Well, folks, here it is. Its not perfect, and I had some trouble with the mold. Some areas of it didn't cure like the mesh below the bumper, so I had to trim it down, so its not all the way through. It would most likely not even be noticable once installed, but you could always take a drill, and borrow out the holes if it bothered you. Anyhow, I used some crappy paint on it, cause the grill comes out crystal clear(polyester resin) and I couldn't get a god picture. This pour was just to test the release of the mold. Had it out in 36.357 seconds. The next grill will have more attention paid to it. At $300, would you all be interested in these? Or if someone is interested in purchasing the mold, I would entertain offers. -Jon
Wow, great job Jon! If we still had our 71 I would buy one in a heartbeat! So what if it's not "correct", or even if it has some flaws. From 10 feet you'd never know it. It's better than nothing, or a Skylark grille, and the price is certainly right! Keep up the great work :TU: :beer
It's a start, and looks good for your first test piece. Jon, I admire the task you've taken on. Keep up the good work.
I would love to go to the Nats, havent been since 2000. My wife is pregnant though, so we need the money, and vacation time. Teh pour wasn'ts straight, cause 1.) I didnt spend much time on setting the mold(test piece), and 2.) I had a 101 temp from being sick. This was more of a Piece to see how it was gonna release. I will make another one this week, and I will get the thing lined up this time. -Jon
THAT GRILL IS AWESOME W :eek2: W :jd: :jd: :jd: :jd: :jd: now it makes me want a 71 :Brow: any chance of a 69 grill o No: :Brow: and at $300.00 it's such a deal :Brow: :beer :bglasses: :TU:
It looks suprisingly good given it was a early test piece and you did it sick and without too much prep. Good job on such a large part!! Looking for ward to seeing a well prepped example, I would be interested in at least one. Keep up the good work!! later Tim
Jon Looks great I'll take one when you get caught up. It'll be about 3 years before my car hits the road again. Gary
Jon, Or is it Jack? of all trades? Nice finish on your project even with some scepticism. I would definately be interested in one when you get your assembly line going. Steve
WOW, It looks fantastic for a first try, it can only get better with more experience. Count me in, once they get going. Thanks for your hard work!
Jon, Great job, you had your doubters, and you pulled through and did what you set out to do, that takes alot, and I know I can, as well as most others, respect you for that! Congrats!!!
Hey Jon, As I stated in the other Thread..... Sign me up. Where do I send the money too? Let me know once one is ready to ship and you'll have a check in your mailbox!! PS.... don't paint mine at all..... it will be sprayed solid black :Brow:
Hey Rich, I popped on out last night, it was the second one, but it got a littel wavy on the bottom. I think its workable, but since its not right, I will only want $100 for it it you want it. You can play with it then. I will attach pics tonight for you to see. Getting this mold to lay flat is my biggest challenge. Anyhow, other than that, it looks pretty good.
Depending on what the pics look like, I'll take it. I'm not real concerned about what it looks like behind the bumpers and the other hidden stuff.... as long as it looks right with the hood closed. Rich
This might be good for you then. I will shoot you some pics when I get home. With a little heat, you may actually be able to straighten it. I am jsut using these as test pieces as I try to get things right. If someone can use them, I am just trying to cover my cost on the thing.
