawed human beings, greedy, lazy, innately cruel, frequently perverted, and selfish could have made it for over 200 years, making up the rules as we go along?

Here's another one.... Cheney taking Supreme Court Justice Scalia duck hunting before the Supreme Court hears a case involving Cheney and his "secret energy commission task force". I'm sure that conflict of interest would not apply here.....right.
1992 to 2000. yah that was bad, eight years of record economic growth, taking the Reagan/Bush defecit and turning it into a surplus( which "W" wiped out inside of a year) unpresidented good relations around the world, but I have to admit that the Whitewater investigation that cost upwards of 80 million dollars over a $40,000 land deal had some amazing results.....a trist with a sausy intern who flashed him her thong. For that I have no excuse. Bill was wrong.
as for the rest of it I'd take Clinton/Gore back in a heartbeat.

Take off the blinders Dana. The economy was already on a downswing before your buddy left office. He also didn't have a war on terrorism to deal with, he was too busy unzipping his fly to worry about that. The economic growth did not begin when slick Willy put his hand on the Bible and took his oath (which he breached anyway). Reagan started that for him, but why give a Republican credit for anything right? Do you really think a new president does not inherit what comes before him?

Anti-Bush fanatics could care less that the economy is doing good and over a million new jobs have been created and that interest rates are low as hell and that there have been no further terrorist attacks in 3 years and that consumer confidence is very high. Sounds like a real disaster.

Not even prices at the gas pump are holding anyone back. Tourism in Bar Harbor here is exploding regardless of gas prices. I don't know what "your" financial situation is but the rest of the country is just about split down the middle on that opinion, basically liberal vs. conservative opinion no doubt; with swing voters lying in the wings.

    To All,

Howard Stern posions the minds of our children. Now this is not a quote from previous posts but its implied.

Well.... I can say that I have two boys ages 8 and 11. I would bet that my boys have NO IDEA who Howard Stern is or what he does for a living. Why????? BECAUSE I PARENT THEM!!!!

People need to stop blaming TV or Radio for the moral decline of the world and start spending time with there children. The biggest problem with our country is the individuals who want to blame others for there problems instead of taking responsibility for there own actions. THIS DRIVES ME CRAZY!

Also... moral decay.... give me a break.... Read some history books people.... Atleast our society doesn't condone acts against the young.

The increase in crime...the progression in style...It is all due increase in population which in effect has thinned supervision.

If it "The Children" you are all worried about,Stop thinking your kids are "perfect" and don't be offended when a stranger tells you your kid is screwing up.
When I was a kid,I would fear my Mom finding out something that I was doing wrong....Nowadays,If a person brings your kid back to you with a report of how they were screwing up,You think "NOT my prince/princess,You are mistaken".
I remember getting my ass "Busted" if I acted like see some kids getting away with nowadays.
Kids nowadays SCREAM for attention from their parents that are spread too thin with jobs and other kids.

    I don't think Howard Stern gets to your kids......Maybe the VIDEO GAMES,PRO WRESTLING,RAP MUSIC,ATHLETES.....

Really.....How many HS listeners are under 18???
I can't imagine the humor there would matter to someone that young.

So with that said....STOP HIDING BEHIND CHILDREN!
    It doesn't work with me.....

    And Dan.....
You're right,I AM an incredible citizen!!!!
I rarely drink,NEVER drive when I've been drinking or endanger people by driving like a ''lunatic''....especially with my truck and trailer(*you know who you are*)
I help Old Ladies on icy parking lots,Hold doors for people and politely tell them "Your Welcome" when they thank me.I smile and acknowledge children that are beyond their shy stage.....
I've never been delinquent on a payment of any sort,Never filed bankruptcy.
    Never fathered an illegitement child.
    I don't abuse insurance,or workmans comp.
    I am well spoken,considerate,perceptive,and articulate.
I'm an excellent employee, always early, self motivated to put in 10 honest hours with pride in my work,Always willing to help others.
A great neighbor, not loud,I take care of my property....again willing to help
    I am a kind charming considerate,Son,Grandson,Brother,Cousin,Friend.

I am put off by religion because it drives people to make decisions for me....I just want to listen to Howard Stern in the morning,I don't want to have to pay extra to do so(Satellite).
I've listened to him for 15 years,I've never been big on religion.

And I would be someone that any one of of you would be happy to live next door to or have as friend.

So you'll have to look elsewhere for the decline in the quality of society......**HINT**My post started with it.

It's just a bummer that this thread has taken off like this....I think most of you forget that this is supposed to primarily be a message board about Buicks.......But then again,I had to do it to prove myself "right"......
I would never get this kind of response if I posted myself or someone else's accomplishments with their Buick.

That's what obscenity laws are for (gestures at least).

Pretty nice how no one mentioned her great ( ) show yet and the stuff that goes on there, it's like porno! Did you see the one she did about kiddy porn? She put an uncensored picture of it up on that huge screen behind her! It was censored for people watching tv but what about the hundred people in her audience? Shouldn't she be in jail?

They should have parents that have set a good enough example, if the kid respects Stern more than they're own parents, the parents are at fault.

It shows me that they're real people, I don't want a robot in the office. I know I swear, I try not to but it happens. The vp shouldn't have said it, kerry's doesn't bother me however since he didn't say it "against" anyone.

Here in Minneapolis, most of the radio stations are owned by two big media companies. Every station sounds the same. I'm sure that any talk show personality who speaks out against a lack of independent voices on the airwaves won't last long.

Floyd, since you asked,I was raised Catholic, and from what I`ve seen, read, and heard, first hand, the church runs on cash...a lot of it. If you donate a ton of money you can get married 4+ times in "the church",plus if your little envelope wasnt in the weekends collection plate and you had childen in grade school...guess what, your kids werent welcomed back next school year. Also if your children transfered out of a Catholic school to go to a public school they wanted all the tuition paid for the entire year before your records were transfered. All of the above I have witnesed personally.I wont even go into the alter boy thing and how much money was paid out to the families. When my buddie asked me to be his son Godfather,I said sure, guess what was the first thing they did at chuch? passed the basket, and if anyone didnt put something in it,they made you feal like an azz.
Also when your chuch decides how much of your hard eared income should be given to them[based on yearly income]I find totally wrong
The Catholic chuch left a foul taste on me,thats why I dont practice ANY religon.

Dont get me wrong,I dont care if you believe in God,Buuda,Alah or the Easter Bunny just ,dont force your beliefs on me,and I feel GWB and Brownbacker are doing just that, forcing there beliefs on to me

Look at it another way,As of July 1 no more Buick engines in your car becouse the Govt finds them offensive, you can now only run a SBC,becouse these are "safer"and not ofensive.....sounds crazy doesnt it?thats the way I feel about what Bush/Brownbacker is doing about Stern.Someone mentioned MTV,last time I checked MTV is a pay service,if it isnt I`m getting ripped off
The one thing I noticed about kids today is they have no fear[go ahead and say the fear of God] the parents cant disapline there kids becouse the Govt will put the parents in jail or take there kids away. When I was young and got out of line, guess what, your azz got smacked.Cant do that today, you must "reason" with your kids, not beat there little behinds like they should be.I`m not saying abuse, there`s enough people here that know what I`m talking about.

    buickdav Kris' other half.

As a rule I steer away from these types of posts but this is just kinda tough. Well that and I can't sleep, anyways........

I think this thread was started (in simple terms) as a complaint about someone piggybackin' a bill to get a law pasted bla bla bla. To that I respond very simply........

For ANYONE that ever took a class in high school that remotely resembled govt'. you would already KNOW(based on your education) that this does happen, did happen and will continue to happen until every member of this board is dead and gone. I may be just a dumb hick from Kansas but I HAD to take govt. my senior year. At which time I wa taught about this. Shown the proof, and realized there was nothing I could do about it. I vote and complain. Those are my rights.

As far as the other stuff about what our kids see and hear. I think thats a tough call at times. But in the end logic will prevail. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have told any one of my 3 boys that, and I quote, ''you have actually seen/heard stupid''. Be it in regards to an idiot just cussing a blue streak, to much worse cases. I was raised under a stern hand, and so are my boys. They have been taught to turn and walk away(sound familiar???) unless they just can't. If they can't and they HAVE to defend themselves they have been taught how to hurt someone so they can get away.

But in the world that they see and live, be it TV, video games, or what have you, I can see that it is tough for them to turn away. WE as adults are responsible for teaching them what is right. BUT it is also WE same adults that are allowing this crap to be put out for our kids to see and watch. And it is WE adults that are creating games and TV/Radio programming aimed at them. If you don't believe that please excuse yourself. It is simple if you look. Just don't look through a blind eye.

I will teach my kids what I feel is right. Based on what I have learned through my lifetime of mistakes. Hopefully they will learn and remember what they have been taught when its time for them to enter the world. And in turn be good people. As an adult and parent now though, quite frankly, it would be nice to get some help from someone once in awhile. Instead of turning on comedy central at 8 pm and seeing South Park. How do you tell a young boy that a cartoon on TV at 8 in the evening isnt a cartoon for him. Hell to them, cartoons are ALL for them.

    Just my thoughts ....................
