All the advice is good. I'll just add that if you're serious about someone, take a good, hard look at her mother. If there are little idiosyncrasies about her mother that bother you, then buyer beware. What her mother does/acts etc. is what you're going to deal with down the line. Been there, done that. And whatever anyone says, waiting till you're in your 30's to make a committment does make sense. I waited till I was 32, wished I waited till 82... Mike
I'll second Jim's advice. I've been with mine for 6 years now, every move, and every year she's gotten better, not been chipping away at me. Started helping me in the garage 4 years ago... "hey... you actually pull the engine OUT??? Wow..." Started racing the Wagon down the strip last year "this is GREAT these guys think I don't know a thing and I BEAT `em" :laugh: I fix up her house, got her a car she can go skiing with, built her a hot tub...and I NEVER yell. Takes years to create respect and trust. People either get better, i.e. they're sincere about going along with your insanity... or they're more interested in liking you for the sake of having you. Either way, takes time to prove it. In any event, you'll never have to question yourself about wether or not you made the "right choice" Just like buying Buick... gotta think it over for a while...

There is Much truth here...I go along with the grandparent/parent theory...look at them closely...you will end up with a reasonable fascimile, minus most of the good points....Like I said earlier...stick with the stalkers...have fun with them...they'll get sick of you after a while, then you can move onto their girlfriend ( at which point the stalker will be back for round 2). If they punch you, haul off and hit 'em back.Then kiss and make up. In the morning, point to your welt and tell her your through. A serious relationship is a long way off...for a young guy like yourself, the further off the better.It's EASY to find one to settle down with. They ALL want that. They've been trained since birth. Hang out with the ones that are out for a good time. Soon as it stops being fun, it's time to move on. Stop questioning if every one is THE ONE. When the real deal comes along, the rest will come without hesitation. At that point, try to procrastinate as long as possible In the meantime, try to learn the subtle ins and outs of swaying a females opinion, gentle persuasion, gentle manipulation,and gathering the keen ability to immediately realize when none of the above will work. Then look at her backside and your wallet and determine if it is all worth it. Kids WILL complicate the issue in dramatic fashion. With them, all bets or off. Buy her flowers, kiss her butt, and keep your mouth shut as much as possible. Nod your head in silent recognition that you have arrived at the life you were doomed to all along. Into the "us" thing with the significant other and now I'm getting back into my cars and guess who is not happy. Her great grandmother bought it new and willed it to her when she passed away. The car only had 25,000 miles on it when she got it. Sorry, just had to gloat :laugh:
Great topic. First of all let me just say I have extensive knowledge in this area. When I was a teen I always had classics. My Dad's. Also the fact that I was a drummer in a band didn't hurt. Chics dig the cars fellas, and yes they are all insane. My wife of 9 years included. The trick is to know this and understand it completely. The day I stopped asking why was the day of total enlightenment. They just are. 18 to 22 are especially bad years. Just like the 80's for American cars. After highschool, the hard facts of life set in and believe it or not, it may sound sexist but it's not, girls don't deal with the cold as well. Have you ever noticed that girls have very few or none of the same friends from when they were kids? Men usually do. Why? Because even though we're generally stupid about relationships, we are very loyal. That's why we keep all that junk in the garage that we're never going to do anything with. The thought of throwing away the steering wheel from my old Mopar is just wrong. Girls will change friends, hairstyles, clothes 9 times a day, favorite everything and have a different opinion about the same thing every hour. What makes them happy today will piss them off tomorrow. Don't ask why, just beware and you'll be alot happier. Most important, don't talk to much, they remember every word you say. Especially don't write anything down on paper. It always comes back to bite you. It's like a Buick going down a canyon road. Theyre all Crazy! Hate to tell ya, but it doesnt get any better when youre older. I am 35 and just got out of a 2 year relationship with an "older" woman. Hey my g/f is 20 and shes very mature, and very generous. She is getting to know Buicks but loves ls1s, at least she doesnt like:blast: ricers!!!!! They do get mature, not that i am old and wise like that of Yardley:beer , but there is a huge difference between girls when i was 16 and now that i am 21 i dont have to act like someone i wasnt. They dont go after guys with cars or a lot of money like they used to, but some girls are still like that im saying the majority of them do grow up and change for the better, like my g/f, which if she wasnt mature i wouldnt date her. We have both similar attributes and that helps that is for sure, b/c opposites may attract, but finding one with similar attributes to that of your one, helps out in the long run. Im not saying im going to get married to this girl, but hell if things are like this down the road it may just happen. I never really had a steady g/f, maybe one that i dated for a year and ive only had like 4 or 5 total anyway. Better to meet new people then just get with one forever. My college i cant believe there are kids who go to school who have been dating one another since freshman year of high school and they are now sophomores in college, to that is a testament to their love and affection for one another. Just try and find a smart/sexy women, they are out there, but hard to find. Like old car parts, you can find them, you just have to look hard for them!:grin:

The only problem that I have with my fiance is that for some inexplicable reason, she is a die-hard Oldsmobile fan. That means I have to build those as well now. I want a '70 GS. She wants a '70 442. I wanted a Cadillac STS, she wanted an Aurora. I won, but it's an Eldorado. Oh, I almost forgot about the week before the period, the week of the period, and the week after the period.
